Work Text:

Crowley still enjoyed barging into the bookshop as though they didn’t live there, and Aziraphale just smiled softly at his husband’s dramatics.

“Hi Angel, I brought snacks!” Crowley said, dropping a small bag on the desk Aziraphale was sitting at, kissing his forehead as he turned towards them. Aziraphale smiled at them again, before turning to the bag of snacks with a little wiggle of excitement.

Crowley carefully removed some of the papers that were covering the desk, before sitting down on it and watching their angel eat.

Aziraphale turned back to them once he’d finished eating, another soft smile gracing his features. They looked at each other for a while, just enjoying the company, before Crowley got distracted by something moving outside and looked away. Aziraphale pressed a small kiss to their cheek, before turning back to the book he was reading.

They sat in silence for about an hour, Crowley having pulled out their phone after a couple minutes, before Aziraphale remembered a question he’d wanted to ask Crowley. “Did you see the date, dearest?”

“Hm?” Crowley looked up from their phone, “Oh yeah, it’s the 31st, right Angel?” Aziraphale nodded, “Exactly, they’ll be setting off fireworks tonight, won’t they?” Crowley smiled slightly at that, “Yeah, I’ve always liked those. Were they one of ours or one of yours?” Aziraphale huffed in amusement, “Neither, dear, the humans came up with that one all on their own.” Crowley smiled, the kind of smile that made their golden eyes shine slightly, the kind of smile that was reserved only for Aziraphale.

“We could watch them on the bookshop’s roof tonight if you wanted, dear.” Crowley nodded, “Yeah sure angel, though I’m not sure we’ll have that great of a view.” Aziraphale smiled a mischievous smile, “I think you’ll find that, quite miraculously, we’ll have a rather perfect view.” Crowley chucked, reaching over to give Aziraphale a quick kiss.

They started setting up on the bookshop’s roof not too long after dark, the roof being quite surprised to find itself having a perfectly comfortable spot for an angel and a demon to lounge, as well as a perfect view of London's fireworks. Aziraphale spread out his favourite tartan blanket, while Crowley picked out their favourite wines, and made both of them a mug of hot cocoa.

They were both sitting on the roof when the fireworks properly started, Crowley leaning their head on Aziraphale’s shoulder, their sunglasses left downstairs, as both of them had their eyes turned towards the sky. “They remind me a bit of the stars, sometimes.” Crowley commented, as the people down in the street below cheered when an especially spectacular firework went off. Aziraphale wasn’t sure if Crowley meant the humans or the fireworks, but he supposed it didn’t matter very much. “Yes, I suppose they do.” He subconsciously started running his hands though Crowley’s hair, smiling when they melted into him even more.

They watched the fireworks together for as long as they went on, clinking their glasses together as the clock struck twelve, and pressing a soft kiss to each other’s lips to celebrate the new year.

And, long after the fireworks had all been set off, and the only light in the sky was the stars, Crowley’s head ended up in Aziraphale’s lap as they pointed out the stars, and told Aziraphale stories about all of them. And Aziraphale smiled as he ran his hands through Crowley’s hair, and they slowly started dozing off.

And an angel and a demon spent their new years together, and if the neighbourhood around them felt a bit warmer that night, then well, nobody would complain.
