SSN 3 Ep 2 – In Justice
“So I guess you’re going to have to drive me to work,” Lucy says looking at Jackson as they collect their things from Nolan’s.
“I guess I am,” he agrees.
“I want to get there early so I can report my car stolen in the system and make flyers,” she says.
“Flyers?” he questions, “it’s not a lost dog Lucy, it’s a car.”
“I know, but flyers are an effective way of getting people’s attention. I can also hand them out at the station so that when everyone is out on patrol they can keep an eye out for it,” she tells him.
“Of course,” Jackson says realizing her optimism is probably a little much but he doesn’t want to crush her dreams of recovering her car.
On the way to work Lucy pulls out her phone and reads the new department email that Grey sent out that morning. As she reads she fills Jackson in on the most important points.
“Oh, looks like rollcall is in the parking lot,” she says as she looks over at Jackson, “that’s weird.”
“It’s probably just to keep everyone on neutral ground,” Jackson says, “especially with new officers coming in; Grey will want everyone to feel like they are receiving the same treatment.”
“Oh okay, I’ll have to let Tim know, he never reads these,” she says rolling her eyes.
Tim walks out of the locker room and starts walking towards rollcall but realizes the room is looking suspiciously empty; minus Smitty who’s already got his feet up on one of the tables.
“Oh hey, roll call is outside,” he hears as he turns to see Chen waving him over towards the exit.
“What? How do you know? And why?” he asks as he catches up to her.
“It was in one of those emails, you know the ones you never read,” she teases.
“Why would I bother reading them when I have you?” he says with a smirk.
“Anyways,” she says, “Jackson assumes Grey wants everyone in a neutral space to introduce the new officers and any changes that may be happening, you know, post- Armstrong. Oh that and earthquake retrofitting,” she explains.
Tim nods then lets Chen head out to join her fellow rookies while he hangs back and walks out with Harper who is looking just as confused as he was only moments ago.
After collecting Tamara’s contact info (because of course a homeless girl still has a cellphone) Lucy reiterates her promise to get her to a children’s shelter. Lucy drives her own car back to the station after dropping Tamara off and manages to avoid Tim’s judgy eyes when she returns. Later that night she’s half asleep when her phone starts buzzing on her nightstand. Turns out the children’s shelter wasn’t the place Tamara wanted to stay. So in true Lucy fix-it fashion she gets up early and settles on her couch with her laptop to start researching other options for the teen.
“So how did it go with your puppy?” Tim asks later the next day.
“I gave her my car, and her name is Tamara,” Lucy emphasizes.
“You what? Look Chen I know that your compassion and empathy for others is part of what makes you, well you,” he says starting to ramble a little, “but you can’t just give a seventeen-year-old girl your car,” he says.
“Look, I didn’t just give it to her. We made a deal,” Lucy says proudly, “she has to check in with me once a day and let myself and Social Services find her a place. It’s temporary,” Lucy explains.
“Temporary, right,” he says clearly unimpressed, “just wait, soon she’ll be sleeping on your couch once a week and rifling through your baseball card collection,” he mutters.
“What?” Lucy asks making sure she heard him correctly.
“Nothing, forget it,” he says smiling realizing he may or may not have revealed information about his first puppy.
“So how exactly do you plan on, I don’t know, getting to work?” he asks attempting to poke more holes in her plan and distract her from his previous statement.
“Jackson,” she says like it’s the most obvious thing on the planet.
“And he’s okay with that?” he asks her.
“Yes. Honestly I think it’s good timing. He is kind of struggling to get some balance with Stanton so I’m hoping driving in with him will help,” Lucy says.
Tim nods pretending to understand.
“Actually, speaking of, maybe you could talk to him?” she request with her big eyes.
“To Stanton, no thanks,” he says immediately shutting down the idea.
“No dummy, to Jackson. Maybe some male T.O. advice is something he needs to hear, I don’t know,” she says.
“Male T.O. advice?” Tim repeats just to make sure she realizes how stupid that sounds.
“Yes. It won’t help coming from me, and Nolan is a rookie too so he hasn’t been around different cops like you have. Please,” she says begging just a tiny bit.
“Maybe, if I happen to run into him,” he says reluctantly knowing he’s probably going to give in and do it anyway.
“Thank you. Now I have tutoring at the Community Centre,” Lucy says smiling as she goes to change out for the day.
