Work Text:
“Hey sweet boy, how are you feeling?” I asked my husband with great concern. He had been kidnapped by the unsub and while we found him within an hour, I knew it brought up bad memories for him, not to mention the pain he was in from being knocked out. The car pulled up at the small airport we’d flown into, but I waited for an answer before getting out.
“Not great, y/n,” he whined, pinching the bridge of his nose.
“JJ is right here, she’ll help you into the plane and I’ll bring your satchel and go bag, okay?”
“Thank you darling. Thanks JJ,” he groaned.
“Don’t mention it Spence,” JJ said as she helped him out.
I walked into the jet cabin and saw Spencer sitting up on the sofa.
I put my bags next to his on the seat in the corner, and sat down next to him.
“Don’t you want to lay down sweetheart?” I asked him gently.
“Yeah, but I was waiting for you,” he mumbled and put his head on my shoulder.
I stroked his hair and whispered,
“Put your head in my lap baby.”
He blushed and did so, his long legs hanging off of the end of the sofa. His arms lay gently over his stomach and his face visibly relaxed as he settled down.
“I’m so sorry I couldn’t protect you my baby boy,” I said.
“Not your fault,” he whispered with a frown.
“I love you so much sweetheart,” I sighed and ran my fingers through his messy hair.
“Me too, love,” was all he said before drifting off.
I spent the next hours tracing his facial features with my fingers and stroking his head, mesmerised by his beauty and counting my lucky stars he was safe and alive. I couldn’t think straight before we found him, I was of no use to the team at all.
I put the worst out of my head as I looked up at our friends, the team, who had saved the love of my life and me in the process. I smiled gratefully at JJ when she saw me looking at her, and whispered a quiet ‘thank you’.
Half an hour before we reached Quantico the man in my lap woke up, and rubbed his eyes before looking up at me.
“How are you doing my sweetheart?”
“Hmmm.” He groaned meagerly, which I knew meant better but still not great.
“Come on Spence, we’re nearly home and I can take care of you in our own apartment,” I coaxed.
A soft smile grew on his face and he very carefully sat up, holding my hand as soon as he was vertical.
“Love you my angel.” He whispered just for me to hear.
