"Come on, Junpei...You can do it..."
He nervously looked at his clock on the wall and back to his smartphone.
The New Year's Party was in about an hour.
Junpei kept on grabbing something small inside his jacket pocket. His Boyfriend Nero would pick him up in 30 Minutes.
His thoughts were giving him a headache as he paced around his apartment.
Until Nero showed up.
"Hey, ready?" the blue-haired one, Nero asked.
"Yeah, Let's go!"
After kissing Nero on his cheek both made their way to the rooftop, trying to act like they were just best friends.
Upon arriving at the party, they were immediately greeted by Hiromi, Matsui, Hori, and Muto.
"Hey! Glad you came! Let's all have a drink! The new year will be here in 2 hours!" Hori exclaimed cheerfully.
"Two hours...Then it's my chance..." Junpei looked up and stared at the sky.
"Hey, Junpei...You Okay?" Muto questioned him.
Junpei immediately snapped back to reality and pretended that nothing was wrong.
He moved his hand into his jacket pocket and fumbled with the small object nervously.
It went on for quite some time.
On the rooftop, there was a lot of dancing and drinking.
"11:52...11:52...still 11:52...now 11:53..."
Junpei kept staring at his phone, one of his legs twitching.
"Junpei...Everything's okay? You seem nervous," asked Nero as he carefully warped his hands around Junpei's arm, while scooting closer to hide the gesture.
"Oh yeah. Everything's alright. No worries! I'm just excited for the new year! Do you think there will be a lot of fireworks?"
Junpei tried to change the topic, not wanting to surprise his secret boyfriend too early.
"Guys come on! It's only five minutes before the new year! Let's gather at the center!" Hiromi announced as all agreed and stood up from their tables.
"Finally... almost..." Junpei thought as he suddenly pulled Nero past everyone to the highest ground behind everyone.
"This way we will have a better... uh.. view!" Junpei managed to stutter as he nervously fumbled inside his pocket.
"uh...Okay!" Nero could tell that something was bothering him but he decided not to question it.
"Everyone!"
"10!"
It was time for him...
"9!"
Slowly, Junpei took out the small black box he had hidden inside his jacket pocket.
"8!"
"7!"
"Hey...Nero...There is something I have for you..."
As they both looked at each other, Nero's smile faded and he had a curious expression on his face.
"6!"
"5!"
"My question is..." Junpei slowly revealed the small box to his boyfriend.
"4!"
"3!"
"Nero..Do you want to...Marry me?"
Junpei kneeled, looking up to his overjoyed Nero, and revealed the simple yet beautiful glittering golden ring inside the box.
"2!"
"1..!
"Yes! Yes, I do!" Nero jumped down to Junpei's level and...
"HAPPY NEW YEAR!"
The crowd cheered as the clock struck midnight.
Nero kissed Junpei, holding tightly into each other, before breaking the kiss and looking happily at each other.
Junpei looked down briefly and noticed Matsui staring at them. He smiled and nodded before Junpei returned the gesture. Matsui averted his gaze as the couple turned to face the many fireworks shooting in the sky.
"Happy New Year, my Nero."
"Happy New Year to you too, Jun-Jun!"
They laughed at Nero's nickname for Junpei before cuddling and enjoying the atmosphere.
It was a great start to the new year.
