Work Text:

Sweetie Belle yawned, all curled up in the warmth of her blanket on the couch in her sister's boutique. Fire works going off could be heard in the distance, the young filly blinking slowly while she listened out for the sounds. It had past midnight, the new year having gotten it's fresh start. She wanted to participate in this year's celebration, but couldn't due to the fact that she had gotten the flu shortly before the previous year had ended. With a disappointed expression, she wrapped arms around her pillow and hugged it tight.

Where's Rarity? She'd ponder before remembering what Rarity told her before going downstairs to work on a commission for a client. 'Remember, just ring the little bell if you need me. I'll drop whatever it is just for you!' echoed her sister's voice in Sweetie's ears.

With a small head turn, Sweetie turned her gaze over; staring at the fancy table stand with flower decal in front of her. On the table lay a bell, one of which Sweetie had yet to use. Truth be told, she didn’t want to use this thing. What choice did she have though?

Her older sister stood in the other room of the boutique, a bit bummed that she couldn't go out and party the night away with her friends. Even so, her sister needed her right now... and what kind of sister would she be if she left Sweetie Belle all alone on New Years of all things? There was a part of her that was glad to be spending time with her on this day, however; even if it was just her taking care of the other.

Rrrring, rrrrring!

"I'll be there in a moment, Sweetie Belle!" Rarity would call out, reassuring her little sister. Using magic, she prepared the filly a bowl of soup while gathering items for what would be suitable in this situation; medicine, spoons, blankets, books, etc. The fashionista gathered these things swiftly, each of them levitating in the air while she walked to the room her sister was in. "Sweetie Belle, I'm heeeere~!" she'd say in a sing-song tone of voice, hoping to get some sort of positive reaction from her sister.

Sweetie stared for a moment, looking more annoyed than anything. A groan as she spoke, "Can you keep it down...? My head hurts..."

Rarity frowned as a worried expression formed on her face, "Oh. Um... right. My apologies, Darling." This was worse than Rarity thought. Normally her sister was so chipper, so happy... the poor dear.

"What's that?" Asked the younger, taking a glance at all the items as she adjusted herself all the while still laying down on the couch to get a better view.

"Your sick night and your sick day items, of course! I, your big sister, am taking care of you! I promised you that, did I not?"

"...I guess." Sweetie would respond, a nasty cough following after.

Frowning, a hoof was brought to Sweetie's forehead, checking to see if she had a fever. The filly was burning up. "Oh, my poor baby sister... don't you worry, your big sister Rarity is here to aid you! We're going to have a good New Years Day! This, I promise you!"

A blank stare met Rarity's gaze, but then a weak smile followed. "Thank you, Rarity... I love you."

"And I love you!"

The entire time, Rarity did as she promised. She spent time giving Sweetie her medicine, soups, blankets, etc. While it wasn't the most ideal way to celebrate New Years, Rarity made sure to make it somewhat fun for her sister by giving her coloring pages to color in, drawing pages, and many other things; things that wouldn't exhaust her but also let her be able to rest while not being bored.

The fireworks she bought for this specific day would have to wait until Sweetie wasn't sick in general anymore, Rarity made sure to save them for that.

Enough time had passed. Crayons, coloring pages, toys, etc. lay on the floor as Sweetie lay still on that couch once more. Soft sounds of snoozing could be heard from her.

With a smile, Rarity re-wrapped the blanket over her sister and began to clean the mess made up. "Good night, Sweetie Belle... Happy New Year... I promise, we'll make up for the missed events today."

Notes:

Meant to have this out on New Years Day, but suffered writer's block, haha. I hope you like it, it's my first MLP fic. ^^;
