Work Text:
Minjeong finds herself awakened, blinking groggily into the darkness of her room, waiting for her brain to wake up and tell her why she’s been so rudely awakened from her slumber in the middle of the night.
Oh.
Of course, she’s hungry. At such an ungodly hour, as always.
She rolls over onto her side and buries her face in the pillow, closing her eyes again and willing the pangs away.
The pangs continue, and they seem to be getting louder.
Despite her best efforts to ignore her stomach and resume her sleep, nothing works.
She really doesn’t want to get up to look for food. It's cold outside and her bed is warm and comfortable, and she might wake the members, who are most likely asleep after the New Year’s party they had earlier, complete with mini fireworks, alcohol, and a cake for her birthday.
I am not getting up, she tells herself firmly, but a sudden loud rumble, sharper than anything she’s felt tonight, slices through her and she almost gasps at the intensity. Her resolve crumbles immediately; she’s suddenly worried she’ll die of starvation if she doesn’t move fast.
Okay, fine. I’ll just go get some water, maybe that will help.
She gets out of bed. It's not as cold as she expected, but still an unwelcome change. She cautiously cracks her door opem and pauses to listen. All is quiet as expected. Leaving her door open to minimize the noise, she pads silently down the hallway.
(She winces as she accidentally steps right onto a creaky patch on the floor, but the sound is minimal, hopefully, and doesn’t wake anyone up.)
Once in the kitchen, she opens the fridge door out of habit before remembering her pledge to only drink water, but that’s thrown out the window when a shiny package on the fridge’s top shelf catches her eye. Tucked in the corner behind cans of instant coffee and a clingfilm-wrapped bowl of leftovers, Minjeong’s sure that hasn't been there before. And with her habit of opening the fridge to look for snacks every ten minutes, she’s surprised she hasn’t noticed this mysterious box earlier.
Curious, she reaches into the fridge and pulls it out, the shiny foil catching the light. And she almost gasps out loud in joy when she sees what it is.
Chocolate! And her favorite brand too, the expensive kind she’s almost never able to find in stores.
“How’d you know I was craving this?” she whispers to the fridge, before realizing that’s a stupid thing to say. But oh well. Nobody’s around to hear it and make fun of her anyway.
Leaving the fridge door open for the light, she sits down on the floor in front of it and rips open the foil protecting the box.
It’s beautiful. Neat pieces of chocolate nestled in colorful paper, cradled protectively by the plastic tray. Too bad there are only a few pieces.
Minjeong only means to eat one piece, truly. But it tastes even better than she remembers, and the chocolate looks so tempting in the light from the fridge… Before she knows it, she’s devoured four of the five pieces.
The last piece of chocolate sits in the middle of the plastic tray, looking so sad and lonely after its brethen have been gobbled down mercilessly. To Minjeong, it seems like the empty spaces where the chocolates used to sit are glaring at her. Shame on you, they could be saying.
I might as well eat the last one. Right?
Her hand reaches out and plucks the last surviving chocolate from the tray, and it’s only just disappeared into her mouth when a shadow falls over her.
Minjeong would have screamed, really, despite it being the middle of the night, but the chocolate stoppers her mouth, so the only noise she makes is a muffled mmpphf! as she falls backwards in shock.
The shadow moves into the light, revealing itself to be… Jimin?
Too late, Minjeong realizes how bad this looks. The chocolate probably belonged to one of the members, and by the way Jimin’s looking at her… she’s found the owner.
“S-sorry-! I’m… I was just-“ she mumbles around the mouthful, backing away from the empty tray on the floor.
But when Jimin speaks, she doesn’t sound mad, only curious.
“How’d you know about those?”
“…Huh?” is all Minjeong can utter.
“I tried so hard to hide those from you. How’d you find them?” Suddenly Jimin snorts a laugh. “You love them so much, they woke you up in the middle of the night and led you to the fridge?”
Minjeong giggles. "No, it wasn’t like that. It was totally by accident. I… well, I was hungry, okay?”
Jimin looks at her fondly. "You're always hungry." She plops down on the floor cross-legged. "C'mere," she says, and Minjeong doesn't miss a beat, shifting eagerly onto her lap.
Jimin is warm, a contrast from the cool kitchen tiles, and she smells soft and sleepy, familiar and comforting. The scent of her. Minjeong likes it.
She nuzzles into Jimin's shoulder. "Sorry for eating your chocolate... I'll buy you some the next time I can find them."
Jimin shakes her head. Her hair brushes Minjeong's cheek. "No, don’t be. They were meant for you anyway. But you sniffed out my birthday present before I could give it to you… shocker,” she finishes wryly.
“Wait, my birthday present? I thought you'd already…” Minjeong trails off, thinking of the necklace her members had presented her with over the cake last night.
“That was our group gift, but I wanted to give these to you as well, in private," Jimin explains. "But I didn't get the chance to." She pauses to give a huge yawn.
"Are you tired? Go back to bed, I'll clean up."
"M'fine," Jimin objects, her hand sliding around Minjeong and pulling her closer. She buries her nose in Minjeong's hair, breathing in deeply.
Minjeong doesn't move, and they shift into a comfortable silence accompanied only by the low hum of the fridge.
Jimin suddenly giggles. "Imagine if Yizhuo or Aeri came out right now and saw us like this."
"You'd like that, wouldn't you? You're hoping they'll find out," Minjeong accuses playfully.
"And so what if I do?" Jimin retorts back, her hand around Minjeong's waist tightening protectively.
"Jagi relax. The whole world probably knows by now, with the way you act around me. Shameless," she teases.
"Mmm," Jimin hums into her hair, seeming pleased with the word.
But then she shifts, almost sliding Minjeong off her lap and causing the younger to whine involuntarily. (Despite having just called Jimin shameless herself, of course.)
"C'mon, baby. We can't sit here all night, we'll freeze to death," and Minjeong has to admit she has a point. She slides off Jimin's warm lap, grumbling half-heartedly.
“Hey…” she looks up at the sound of Jimin’s voice, suddenly soft.
“You have chocolate on your face.”
Then Jimin’s leaning closer, eyes looking deep into her own. The fridge light accentuates her features, drawing them out strikingly. She somehow looks even more gorgeous than usual. Minjeong doesn’t even have time to complete a coherent thought before their lips meet in a soft kiss.
It's not their first time, far from it, but she doesn't think she'll ever get used to Jimin's kisses. It takes her breath away, every time without fail. She would gladly succumb to lack of oxygen if it meant she could stay this way.
Her eyes slide shut involuntarily as Jimin’s tongue swipes gently against her lip, presumably cleaning off the chocolate.
When they break apart, Minjeong finds herself held in place by Jimin’s hand against her waist. She makes no attempt to break free.
“You taste like chocolate,” Jimin breathes against her lips, warm breath ghosting Minjeong’s skin.
She stares into Jimin's soft eyes. She feels like she could drown in them. "You’re sweeter."
