Work Text:
The house lights went down and James heard the crowd start chanting “MBD! MBD!” Eve grinned as she slung her bass guitar on. Alec was already sauntering up the stage ramp, twirling a pair of glowing drumsticks that broke the chant up into a roar.
“He’ll be here,” Eve shouted reassuringly into his ear.
James nodded and dragged his fingers through his hair restlessly. Alec had started a pounding beat that had Eve dancing up the ramp.
The backstage door opened and he turned to meet Q’s glare.
“I’m sorry,” James said. “I was wrong.”
“And stupid.”
“And stupid.” He felt a spike of relief as Q drifted closer. “Can I make it up to you?”
“You’d better, or you’ll be out a keyboardist.”
James pulled him in for a kiss. “Better than out the love of my life.”
“That’s still for discussion.” But Q smiled as they went onstage.
