Chapter Text
The first day of school. A day that has always been dreaded by Mika in the past five years. He hasn't stayed at the same school for over a year since his father invented a new drug that had to be introduced to the entire world. Mika had basically lived in every major city in the US, as well as some cities in other countries such as Tokyo and Berlin. Some would say that Mika's so lucky to be able to travel the ways he has, but honestly not having a permanent home isn't as fun as it seems. Switching schools all the time makes it difficult to form friendships or to get comfortable learning in a certain way. He's always the kid the class admires at first, but then is forgotten once the new kid mystery magic wears off.
Now that his father's drug is helping millions and being sold at drug stores around the world, his family decided to move back to his hometown to live the rest of their lives comfortably and to allow Mika to have the high school life he deserves. Mika had his doubts though. He wouldn't be surprised if his parents decided to up and move again. Even though Mika wasn't expecting to stay, he was happy to be back in his hometown.
This town is was where he was born and where the orphanage he had grown up in was located. Mika's biological parents left him at the tender age of five. Old enough for him to remember them and their abuse, but young enough that he was able to move on to a happier life. He lived in the orphanage until he was eleven when his new parents came and adopted him. Mika is happy to be living with his current parents and he loved them a ton, but life in the orphanage was not all that bad and he misses it. The children of the orphanage were like a family to him. Many of the younger kids looked up to him as he cared for them and the older kids were great friends and role models that he cherished as well. He remembers them all and constantly thinks of how they're all doing now. Though one person he thinks of the most is Yuu.
Yuu was the closest friend Mika had while he was living at the orphanage. They were inseparable. Yuu was always at Mika's side and was there for him in the good and bad times throughout his young life. He missed them terribly and would think about him constantly throughout the years. They had promised one another that they would meet again when they got adopted. Mika was the first to go and promised Yuu they would meet up again. He had wanted to try writing letters to Yuu to stay in touch, but with the constant movement of his family and the fact that Yuu had gotten adopted shortly after he had it had proven to be very difficult.
He would definitely try to seek out Yuu while he was in town, but what was on his mind right now was getting through the first day of school as the new kid beginning in an already started school year. It was October, meaning that school had already been going on for over a month now. It's also sophomore year, meaning most people have already made their cliques and best buds. Mika prepared to either stick out more than usual or not be noticed by anyone.
Mika groaned as he got out of bed that morning to get ready for his eventful day. He got dressed, had breakfast with his mom and dad, and then proceeded to where he was told the bus would be picking him up. There wasn't anyone besides himself as the stop and the bus ride to school was noisy, but no one really spoke to him besides the bus driver who he had to give some permission forms too.
Once at school, he was instructed to head to the main office to turn in more forms and to retrieve his schedule. Glancing over his schedule, he saw his first class was English II, which wasn't all that bad since English was his favorite subject. He felt English would be a nice way to start the day. A lady who worked at the front office led him to the classroom where the teacher was already waiting outside for him.
"Hey there. You must be the new student. Mikaela right? I'm Mrs. Hanayori. The plan is that I'll bring you into the class and have you introduce yourself, show you your seat, and then start the lesson. I've left a textbook and the required reading on your desk. Also, feel free to ask me questions throughout the lesson when you need to. Sound good to you?"
Mika nodded as he soaked in the information. Mika hated introducing himself, but at least it was something he had perfected in the past several years.
Mrs. Hanayori opened the door and they walked into the quiet classroom that contained many students engulfed in their books and others who had obviously spent the time doing other things.
"Attention class," Mrs. Hanayori exclaimed as she tapped a ruler on her desk. "Today we are welcoming a new student. He's come from a high school quite a ways away so please be kind to him and help him feel warmly welcomed to our school."
Mrs. Hanayori motioned towards Mika for him to start his introduction. "Hello. My name is Mi-"
"Mika!?!?"
Mika looked up to see who interrupted him. His eyes widened when they fell upon a mop of messy black hair on a boy who looked an awful lot like Yuu. It looks like Mika's search for his childhood friend has unexpectedly ended.
