Freshman year. September 13th, 2020
Homecoming night, 7:19 pm
"So how did it go?"
"Terrible." Ezreal slumped on his seat "Well, for me- I mean ideally she would've felt the same but I guess there's not much I can do about it, she likes someone else." He turned his head to look at his friend Ekko, who was currently looking at something on his phone. "She said we can still be friends which I appreciate but still, it's gonna take a while for me to get over it..."
"Hey it's not like it's the end of the world," Ekko looked up from his phone to comfort his friend "Lux said you could still be friends right? 'snot like you're losing her."
"Well yeah, but still it's upsetting" Ezreal pouted, puffing his cheeks.
Ekko chuckled, trying to lighten up the mood, "Sssso who DOES she like?" he pried.
"Hey! She made me swear not to tell!"
"Oh come onnnn"
"I'm not telling you, gossipy little shit" He smiled and rolled his eyes, landing them on an unknown figure in a more secluded area of the gymnasium.
"Hey Ekko? Who's that guy?" It was unusual for Ezreal to not recognize a face within their school district, considering he knew almost everyone (it was a little unsettling the amount of connections he had).
Ekko looked in the same direction, "Oh that's that Kayn, he moved here recently from Ionia, we're in the same geometry class" He explained.
"Cool. New guy." Ezreal didn't think twice before leaving the table and moving towards the boy.
Ezreal was like that, friendly and outgoing, when he spotted an unfamiliar face, his first instinct was to befriend them.
While on his way, the blond was so focused on what he'd say to the guy to make him feel as welcome as possible that he failed to notice the big spill right in front of him.
All it took was one wrong step and he was flying towards the floor.
Once Ezreal realized his fuck-up he uttered a 'shit' and braced himself for the impact, however, it never came.
Instead what he felt was a warm embrace and strong (by Ezreal's standards) arms around his waist holding him up. "Shit- are you okay?" The taller boy asked.
"Y-yeah I'm go- OWWWOWW" As soon as Ezreal tries standing on his own, a sharp jolt of pain is sent from his ankle to the rest of his body. "Owww..."
"Do you... need to go to the nurse?" The guy asked. Man he had a nice voice.
"I uh- yeah I- I think I do... ow" He mumbled as Kayn took his right arm and wrapped it around his neck holding onto it, and wrapped his own arm around his waist, helping him up.
They were lucky the closest exit out of the gym was also the closest one to the nurse's office, so it didn't take very long to get there.
Once the nurse attended them, Kayn set Ezreal onto the recovery couch carefully and sat beside him.
With the clear lighting from the room, Ezreal was able to take a proper look at the boy's face, and man was he good looking. He had tanner skin and long black hair tied up in a bun, his left side bang dyed blue, and ears adorned with multiple piercings. It was a nice look on him.
After a while sitting in silence, Ezreal finally spoke.
"S-so uh... Kayn, right?" He gave the boy an awkward smile.
"Yeah... and you are?"
"Name's Ezreal, nice to meet you Kayn." He held out his hand, offering him a handshake. His awkward smile turning into a sweeter one.
Kayn returned the smile "Nice to meet you too, Ezreal", he took the blonde's hand a shook it. His hands felt a bit rough, but Ezreal didn't mind.
The moment was interrupted by a sound coming from Ezreal's back pocket, he took his phone out and opened the notification.
ekko <3 : dude where are you
ekko <3 : we've been looking for you everywhere
me : dw im at the nurse's office
ekko <3 : ?? what happened
ekko <3 : last time i saw you you were on ur way to talk to that one guy
me : yeah i kinda uh .. tripped and fell
me : on him
ekko <3 : LMFAAAOOO ARE U FR
me : SHUT UP i twisted my ankle btw
ekko <3 : dumbass
ekko <3 : r u ok tho
me : yea dw
me : kayn helped me get to the nurse everything's fine
me : except yk the ankle
ekko <3 : looks like u found yourself your knight in shining armor
me : shut up !!
Ezreal rolled his eyes and smiled, turning off his device and turning his attention back to the boy sitting beside him.
"You like Spider-Man?" Kayn asked him noticing the stickers on Ezreal's phone case.
"Hm? Oh yeah I do! He's my favorite superhero," He smiles as he takes off his phone case to show him the inside, also full of Spider-Man stickers. "Do you?"
"Yeah."
"Who's your favorite Spider-Man?"
"Hobie."
"Really? Mine's Gwen!"
"So you have a type then."
"Pardon?" Ezreal looked at him dumbfounded.
"Well you know, Lux... Gwen..."
The blonde almost choked on his own saliva. "Wha- how did you know about Lux??"
"Well you're not exactly subtle." The boy teased.
He blushed, "Yeah well- I- whatever, it's never gonna work anyway, she likes someone else..."
"Bummer."
"Yeah..."
"Jinx?"
"What the- are you psychic?" Ezreal was dumbfounded once again.
Kayn laughed.
Enchanting. Utterly enchanting.
What the hell Ezreal, get a grip.
"No, but what's with blondes and being extremely obvious about their crushes?"
Ezreal pouted, crossed his arms with narrowed eyes and asked, "What are you insinuating?"
Kayn only threw his hands in the air, feigning innocence.
They both laughed and kept talking for a while. At one point Ezreal's friends appeared to check on him, they all came together but left bit by bit as Ezreal insisted they go enjoy their night instead of being stuck in the nurse's office with him. Before they knew it the clock hit 9:00pm, and the party had officially ended.
When Ezreal left the school building with the help of Kayn, his parents were already waiting for him at the main gate, he waved Kayn goodbye and got in the car.
While it did kind of suck that he didn't get to fully enjoy his homecoming, he didn't mind spending all that time in the nurse's office, talking to Kayn.
Ezreal quietly stared out the window, at the various moving buildings before him as he listened to the song on the radio.
I was enchanted to meet you.
In the end, he forgot all about Lux.
