New’s Years was always one of Luz’s favorite holidays, next to Halloween. She liked Halloween better, if she was honest, but New Year’s was a close second. Getting to stay up to midnight, the general excitement and anticipation for the new year, drinking grape juice in a wine glass. And it was even better now that she had real friends who invited her to parties. She usually didn’t have much time to party, rebuilding the Boiling Isles, and all. But New Year’s was special. Gus was having a little gathering at his apartment, and Amity was there, along with Willow and Hunter.
The night was calm. A lot of reminiscing, some dancing, snacks, the New Year’s channel. The nervous, excited tension in the room built higher and higher as the hours passed and got closer to midnight. They were watching the clock, only 30 seconds left.
“30…29…28…27” Everyone counted in unison. Willow and Hunter clung to eachother as they shouted numbers. Amity leaned her head on Luz’s shoulder gently, quiet and letting the moment pass by her.
Gus sat on the floor, chanting along. “3…2…1! HAPPY NEW YEARS!!”
Amity caressed Luz’s cheek and brought her closer, lips parting slightly as they met hers. She tasted like cherries, her lips soft and moist. Luz slipped in her tounge, suprised, yet happy at the kiss. It lasted for a while, minutes. But Amity wanted it to last forever.
