Coby was nervous; well actually nervous was an understatement. His roommate said he was shaking like a chihuahua without a coat in winter. The pink haired boy just gave him a glare before checking his outfit for the upteenth time.
He normally wasn't an overly nervous person. At least not anymore; he had grown a lot since he was a young teenager. A hand ran a hand through his hair to fluff his hair.
All of this; for a date. Though not just any date. Finally! A date with his crush of more years than he’d like to admit. He took a deep breath; clutching the flowers he had gotten a bit tighter to his chest.
Coby made his way to the little quaint cafe that they were meeting at. Of course…he got there exceptionally early. Sneakers rocked into the pavement below him as he waited for his date to arrive.
He wasn't entirely sure how long he had been waiting. It had to be a while though; he could see the staff giving him a look of sympathy. The man was finally beginning to get nervous; like actually nervous.
He knew the other was often late. Probably between having slept in or simply forgetting. He felt a bit of discontent as he sighed. Trying to decide whether or not to leave; his brain is a bit muddled. He was just about to turn on his heels to head back to his car when there was a commotion.
There was a loud slam of a car door and yelling. A couple cars honked their horns. All of a sudden there were thudding footsteps beating against the stone sidewalk before a body crashed into his own. Lanky arms curling around his torso followed by a very distinct giggle.
Coby turned around; keeping the arms around him securely. He knew those arms. The welcoming warmth of the other body now flush against his chest. There was a series of snickers filling the space around them. It gave him reassurance that he hadn’t been abandoned.
“Sorry I’m late! Ace’s car wouldn't start and I was gonna text you but then my phone died!” Luffy chirped at him with a large smile. The smaller looked up at Coby with that same goofy but warming look he carried on his face. He finally pulled away; “I’ve been really excited about our date though!”
That statement alone made Coby blush even harder than he had anytime before. He held Luffy a bit tighter before letting him go. Luffy bounced on his toes excited as he continued to stare at Coby. The pink haired man took Luffy's hand into his own; threading their fingers together. He felt the others give their hands a squeeze before he fumbled a bit.
“Oh I got you these!” Coby said as he held the bouquet of sunflowers towards Luffy. “Oooh! These are pretty!” Luffy beamed as he took them happily. He gave them a sniff with a silly smile on his face. The pair walked into the cafe together; awkwardly trying to get through the door as Luffy refused to let go of Coby’s hand.
They eventually made it in; Luffy all but dragged Coby up to the counter to order. His eyes scanned the menu quickly before looking at his date expectedly. Coby gave a small sigh before nodding knowing exactly what that look meant. The beaming smile on Luffys face made it all worth it even if his wallet was silently screaming at him.
He listened intently as Luffy began to rattle on his insanely long order of almost all the different foods and pastries off the menu. He eventually did begin to fade out and look around the small cafe knowing this was going to take a while. He felt a nudge when the now extremely distressed barista at the register told him his total.
“I already put in your order” Luffy told him as he took the card that Coby held out to him. “I remember your coffee order like the back of my hand! A black iced coffee with a little bit of creamer…and caramel syrup! And I got you some of those little cookie thingies’ you like” the black haired man said as he swung their hands after they headed for a table to sit down.
Coby was impressed that Luffy actually remembered his coffee order because they had only gotten coffee together a handful of times. He sat at a small corner booth; he felt Luffy slide in next to them. Their bodies flushed together; the other mans' warm body heat was a welcoming relief.
He felt a rush of anxiety leave his body in the form of a shiver. He didn’t even know he was holding it in until he heard Luffy’s voice breaking through the comfortable silence. “Are you okay?” Luffy asked as he looked up at Coby. “Are you cold?” he added as he pressed himself a little bit closer.
“Sorry that I made you wait for so long…I wish Sabo and Gramps would let me get a car but they don’t think I’m responsible enough” Luffy said with a pout. He felt bad; it wasn’t like he had meant for things to go awry. Relying on other people to get from place to place sucked but Coby lived over an hour away on the base. He wasn’t about to make his date drive an hour back like four times.
That wasn’t fair of the other. Coby gave him a smile though; “Its’ okay Lu really. I was just worried…” he said, giving his hand a tight squeeze. Luffy smiled back even though it didn’t look like it quite reached his eyes. Coby was about to say something else when another barista came to deliver the first part of their food along with their drinks.
“Let’s not worry about the small stuff” Coby said as he brushed it off. He gave Luffy another large smile before letting go of his hand. “Go ahead and dig in,” he said. That’s all that needed to be said before Luffy began to eat his food happily. Coby chuckled softly; Luffy's love for food and insatiable appetite never ceased to amaze him.
He sipped his coffee with a smile hidden between the mug. He was so focused on watching Luffy. A strong longing look of admiration on his face. That he hardly noticed that Luffy had slowed his eating and was staring at him. Coby blushed once he realized and cleared his throat; which made Luffy snicker.
“Aren’t you gonna eat?” Luffy asked through a mouthful of croissant. Coby was about to object with a statement that his order hadn’t arrived when he noticed a small pile of food in front of him. He blinked a couple times in surprise; Luffy shared food with him. Which was shocking; his jaw dropped a bit. Luffy hated sharing food; he didn’t even share with his brothers.
Coby turned his attention back to Luffy who just smiled and tucked back into his food. The pink haired man lifted up a pastry and took a small bite. It was good but knowing that Luffy had shared it with him made it taste so much better.
Time seemed to drag on slower and slower as each moment passed. Coby treasured every single moment of it. Carrying on a simple conversation with Luffy between every bite of food until all the food was gone or packed away into to-go containers. Neither of them moved from the booth once the table was cleared.
Luffy had gone back to holding Cobys’ hand. His smaller body pressed impossibly close to his own. The heat blazing hot between them; Coby felt Luffy's head fall against his shoulder. He could feel the others steady breathing as they relaxed into each other. A chuckle falling past his lips as Luffys’ soft snores.
Eventually Coby adjusted which seemed to startle Luffy out of his slumber. He blinked a couple times before looking up at Coby with a flushed expression. “I uh sorry…” he whispered. Which made Coby shake his head with a chuckle.
“It’s okay. How about a walk to stretch our legs?” The pink haired man suggested before leaning down pressing a kiss to Luffy's forehead. He froze when he heard the others breathe hitch. Coby felt a surge of panic seize his body before he startled. He felt soft plush lips pressing against his own quickly. Luffy looked at him with wide eyes; lips parted barely as he pulled away.
Coby stumbled over his words for a bit while Luffy looked away biting on his lip. “I don’t like when you frown…so smile” Luffy mumbled as he looked at him from the corner of his eye. His face bright red; very unlikely himself as he fiddled with his fingers until Coby slowly threaded their hands together once more.
“It’s okay…I like it when you smile too. It reminds me of a warm summer day…as cheesy as that sounds” Coby said. He was memorized by the unfamiliar look of his dates’ face but loving it so much at the same time. Luffy gave a brief nod and they sat in a relative comfortable silence for a bit before Luffy noticed the time.
“Oh fuck!” Luffy yelled. He had realized a good amount of hours had already gone by; “I told Ace I’d meet him like an hour ago!” he gasped. Coby looked at him and chuckled; “That is very much like you” he teased. He stood up and pulled Luffy with him; he quickly kissed his cheek again.
Luffy blushed even more; they walked together down the street to where the smaller of the pair was supposed to meet his eldest brother. Coby could see Ace glaring at him from within the car. He ignored it though as he pulled Luffy into a tight embrace. His hands wrapped securely the others waist as he leaned down.
Luffy looked up at him with a smile before their lips pressed together once more. He hummed into the kiss happily as he slid his hands up into Cobys hair. He could hear Ace splutter and yell through the car window but ignored it. Positively melting into the kiss; getting brave enough to poke his tongue out just enough to press against the seam of Cobys lips.
The pink haired man parted his lips just enough for Luffy to slide his tongue inside. The couple lazily made out on the street; definitely getting looks from others but they didn’t care one bit. Lost in their own little word until they finally had to break for air. Luffy was the first to pull away; he panted a small bit as he smiled. “That was nice! You kiss like really good Coby!”
Coby chuckled at that and kissed him again but not deep enough for it to continue. “Okay…as much as I like to keep kissing you…” he looked over at Ace who was practically foaming at the mouth at this point from anger. “Ace looks like he wants to kill me and I don't think you want a dead boyfriend” he said blushing.
“Boyfriend…” Luffy repeated before he giggled a bit. “You’re right! I like you a whole lot better alive…boyfriend” he said before he finally pulled out of the others embrace. He took a couple of steps back towards the car before he stopped. He looked back at Coby with that same large smile that he always carried.
“Bye boyfriend! See you for our next date! I promise no brothers so we can continue kissing!” Luffy snickered, giving a large wave before climbing into Aces’ car. He waved and didn’t stop until the car was far enough away that Coby was just a little dot. He sighed happily and slouched in the car seat. He turned to look at Ace with a smirk.
“Hah I got a boyfriend and you don’t!”
