The Last of Us, for Now

Summary:

After his break up with Langa, Reki sets afoot on a new chapter of getting his life together.

It was for the better anyway. Probably.

Notes:

This is heavily inspired by Deadplate. Specifically, the break up between Rody and Manon. Also, I actually don't know where this fanfic's gonna be headed. I just wrote this for fun.

Still, I appreciate that you're picking up this work! :)

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter Text

“We need to break up.”

“What?”

Reki’s eyes bulged in horror as he heard it being said from the guy in front of him. Strips of blue hair curtained his face that etched in such anguish. Reki could see him biting his own lips as if those words brought burden to him too.

Although, it was more than a burden to Reki. He felt his world just collapsed together with his colors, making him pale.

Langa kept eerily quiet as if hinting that he said what he said. Reki, on the other hand, was still in disbelief. He inched closer as if afraid Langa would walk away any minute now. The corners of his mouth quivered as he opened it to speak, “Why? I mean we were going well too—”

Langa moved away from Reki’s attempt to hold his arm. “No, Reki. We weren’t.”

The redhead went numb. His arms dropped to his sides as he felt his spirit fall to the cold pavement. The figure in front of him started to blur together from the dark streets behind him.

Langa was taken aback as Reki scoffed in self pity when tears fell down to his chin.

Wiping away streams, Reki mustered a shaky voice. “Sorry. I’m sorry. I’m just not in a great place right now, okay? Please give me one more day I-I’ll make it up to you. We can go to the beach. They said there’d be great weather tomorrow—”

“Reki. Stop.” Langa winced. He did not like how the harsh tone bent his words.

He raised his hands to prompt him to listen. “That’s the point, Reki. You don’t even think for yourself anymore. This does not make our relationship any better. Please, I love you too but you need to focus on yourself.”

His head continue to hung low, making Langa worried. He took a few steps closer enough to put a hand on his shoulder. Yet at the moment he touched Reki, he flinched. His blue eyes then met his piercing brown’s that burned with anger.

Reki gritted his teeth as fury took over him. “Are you pitying me?” He hissed, brows furrowed so agitatedly.

“You’re not getting my point, Reki,” Langa argued. He took a tight grip of his hand, and with pleading eyes he continued, “I’m worried. I’m worried that you’re neglecting yourself too much for us. For me.”

All the anger that filled him drained down. Reki hesitated. He let the sight of Langa’s distraught expression sink in before he threw his arms to him.

“I’m sorry. I love you.”

“I love you too.”

But they couldn’t bury themselves to each other’s warmth forever, especially when it suffocated them. They had to let go.

Langa held Reki’s hands one more time. “It’s not your fault, Reki. We just need time.”

“I’ll wait for you,” Reki blurted. A hint of fear carried behind those words and Langa didn’t miss it.

“I’ll wait for you too.”

They pulled each other to one last soft kiss before they seperate.
