Chapter Text
Dami sat on the edge of her bed, nervously twirling a strand of her dark hair between her fingers. The other members of Dreamcatcher were out for a group activity, and this was the perfect opportunity to share her well-kept secret with JiU, her closest confidante.
Taking a deep breath, Dami knocked on JiU's door. JiU opened it with a smile, but her expression shifted to concern when she saw the unease on Dami's face.
"Dami, what's wrong?" JiU asked, ushering her inside.
Dami hesitated for a moment before finally blurting out, "I have something to tell you, JiU. Something I've been keeping from everyone, even the other members."
JiU's eyes widened with surprise, and she motioned for Dami to sit down. As they settled in, Dami began to reveal her secret – the existence of her daughter, Yujung.
Dami took another deep breath, her gaze focused on a point in the room as she began to unravel the layers of her secret. "JiU, I have a daughter. Yujung. She's five years old."
JiU's eyes widened in surprise, the revelation catching her off guard. "A daughter? Why haven't you mentioned her before?"
Dami's shoulders slumped slightly, and she met JiU's gaze with a mixture of guilt and vulnerability. "Yujung has been living with my parents so that I could focus on being an idol. But with my dad in the hospital now, the situation has become more complicated."
JiU listened attentively, processing the information. "Dami, why didn't you tell us about Yujung earlier? We're like family, and we could have supported you."
Dami's voice trembled with guilt as she apologized for keeping this part of her life hidden. "Yujung... Something bad happened to me. She wasn't planned, but she's my world, JiU. I just didn't want to burden the group or hinder our progress with my personal life."
JiU could sense the sincerity in Dami's words and realized the sacrifices Dami had been making. She understood that every weekend and free day Dami spent away from the group was to be with her daughter.
"Dami, why didn't you tell us sooner?" JiU asked, a mix of emotions crossing her face.
"I was afraid," Dami admitted, tears welling up in her eyes. "I didn't know how everyone would react. I didn't want anyone to think I couldn't handle being an idol and a mother."
Dami pleaded with JiU, "I know this is a lot to take in, and I'm sorry for not telling you sooner. But now, with my dad in the hospital, I need your help. Can Yujung stay with us until he recovers? I promise it won't disrupt our routines, and I'll take full responsibility for her."
JiU looked into Dami's eyes, seeing the vulnerability and desperation. Without hesitation, she responded, "Dami, you don't have to apologize. Family comes first, and we're all here for you. Of course, Yujung can stay with us. We'll make it work, and she'll be welcomed with open arms. We're a family too, after all."
Relief washed over Dami's face as tears of gratitude welled in her eyes. "Thank you, JiU. I knew I could count on you."
JiU reached out and hugged her, assuring her that the Dreamcatcher dorm would now be a home for both Dami and Yujung.
The atmosphere in the room lightened as Dami felt the weight of her secret lifted and replaced by a sense of understanding and support. JiU continued to comfort her, recognizing the challenges Dami had faced alone.
"I can't imagine how difficult it must have been for you, Dami," JiU said, squeezing Dami's hand. "But you don't have to carry this burden alone anymore. We're a team, a family, and we'll find a way to make everything work. Yujung is a part of your life, and by extension, a part of ours now."
Dami nodded gratefully, appreciating JiU's kindness and the acceptance she had received. The two friends spent the afternoon discussing plans for accommodating Yujung in the dorm and ensuring her well-being. JiU assured Dami that the other members would understand and support the decision. Before leaving to pick up Yujung, Dami hesitated near the doorway, turning to JiU with a mix of nervousness and gratitude in her eyes. "JiU, there's one more thing I need to ask you."
JiU, sensing Dami's unease, offered a reassuring smile. "Of course, Dami. What do you need?"
Dami took a deep breath, her hands fidgeting slightly. "I... I was wondering if you could talk to the others for me. Let them know about Yujung. I trust you, JiU, and I know you can explain it better than I can. I just need them to understand why I kept it a secret and that Yujung needs us right now."
JiU nodded understandingly, recognizing the weight of Dami's request. "Dami, you don't have to worry. I'll make sure they understand, and I'll do my best to convey everything you're feeling. Just focus on bringing Yujung back, and we'll take care of the rest."
Dami's eyes softened with gratitude, and she gave JiU a small, appreciative smile. "Thank you, JiU. I owe you big time."
JiU chuckled, "No need to thank me. We're family, and family looks out for each other. Now go get Yujung, and we'll be here when you return."
With a nod, Dami left the dorm, trusting JiU to handle the delicate task of sharing the news with the rest of Dreamcatcher.
JiU gathered the other Dreamcatcher members in the living room. Their expressions turned curious as JiU began to speak, "Hey, everyone, there's something important I need to share with you. Dami has a secret that she's been keeping from us, and it's time we all knew."
A wave of concern swept through the room as the members exchanged puzzled glances. JiU took a deep breath before explaining, "Dami has a daughter named Yujung. She's been living with Dami's parents so that Dami could pursue her career with us. But due to her dad's health issues, Yujung had to come stay in the dorm temporarily."
Yoohyeon's eyes widened, hurt flickering in them, "A daughter? Dami kept something like this from me?"
JiU put a comforting hand on Yoohyeon's shoulder, "I think she was just afraid of how everyone would react. She's on her way to pick up Yujung now. Let's try to understand."
Siyeon, with a thoughtful expression, chimed in, "You know, thinking about it, Dami's caring nature suddenly makes so much sense now."
Gahyeon looked surprised but quickly added, "But why keep it a secret? We're her family too."
JiU nodded, "That's what she was afraid of – judgment and the fear that it might affect the group. But she's in a tough spot now with her dad in the hospital, and Yujung needs a place to stay."
Yoohyeon, still processing the information, sighed, "I wish she trusted us enough to tell us earlier, but if Yujung needs a place, we should be there for them."
Handong, with a smile, said, "I agree. We're a family, right? We'll make it work."
JiU continued, "Dami will be back soon, and we need to show her our support. Yujung will be staying with us for a while, and we're all on board with that, right?"
One by one, the members nodded in agreement. Despite the initial surprise and mixed emotions, they understood the gravity of the situation. As a united front, they would welcome Yujung into their home and provide the support that Dami needed during this challenging time.
JiU glanced at the clock, realizing that Dami would return soon. "Let's get everything ready. We want this to be a warm welcome for both of them."
The members sprang into action, preparing the dorm for Yujung's arrival, their initial shock giving way to a shared determination to make their dorm a true home for Dami and her daughter.
Yoohyeon, putting aside her initial hurt, took charge of arranging a comfortable space for Yujung in the shared living area. She began picking out soft blankets and stuffed animals, determined to create a cozy corner where Yujung could feel at ease.
Siyeon and Gahyeon teamed up in the kitchen, preparing snacks and meals that would suit a child's taste. They chatted animatedly about what Yujung might like, making sure to cater to her preferences.
Handong and SuA joined forces in setting up a designated play area in one of the rooms. While they didn’t have many toys, they gathered some papers and crayons to give Yujung a creative outlet until they had time to spoil her with more goodies.
Throughout the process, the members shared knowing glances and exchanged smiles, a silent acknowledgment of their commitment to supporting Dami and welcoming Yujung into their lives. The initial surprise had transformed into a shared responsibility, and they were determined to make the dorm a true home for their extended family.
As they worked, laughter and warmth filled the air, the atmosphere shifting from anticipation to genuine excitement. Dreamcatcher, known for their unity, were now rallying together for a new, important member of their family.
When everything was ready, the members gathered in the living room, awaiting Dami and Yujung's entrance. The room was adorned with a welcoming atmosphere, and each member wore a smile, ready to embrace the newest addition to their close-knit family.
As Dami returned with Yujung nestled peacefully in her arms, the members gathered around, their faces filled with a mixture of curiosity and warmth. Yoohyeon, taking the lead, guided Dami to the spot she had prepared in the living room for Yujung to sleep.
"Right here, Dami," Yoohyeon whispered, pointing to the soft blankets and pillows arranged on the floor. Dami gently laid Yujung down, making sure she was comfortable, and covered her with a light blanket.
Once Yujung was settled, Dami joined the other members on the couch, ready to answer their questions. The room was filled with a soft, comforting atmosphere as everyone took in the significance of the moment.
Siyeon couldn't help but lean in for a closer look at Yujung, her eyes widening with delight. "Dami, she looks so much like you. It's incredible."
Dami smiled, her eyes fixed on her sleeping daughter. "Yeah, she takes after me, doesn't she? She's my little mini-me."
Gahyeon, unable to contain her excitement, chimed in, "How old is she, Dami?"
Dami, still gazing at Yujung with a mother's love, answered, "Yujung just turned five last month. Time flies, but she's my world."
Yoohyeon, with a soft smile, asked, "How did you manage to keep it a secret for so long, Dami? And why didn't you tell me?"
Dami looked apologetic, "Yoohyeon, I didn't tell anyone because I was scared. Scared of how everyone would react, and I didn't want to burden the group. I should've trusted you all more, especially you, Yoohyeon."
Yoohyeon nodded, her initial hurt replaced with understanding. "We're here for you now, Dami, both you and Yujung."
JiU, sensing the emotional weight of the situation, spoke up, "Dami, we're a family. We'll figure this out together. Yujung is welcome here, and you don't have to face anything alone."
As Yujung peacefully slumbered on the cozy spot prepared by Yoohyeon, the members gathered around Dami, their curiosity bubbling over. Excitement and warmth filled the room as they began firing questions about Yujung, eager to know more about the newest addition to their family.
Siyeon, unable to contain her enthusiasm, asked, "Dami, what's Yujung's favorite animal? It’s got to be a panda, right?"
Dami's face lit up with a fond smile, "She's obsessed with rabbits actually. Ever since she could talk, it's been all about bunnies. Stuffed animals, pictures, you name it."
Handong chuckled, "That's adorable! Does she have a favorite color?"
Dami nodded, "Oh, definitely. It's pink. Anything pink makes her eyes light up. She's convinced it's the most magical color in the world."
Gahyeon, ever the playful one, inquired, "And toys? What's her favorite type of toy?"
Dami laughed, "She's into dolls and action figures. She loves creating stories with them. She likes making up adventures and talking to her toys like they're her best friends."
Yoohyeon, who had taken a particular interest in setting up the sleeping area, asked, "How does she usually sleep? Any special routines?"
Dami thought for a moment, "She has this little plush rabbit she insists on having with her every night. It's like her security blanket. And bedtime stories, of course. I try to read to her every night I’m with her."
JiU, with a smile, added, "Sounds like she's got quite the personality. We'll make sure she feels right at home here."
Dami nodded appreciatively, "Thank you, all of you. I know it's a lot to take in, but your support means the world to me and Yujung."
As the evening progressed, Dami felt a gentle tug at her heart, realizing that Yujung needed the comfort of her own room. Grateful for Yoohyeon's efforts in preparing the makeshift sleeping area, Dami decided it was time to transition Yujung to a more familiar space.
"Dami, is everything okay?" JiU asked, noticing the contemplative look on Dami's face.
"Yeah," Dami replied with a soft smile, "I just think Yujung might be more comfortable if she sleeps in my room with me. She might feel a bit scared waking up in a new place without me nearby."
JiU nodded understandingly, "Of course. We can help you get everything set up in your room."
As the members quietly made their way to Dami's room, Yoohyeon offered, "I'll grab the blankets and pillows from the living room. We want her to be as comfortable as possible."
Together, they carefully transferred Yujung to Dami's room, ensuring she remained undisturbed in her peaceful slumber. Dami tucked her into bed, placing the plush rabbit by her side and giving her a gentle kiss on the forehead.
"Sleep tight, my little bunny," Dami whispered, her heart swelling with love.
The members, respecting the quiet serenity of the moment, tiptoed out of the room. Once outside, they gathered in the living room, sharing understanding glances. Dami joined them shortly after.
Yoohyeon spoke up, "I'm sorry, Dami, for assuming the living room would be a good spot. I didn't think about Yujung feeling scared."
Dami shook her head, grateful for Yoohyeon's effort, "No need to apologize, Yoohyeon. I appreciate everything you did so much already."
JiU added, "We're all learning how to navigate this new chapter together. Dami, if there's anything you need, just let us know. Yujung is a part of our family now, and we want to make her stay as smooth as possible."
Dami smiled, touched by the genuine support of her Dreamcatcher family. "Thank you, JiU. I'm so lucky to have all of you."
As the night settled in, the members retreated to their own rooms, leaving Dami to keep a watchful eye on Yujung. In the quiet moments, Dami reflected on the unexpected turn of events and felt a profound sense of gratitude for the understanding and warmth that surrounded her.
In Dami's room, a soft nightlight cast a gentle glow, creating a comforting atmosphere. Dami sat by the bedside, occasionally brushing a strand of hair from Yujung's face. Feeling the weight of the day slowly fading away, Dami carefully eased herself onto the bed beside Yujung. Yujung stirred slightly, her small hand finding its way to Dami's as if seeking reassurance.
With a tender smile, Dami gently intertwined her fingers with Yujung's, a silent promise of comfort and protection. The room was filled with the soothing sounds of a quiet night, and Dami could feel the rhythmic rise and fall of Yujung's peaceful breaths.
Dami whispered softly, more to herself than to Yujung, "Sleep well, my little bunny. We're surrounded by love, and everything will be okay."
Yujung, nestled close to Dami, shifted slightly, finding a comfortable spot in her mother's embrace. Dami draped a light blanket over both of them, ensuring Yujung felt snug and secure.
In the quiet stillness of the room, Dami closed her eyes, allowing the serenity of the moment to envelop her. The rhythmic sounds of Yujung's breathing became a lullaby, soothing away the remnants of the day's challenges.
