Work Text:

The sun was bright in the sky, and it always made him need to close his eyes. His steps were a bit wobbly, still not used to walking for long– his mom was by his side immediately, helping him and his brothers as they walked through the fields.

Something important was going to happen that day, something about a ceremony… it was still a new concept for him, so all he did was go along, not wanting to upset his mom. She would get angry if he slowed down!

His siblings didn’t have trouble with the sun, and that was why his mom was so attentive with him– it was a bit annoying, but well. She really loved him, and he loved her with all of his heart, feeling happy as fresh grass tickled his legs with every step.

But soon his nose caught on a new scent, a new person approaching him– someone he didn’t know yet.

“Hi doggy! I’m Kiba!” the stranger announced to him, perhaps a little boy. He only knew about Tsume, who always made sure to give him lots of treats as she took care of him– Akamaru could tell she was nearby.

“Son, I think he could be your partner,” Tsume announced, approaching the two and petting the dog’s head, who barked with excitement in return. “His name is Akamaru. He’s a really fierce pup, just like you!”

Akamaru felt himself being picked up in the air with no warning, but he wasn’t afraid– Tsume and his mom would protect him if this ‘Kiba’ was an actual threat, after all! Though, the dog really needed to use a bush…

“I’ll take care of you, Akamaru! We’re friends now!” the boy said with joy in his tone, gently moving him up and down while chuckling– Akamaru couldn’t hold it anymore and peed on his new friend, who gagged. “Ew, that was disgusting… But it’s fine! C’mon, let’s play a bit!”

His hearing and nose helped the dog move across the world without using his eyes much, but still he opened them, wanting to know how Kiba looked– he was his human now. And slowly yet surely, his walking became good enough to run after his new friend, and after the branch he carelessly threw around them.
