1. ^ - lying in chamber was a room only for when ladies were giving birth
2. ^ - many people shot arrows, opened and closed drawers or unlocked chests as a superstition so that the baby would grow up nice and healthy
3. ^ - the midwife would soak the newborns in either wine or milk for upper class children to clean them, would clear their mouth of any mucus and spread honey for their pallets. They already wrapped them in linen strips so that their limbs would be long and healthy

Chapter 1: Long Live Lilith

Chapter Text

“Get more towels! Her Grace is losing too much blood!” A midwife shouted within the crowd of panicked people present in the ^lying-in chamber.

The Palace was in a frenzy ever since The Queen had gone into labour. It had gone smoothly as Her Grace had successfully delivered a healthy boy, Isaiah; but she had another child to give birth too. She was already in a frail and bloodied state. She barely managed to survive the first child. Many were worried she would not survive the second.

Her banshee screams echoed and roared throughout the grim hallways. ^Blood was spilling everywhere and the workers were panicking. They prayed, opened cupboards and shot arrows into the air.

The King had not shown an appearance until he had heard of the new baby boy. Only then did he walse into the room, snatched the boy and glared at the corpse of a mother. “Good job,” his voice was stripped of any sympathy, any love. He then left the room, not letting her even hold her son.

Her voice was too hoarse from screaming to yell at him to give her son back. All she could do was limply extend out her arm. She shortly began to scream cries of pain again.

“One more push Olivia!” The Queen’s sister reassured as she held her hand. And with one last screech the fourth Bedlias child was born. Everyone rejoiced and quickly took the child to clean. The queen immediately fainted and the royal doctor fell to the floor as his stress resided.

I blinked, opened my heavy eyelids and was instantly blinded with the unusual light. My first instinct was to check where I was but my head wouldn’t budge. My body didn’t obey my commands. I didn’t feel like I was this… small before. I felt myself being passed to different people.

It felt like the world was spinning. I was overwhelmed and terrified with this unfamiliar situation. I couldn’t control myself and began to bawl my eyes out, harder than I’ve ever.

“She cried! The child is healthy!” A voice called out. Everything was too big, too loud. I was then dipped into a basin. ^The smell of wine pierced my nose. I was swiftly taken out before someone stuck a finger covered with honey into my mouth, spreading the overly sweet substance on my tongue.

“She is beautiful! She is a blessing from God himself!” Another voice loudly shouted. I attempted to push these people away but once again my body was too feeble. I was swaddled snugly into linen strips and placed gently into a crib where all the light left. My eyes adjusted but it was still bright for these eyes. My heavy head fell to the side and I saw another crib, empty.

“What did Her Majesty want to call her again?”, “Lilith! It was Lilith!” Voices spoke out. My heart dropped at the mention of that name. Lilith, Lilith. I repeated that name in my head like it was a spell.

Where had I heard that before? Then it struck me like a bullet. “Lilith Bedlias! The county’s very own princess” a voice announced. That confirmed my suspicions. Lilith Bedlias, that dim witted princess from that god-awful novel that..that dies. I had become her. What am I going to do? She’s just some stupid side character, a minor villain that adds nothing to the novel! The last novel I read before—dying.
