In Which God Really Should Have Thought A Lot of Things Through Before Reacting... (Cont.)

Summary:

This story is a continuation (with permission) from the link for the inspiration. Please read that fic first.

Shortly after the Sinnerman has been killed and Chloe Decker has fled the country (much to the annoyance of the relevant authorities as there is an ongoing murder and corruption investigation, and she was engaged to the main perpetrator...), Lucifer is called into the precinct to go over his statement with the FBI again.
Whilst there, he receives a very unexpected visitor, with a VERY unexpected message.
Something is wrong, and God is shocked by how many of his pieces are out of place when he bothers to pay attention again. Can Lucifer figure out what is going on and find Michael before something catastrophic happens?
Everything about Chloe and Pierce is freaking him out, but Lucifer is about to have much bigger issues than a silly little detective who wouldn't recognise the truth if it danced naked in front of her face… (Which, incidentally, the Devil has done. So he knows what he's talking about with that comparison…) New discord server for works from me at ( https://discord.gg/JMH2bmmYEv )

Chapter Text

God felt horrified as he did as Lucifer had requested and looked into why he had rebelled. Finding out that the Host has been suffering for millennia under His travel ban was alarming. And His Lightbringer had seen this but was powerless to do anything as He and His wife were fighting and ignoring the Host. Only after multiple failed attempts to get God to listen, Lucifer had finally felt forced to take action. Even if that meant plotting a coup in order to save his siblings.

Oh, Lucifer… God mourned. Why hadn’t He remembered that Lucifer had always been the wisest and deepest feeling of all of His children? Of course he would’ve done whatever was necessary to protect his siblings. Moreover it was disturbing to Him that Lucifer hadn’t felt like he could tell Him why he’d truly started the rebellion, even in the face of what he thought was permanent banishment.

Well, He supposed there was only one place to get that answer. He needed to speak to Lucifer. Somehow in the midst of everything else going on, He hadn’t been able to have a full conversation with Lucifer on the truth of his ‘banishment’. Lucifer deserved to know that once they discovered what had happened to Michael, he was welcome home.

Honestly, a part of God wanted to bring Lucifer home now, to fix their damaged relationship, but that wouldn’t be safe, especially not for Michael. Lucifer would understand, He knew that.

He appeared in front of Lucifer who was looking at drawings. “Lucifer.”

Lucifer stood, turning toward Him. “Father. Do you have news?”

“No, not yet.” God’s eyes looked over the papers. Enochian magic was scribbled on it. “We are very overdue on a conversation though.”

Lucifer looked confused. “Okay?”

“First of all, since I keep getting sidetracked from telling you, your banishment as it were wasn’t meant to be permanent. We needed space, yes, and I was beyond frustrated at you, but when I told you to leave, I only meant until we had both cooled off.” God looked at him, pained. And it didn’t help the similar look reflected back on Lucifer’s face. “Hell was always going to be yours, it wasn’t meant to be a punishment. The timing just was bad.”

“You… I can come back?” Lucifer looked shocked.

After we figure out what happened to Michael and who is behind it.” God clarified. “It’s not even safe for Me to go sniffing around back in the Silver City. If you suddenly show up, it’ll raise alarm bells.”

Lucifer grimaced. God made a decent point. It would alert everyone in the Silver City that something was going on if he just suddenly started showing up. Oh well, he wasn’t in a rush to return, anyway. It felt… good to know that he could, though. It soothed something within him. “I… appreciate the clarification. Was that all?”

“I looked into your rebellion, like you asked.” God winced. “Lucifer, why didn’t you tell me that you were suffering? That the Host was suffering?”

“I tried.” Lucifer felt a rush of irritation. “On multiple occasions. You refused to talk to anyone.”

Right. That was true. “Even during our final confrontation?” God asked sadly.

“I was slightly more concerned about being smote out of existence for attempting a coup against you at that exact moment.” Lucifer growled. “You were furious. Reason didn’t seem like it was going to matter to you in that moment.”

God shook His head. His poor children. “Well, I know now. After we find Michael… I would very much like to try to work on our relationship, Lucifer.”

Lucifer frowned, confusion creasing his face. “Fine. We can… talk about it later.”
