Chapter Text
Bakugou Katsuki couldn't say that he'd expected presenting as an omega. Before presenting, he'd been the most athletic and aggressive kid in his entire middle school. Thinking back on it he did realise that his athleticism came from training instead of a natural ability, and his aggressivity came from the pride of having such a great quirk, that he needed to be the best. He wasn't very stereotypically soft or calm, and he didn't like keeping the peace or following others.
He didn't much care about being a different type of omega, if people didn't like him as he was, they could just suck it.
Being an omega was not a problem for Katsuki. He could still do all the things he'd planned. He was going to continue to train, to develop more muscle mass and hone his body to use his quirk more effectively. He was going to enter UA and become the number one hero, surpass even All Might. He had no doubt that he would get to his goals.
The only thing that may get in his way was the instinctual need for a mate. He had planned on taking alpha-suppressants and settle down much later, but the omega-suppressants were way less effective and had major side-effects that would hinder hero work. He couldn't have sudden drops in focus or quirk power. So he needed to find an alpha before he got to UA. Preferably sooner rather than later, as he had to get comfortable with that person and spend intimate time with them during his immature heats.
As he was one of the last to present, as all powerful quirk users were, he could see what selection of alphas was available in his grade.
The main issue was that this bunch of extras were all useless to him. They were weak and didn't apply themselves to their studies. They didn't have goals or ambition like him. He had very little in common with all of them. The most offending part of this was that he'd heard most of them talk about their prospective omegas and all had been very controlling and domineering in their planning. Katsuki didn't want an alpha that would hold him back. He didn't want to have children any time soon, didn't plan on stopping his studies or staying home. And he didn't care if he made more money than his alpha or had higher status. He was going to be a hero, the best of them.
He was quite disappointed. None of the alphas available were anywhere close to a good partner for him. He resigned himself to looking in the higher grade. He didn't like the power balance of being younger than his alpha but given the possibilities, he'd have to deal.
There were a few older students that might be interesting partners, a boy just a year older with a shape-shifting quirk, and two girls two years older, one with a healing quirk and the other with a fire quirk. He doubted the older girls would be interested in a younger boy like him. And he was uncomfortable with getting to know the boy, as he was always around his classmates.
He was just gearing up to approaching the boy when the last of his classmates finally presented.
Deku had stayed unpresented for the longest time, and Katsuki had thought that he'd either stay this way or become a beta. The meek boy was neither particularly alpha or omega.
But Katsuki, and everyone else, had been wrong about Midoriya Izuku. When he came to school that Monday, Deku came in smelling of immature alpha. That was a surprise to Katsuki, but more than that, it was an opportunity.
If Deku stayed the same, he could be a good alpha partner. He was awed and intimidated by Katsuki and his quirk, had stood up for the omega boy that had presented first and respected the authority of his omega mother without hesitation. He was also the only student that applied themselves in their class and the only one that had begun training to get into UA. He was serious about his goals and was ambitious, even if Katsuki knew he would fail.
Katsuki had pushed him away a long time ago because the boy was too set onto a goal that he would never attain. He couldn't understand why he refused to set his mind to something more achievable. Katsuki was a realist. From a young age he knew he needed a lot of studying and a serious training regimen to get into UA, which was why he'd been training for years already. He was completely baffled by Deku's unbreakable dream in the face of so many obstacles.
Katsuki gave himself some time to think things through. He could still approach the upperclassman, or he could shift his focus on Deku. Deku had the advantage for now, for the sheer fact that Katsuki already knew him and knew that the nerd would agree to mate. That week, he kept his distances with Deku and made sure that his usual crowd also left him alone. He got curious stares from the alpha but refused to acknowledge him.
That weekend, Katsuki revised all he knew of the two alpha he'd retained as possible mates. The Deku column was far more complete than the other, but the upperclassman had important things going for him. He had a solid quirk and planned to become an engineer. He was ambitious in a way that Katsuki predicted would be successful and he would have a steady job that would provide stability to him and his future family.
Deku would fail at getting into UA, Katsuki was sure of it. His personality was perfect for Katsuki's purposes but there was no way to predict what Deku would do after his failure.
Katsuki pondered over his dilemma. He decided to ask his omega father what he thought of the problem, without mentioning any names or the urgency of his decision.
'An alpha that you know will be good to you is better than one you know will have money in the long run.' was his father's answer.
One more point in Deku's favor. Katsuki guessed he could deal with Deku's inevitable failure by researching possible careers for the alpha. He would not be doing it himself, that was for sure.
Reviewing his knowledge of the nerd, he decided that he would do good as a guidance counselor or a therapist, as he was observant and protected others. If the nerd wanted to stay in law enforcement, he could be a policeman. Katsuki compiled information on how to get to those positions and selected schools that were close to UA and had good national ratings.
His research done, he had one final problem to face.
How to reconnect with Deku.
The solution came when both him and Deku were appointed by the teacher to tidy up at the end of the PE lesson. They had to gather the large mattresses used in gymnastics and pile them up in the shed behind the gymnasium.
'You're an alpha now, Deku?' Katsuki began. 'You get any omegas running after you yet?'
Deku startled a bit at the breach of silence and turned towards Katsuki.
'Aah, yes I'm an alpha, but no, not really.' The muttering was still annoying to Katsuki, he'd have to make Deku drop that habit. 'Thanks for telling your friends to let me be, Kacchan.'
'They're not my friends, those fucking extras.' Katsuki snapped. 'I needed to talk to you about something, couldn't do that if you just avoided me like usual.'
Deku looked more nervous at that and refused to meet Katsuki's eyes.
'What-, what did you want to tell me, Kacchan?'
He was probably expecting more of Katsuki's efforts to get him to drop the UA dream.
'Do you want to be mates?' Katsuki asked, straight to the point.
Deku turned a red tomato shade and backed away several feet. His eyes were very wide and he was left speechless for long seconds.
'Well?' Katsuki demanded.
'M-m-, mates ?' Deku repeated, his voice high and disbelieving. 'With me?'
'Yes, with you. You're the least offensive option in this entire school. And I already know you.'
That wasn't very romantic. But then Katsuki wasn't romantic in the least. His choice of partner was based on logic and his life plans. Deku just made sense, there was no need to lie about his feelings.
'And we're both going to UA!' Deku added stupidly. It was nearly enough for Katsuki to rethink his plan. But he reminded himself of the plans he'd made for him and calmed down. His only reaction to that comment was to shrug.
'Kacchan is so smart! If we mate now, we'll be used to the other and our cycles will be tame before we become heroes! We can avoid the heat and rut leave from class and study, and train and progress better… As expected of Kacchan, always so focused-'
'Will you stop muttering!' Katsuki stopped the alpha in his tracks, feeling his own face heat up. With Deku as a mate, he was sure never to run out of praise, the alpha was so used to complimenting him at all times. 'So, will you mate with me?'
Deku was still extremely red in the face, but he was not backing up any more. 'Y-yes, Kacchan, I-' He gulped. 'I will mate with you.'
Satisfaction warmed Katsuki from deep. He couldn't ignore his omega instincts, the urge to purr in victory at such a good alpha agreeing to mate. His face must have translated this feeling quite clearly, because the nerd began smiling at him brightly.
'You will come with me after school, right Deku?'
The alpha nodded rapidly, still smiling wide. Katsuki finished pushing the gym mattresses against the wall of the shed and left, head high. He always got what he wanted.
The first ring at the end of the day, both Katsuki and Deku shot up and ran down to the exit. Switching their shoes from the uniform pair to their casual, they kept glancing at each other.
'Race you to my place, Deku!'
Katsuki didn't lose a second after his dare and sped towards the gate. The way to his house was familiar to both of them and they only had a few minutes of running before they arrived in the neighborhood. They were neck and neck, sprinting in excitement and challenge. Katsuki was the first to tap the wall of the house, but only because the path didn't allow both of them to fit side to side.
He unlocked the door and pulled the alpha behind him. The house was dark and still, his parents not yet back from work. He got Deku into his bedroom and threw their bags on the ground before attacking the alpha. He tackled him onto the bed, pushing the breath out of the boy, and straddled him. They were both panting from their race and the flushed look on Deku's face gave rise to even more heat in Katsuki's.
'If we do this, it will be hard to undo it.' Mating was not as serious as bonding but it still involved a chemical realignment, meaning it would take some time and withdrawal to break it. 'Are you sure, Deku.'
Katsuki had to ask. He wouldn't suffer through a withdrawal, impacting his training and studying, if he could avoid it.
Deku looked at him with awe, settling his hands on Katsuki's waist and relaxing under him. He closed his eyes, sniffed Katsuki's scent that was permeating his space and smiled wide.
'I'm sure Kacchan.' He didn't stutter or mutter, completely calm and at ease, pinned to the mattress as he was.
Again, Katsuki had to fight the instinct to purr in satisfaction. His alpha was so good to him. Letting himself be dominated by the omega, going pliant under him, agreeing to mate. This was very good. Katsuki had chosen well. He couldn't recall why he'd ever thought the upperclassman would have been a good option, when Deku was perfect like this.
Katsuki took Deku's hand and brought it up to his face. He nuzzled into the scent glands at his wrist, inhaling the fresh smell of pine and ginger. His alpha smelled so good. He could vaguely hear the nerd moan under him, but he was focused on his task. He brought the delicious scent to his neck and intermingled it with his own, marking himself as Deku's. Deku shot up at that. He grasped Katsuki's hip tighter and kissed his cheek.
'Kacchan, please.' His voice was rough and barely understandable through the low sound of his purr. He smelled even better up close.
Katsuki bit down on his wrist. The taste was incomparable. Strong and light at the same time, surprising Katsuki by all the layers of flavor he could detect. It tingled on his tongue, a bit spicy. He found himself licking at the wound and purring, enjoying it. When he came back to himself, he noticed that Deku had an arm around him and had tucked his nose into Katsuki's neck.
He was taking deep breaths, his mouth open against the skin of his collarbones. Katsuki shivered in delight at the sensation.
'Deku, your turn.' He couldn't help but moan when his alpha kissed his neck so fervently.
'Yes.' Deku lifted his head, and Katsuki could see the unshed tears pooling in his eyes. 'Yes, Kacchan, my omega.'
He cradled Katsuki's left hand in his, tucking their fingers together and depositing a sweet kiss on the wrist. He breathed in deep, before biting down. Katsuki erupted in goosebumps. There was nearly no pain, and the pleasure more than made up for it. It was so good, so terribly good and he didn't know what to do with so much joy. He all but fell on top of Deku, boneless.
The two of them stayed out of it for a while, simply laying together and scenting their burgeoning mated scent. From Deku's pine and ginger was added Katsuki's smoke and cinnamon. The mix was heavenly.
In the next few days, their mated scent would stabilise. They would begin to smell like a mated couple, overriding their own singular scents. The chemical mating would take up to a few weeks, but they could eventually locate each other through scent in a crowd, and their instincts would line up with their partner's emotions. They would begin to crave each other's presence during their cycles, heats and ruts ending quicker when they were together. After a few years of being mated, their cycles could last as little as a few hours.
Katsuki was satisfied. He had a great alpha locked down. Now, he just needed to get used to the other boy and continue training. They had an entire year to do that, then three years of UA learning how to juggle instincts and heroism.
This shit was so easy.
