Kukui absentmindedly ran his thumb over the faint scars spanning the bottom of his pecs. It’d been years since he’d had surgery, but sometimes, the dysphoria came back.
His chest felt tight and it was a little hard to breathe sometimes.
And everything just felt wrong .
Ash and Burnet both knew something was up with Kukui when he walked out of the bedroom, wearing a hoodie back from his college days.
“Professor, why are you wearing a hoodie???” Ash asked, bewilderment obvious in his voice. Kukui cleared his throat and smiled weakly.
“Hahaha…just felt like it, y’know?” He scratched his nape. Burnet could tell he had been. The back of his neck was bright red from him scratching at it, a nervous habit.
So that’s what was wrong.
She nudged him.
“Make sure to drink water today, ku’uipo. It’s hot out.” He nodded. He knew that she didn’t feel the need to pry, and honestly? He was grateful for that.
He grabbed his phone and his bag, and waved goodbye as he walked out the door, Ash trailing after him.
