Chapter Text
“We aren’t dating.” Logan said. Patton rolled his eyes.
“I know that, I’m just saying…” He trailed off and made vague gestures with his hands. “You know.”
“I don’t.” Patton rolled his eyes again. He didn’t quite understand why Patton continued pushing this idea, even more as of recent. Perhaps it had to do with his own romantic dalliances. Though it could be something else entirely. Logan knew he didn’t have a good sense for emotions, intentions, and the like; so it wouldn’t surprise him.
Just as Patton was about to say something else, Logan hoped it would be a different subject, his phone rang. It read ‘ His Royal Highness ’.
“Ah.” Logan felt the phone buzz in his hand. “Speak of the prince and he shall appear.”
“You saying stuff like that is why-”
“Hey Roman.” Logan said, putting the phone on speaker as he stared directly into Patton’s eyes.
“Hey so the line at Veeves is really long so I will definitely not be back before we have to leave.” Logan heard some shuffling and wind through the phone. “So should I just meet you guys there? The walk isn’t that far.”
“How long is the line?”
“It's pouring out the door. I don’t know what kind of menu change or sale is going on but it is way busier than normal.”
“Hm.” Logan looked to Patton who simply shrugged. “Well, there is no definite time we have to be there, correct?”
“Technically yes but I know Patton wanted to get there before it got too dark. Even though I said I highly doubt it's going to get dark so quickly, you know how he is.” Logan looked at Patton again with a bit of a grin, Patton stared at the phone disapprovingly. “I’m fine with walking.”
“But your hands will be full.”
“I don’t mind.”
“Can’t Remus just pick you up after he drops us off?” Patton said, leaning towards the phone.
“...You didn’t say I was on speaker.”
“I apologize.” Logan said, knowing Roman could hear Patton giggling.
“Re-” Roman chuckled. “Remus has this like office hour thing with a teacher.”
“Ah.”
“Yeah.”
“Well, I suppose we can get started without you.”
“Wait- wait!” Patton interjected, “Are you sure?”
“Yeah don’t worry, seriously.” Patton didn’t seem satisfied but at this point in any back and forth with Roman there wasn’t much they could say to convince him. “Oh, one more thing…” He paused.
“Yes?”
“Um. Can you remind me what Patton’s drink order is?” Patton loudly gasped.
“A VANILLA LATTE WITH WHIPPED CREAM!” He yelled.
“Ok ok! Sorry!” Logan could hear that he was smiling.
“Extra chocolate!”
“Right, ok.” Logan assumed that since Roman forgot Patton's order, he most likely forgot about his too.
“Do you-”
“Caramel mocha, no whip, extra caramel drizzle, and chocolate shavings on top.” Patton chuckled and shook his head.
“Ah.” Logan assumed wrong.
“Don’t forget our sandwiches!”
“I won’t.” He said, then promptly hung up.
“Welp. I’ll call Remus to make sure he’s on the way I guess.” Patton stood up. “Can you grab our bags?” Logan nodded and started looking through Patton's closet. “Oh and I can’t find my notebook- it's dark blue with penguin stickers on it.” He nodded again as he gathered their things and placed them on the bed.
As Patton talked to Remus over the phone, pacing back and forth in the hallway, Logan continued to search for the notebook. Looking under the bed he didn’t find it however he did find his glasses case Patton mentioned last week he was looking for, so he put that on his side table and the search continued. He heard Patton laughing on the phone, mentioning Logan’s name but he couldn’t decipher exactly what he was saying. Logan looked near Patton's bean bag, noticing a small tear on the seam. He was about to check in his desk when he nearly slipped on a lump in the carpet. He looked beneath it and found the notebook. He was debating with himself how it got there when Remus opened the door.
“Ay tie-boy.” Logan was not currently wearing a tie.
“Hi.” He got up and looked through the neatly laid out grid of items, double-checking to make sure they wouldn’t forget anything. Remus hovered over his shoulder, looking down at their bags.
“Ya missing anything?”
“Uh.” Logan realized he lost track of the list in his head. “Give me a second.” Remus started looking around Patton’s room, admiring his posters and photos hung up.
“Heh, that you Specs?” Logan turned to see he was pointing at an old Polaroid Patton had taken of the two of them when they saw the Barbie movie in theatres, Patton had dressed in all pink, while Logan just wore a pink necktie and matching frames for his glasses.
“Yes.” He said. “Before you make some kind of joke it was Patton’s idea and he got me the tie.”
“Oh no no-” Remus stammered and walked a bit in place. “I was gonna say you look snazzy as fuck.” He then imitated Logan pushing his glasses up the bridge of his nose. “Do’ya still have those glasses?”
“No, my prescription needed to be changed so I decided to try a different style. More formal.” Logan shook his head. “Hexagonal glasses, what was I thinking?” He muttered, and after realizing he said that loud enough for Remus to hear he cleared his throat and continued. “Well. My mother may still have them somewhere but I can’t wear them anymore.”
Remus was still looking through the photos when Patton burst through the door.
“I can’t find it!” He groaned.
“If you are referring to the notebook I found it.” Patton gasped and looked through the first few pages of it, almost as if he wasn’t sure if it was the same notebook with penguin stickers on it.
“Awesome!” He beamed. “Do we have everything?”
“Yes.”
“Cool, hand me things.” Remus put his arms out, Logan didn’t immediately know what he was talking about but when Patton started putting Remus’s arms through the loops of the bags he understood and joined in. Logan tried carefully to not accidentally touch Remus as he was doing this, they did come in contact a few times but Logan tried to ignore it. Patton threw a backpack on and handed the last bag to Logan.
“Excited!” Patton said in a sing-songy voice. He led them to Remus’s rusted car parked outside. Logan opened the trunk, then remembered that it could not stay up by itself so he had to hold it up while Remus dumped everything in. Logan tried to ignore how close Remus was to him. Once everything was secure Logan closed the trunk. Correction, Logan tried to close the trunk. It didn’t click shut, Logan tried once more but it again didn’t work. He glanced at Remus. He got the signal and slammed the trunk closed, finally staying shut.
“CH.” He saluted at Logan and then lightly pushed both of them by the head, Logan pushed down the urge to grin. “Autobots, let’s roll out!”
The drive wasn’t long. For once there wasn’t a lot of conversation, which Logan appreciated. He loved to stare out the window and let himself think, or stop thinking. This time he wasn’t thinking, just letting his mind wander and zone out until they arrived. Noticing the leaf piles on the passing sidewalk and the birds sitting on the electric wires. Seeing the car blinker in front of them turn on and off, the little decorative squid hanging from the rear-view mirror hitting the windshield, the couple outside walking hand in hand. Remus tapping his fingers on the steering wheel and Patton jotting down ideas in his notebook, even now and then chewing the pen he was holding.
Logan made a mental note not to borrow Patton’s thinking pen.
