"I can't believe how quickly they went down." Trina smiled as she followed behind Spencer, hand in hand, as they walked down the stairs and to their living room after checking on their sleeping kids. "But then again, I guess being dotted and spoiled on by their grandparents and great-grandparents all day took a toll on them." She chuckled. "Hopefully, that means they will sleep most of the night..not only for them but for us." She loved and adored her kids, but she'd be lying if she said she didn't take in every minute of sleep she could muster, especially with a 6 month and a three-year-old.
"Clearly, this is a sign that we need to start piling on grandparent days rather than having separate outings this coming year." Spencer chuckled back. "Remind me why we didn't take either of them up on their offer to watch the kids tonight?" He smirked. Spencer moved them to the couch, his hands staying laced in hers. "While I agree any sleep we all get will be nice, I'm not exactly ready to call it a night just yet. We could have a little party of our own, at least until midnight, of course." His eyes were intensely glued to the beautiful woman in front of him.
Trina shook her head, a grin spread across her lips. "Well, for starters, between my parents, your grandmother, and Kevin, they all looked pretty tired, maybe even more so than the kids." The young woman couldn't help but glance at the staircase. "Plus, it wouldn't have felt right going to bed and waking up without them nestled in their rooms, just like on Christmas." Her attention went back to the handsome man in front of her. She knew exactly what that look he was giving her meant. "Spencer Cassadine, we both know that little 3-year-old mini-me of yours is in no way above sneaking out of his bed and room to explore, especially when we are down here and he's stuck upstairs. Do you really want to leave it to chance that he comes down here?"
A chuckle escaped his lips. They all did look pretty tuckered out, but I'm sure that's the beauty of them being grandparents. After all the fun-filled days, they get to sleep peacefully at night, unlike him and Trina from the past few years. Darn, those kids are messing with this sleep schedule. But even so, he wouldn't want it any other way. Spencer followed suit and shifted his eyes to the stairs when she did. "Yeah. It would have felt strange. But the good news is we are here, as a family, celebrating the new year, even from different parts of the house." He knew that holidays were a lot more precious for them since having kids. After all, their kids would only continue to grow. A fake gasp erupted in the room. "Trina Robinson- Cassadine, you little tease. I was in no way suggesting that." He tried to hold his laughter. "Also, he did seem pretty tired. I don't think we need to worry about his sneaky ways tonight, especially if we stay quiet." The smirk stayed proud on his face.
A content sigh filled the air. "We are, and that's all I could hope for, even if it means us seeing the ball drop." She playfully rolled her eyes. "When are you going to get it through that trick Cassadine skull of yours that I know you all too well, especially those little looks and tones of yours." Trina knew her husband like the back of her hand...just like he knew her. She folded her arms across her chest. "How about this? You and I enjoy our little quiet time, and then once midnight hits, we can celebrate any way you want upstairs." Trina knew with the day the kids had, it wasn't likely their son would try and make his way down, but she wouldn't change it. She pressed a kiss to her lips. "Now, how about you turn the NYE celebration on? I'll go grab us a few snacks and drinks."
"True, but you and I know you still cave to the Cassadine charm." While Spencer joked about how proud he was of the fact, he truthfully hoped that day would never come. "Hmm, I think that's fair." He whispered before kissing her back. A moam mustered from his lips when they parted. He nodded before watching her until she was out of his sight. He never got over how stunning his wife was. Once alone in the living room, he turned in the channel before getting up and dimming the lights before making sure a cozy blanket was handy if Trina needed one.
"Luckily for you, part of the charm is what made me fall in love with you in the first place, among other things." A grin spread across her face at the compromise being settled. As she walked out of the living room, she could feel Spencer's eyes on her. It almost made her want to take a deep breath momentarily once she was in the kitchen. Trina still wasn't over the way he looked at her. It always made her stomach feel butterfly, her heart beat fast, and her cheeks rosy, even with their years of being together and having their 2 kids. Once she grabbed the snacks and drinks, she returned to the living room. "I should have known you were going to set the mood." She joked. "But thank you, this lovely." As she landed back on the couch, she kissed him again, teasing him a bit.
"Sounds about right..everything but my jerk side. I remember very well." When she returned, he pulled her legs across his lap, and his arm rested around her frame. "Well, of course. What kind of a husband would I be if I didn't." He joked back. He breathed in deep with her next kiss. "Yeah, unless you want me to scoop you up right now and take us to our bedroom, you really shouldn't be kissing me like that right now."
"Good point." Trina continued to play along. She couldn't help but give a few more kisses before finally pulling away. "You're right; good things come to those who wait." She beamed, curling herself into Spencer. Her attention turned to the TV as it was getting closer to the countdown. Only a short time before the ball was meant to drop and the new year would start. "So, any thoughts on this new year?" She asked, thinking about it herself.
His mind instantly rushed back to their NYC weekend many years ago. "That was right after you told me you loved me for the first time...even though I said earlier that night." A hint of a smile crept on his face. "Now look at us now, all these years later." He remembered everything about that weekend and how he felt at finally hearing her say those words, almost like it was yesterday. "Nope. I already have everything I want: my family's company, gorgeous wife, and wonderful kids. I couldn't ask for anything else." He grabbed her hand and started fiddling with them. "What about you?"
Trina nodded in agreement. "I still stand by that statement." The whole weekend never fails to cross her mind occasionally, especially when she'd be thinking about their journey so far together. "Look at us now." She repeated softly. "I remember when it felt like this was so far from happening. While the feelings were there, the first kiss changed everything." Finally, she shook her head. "I couldn't ask for anything better myself. You, our kids, and my job are all I ever wanted."
"Me too. It was like the light finally started to shine down in my life after that. Sure, there would be specs when I was around you. But that kiss was the last thing I needed to push past all the darkness and gloom I had felt then." That first kiss changed things for both of them, especially with their already strong feelings. Spencer couldn't help but smile big at her words. "I love you so much, Trina," he said, touching her cheek.
"Just like you did for me during that time too. The kiss came exactly when we both needed it. It's been our time ever since." Her hand rested over hers. "I love you too, Spencer." As the kisses deepened, she heard some light creepin' and what sounded like mini footsteps. Trina pulled away and looked back to the stairs. "Well, look at who it is." she giggled. Trina picked him up and placed him on her lap.
Spencer stopped when he heard the same thing Trina heard. "It's our little man who should be fast asleep in bed by now." he gently poked at his son's stomach. He checked the time, and it was closer to midnight than he had thought. "Clearly, you were antsy to start the new year, huh?" he chuckled. Suddenly, he heard the sound of a baby crying. "And the same can be said for your sister. I'll go get her." He made his way up to the nursery. "Hey there, beautiful girl." he picked her up and returned downstairs. "Well, now it's a party."
"A party ending right after the ball drops, mind you." Trina figured the least they could do was truly spend the end and start the new year as a family. "But it's easily the best party I could ever want to participate in." As the night finally reached the time for the ball to drop. They watched the magic together as a family. It was fun how something like a ball dropping seemingly made both of their kids drift back to sleep shortly after it happened. After their New Year's kiss and everything in the living room was tidy, Trina lifted the little boy into her arms. "Shall we take them back to their rooms?" she whispered.
The night ended perfectly. Spencer was with his wife in their home, and the kids could watch the transition from one year to the next with them, only for them to fall back into slumber. He followed Trina upstairs, gently laying his baby girl back down in her crib. "I love you so much, baby girl." He kissed her before leaving her room and going to his son's. His wife had just finished covering him up and placing a kiss on his head. Spencer followed suit before watching as Trina kissed their daughter goodnight. He grabbed her hands and moved them to their bedroom. "Turns out this New Year's was everything he needed." His arms wrapped around his wife. "Happy New Year, Mrs. Cassadine."
Trina took her little boy back into his bed. Once he was nestled into his bed, she went and kissed her little girl tonight before following her husband into their bedroom. "It was." Her hand rested on this chest. "Happy New Year, Mr. Cassadine. She kissed her deeply before wrapping her arms around his heck. As the kisses got deeper and more passionate, she felt her husband's strong arms lifting her up, placing them in bed, and starting the New Year tangled up in each other embrace.
