Work Text:
Alcaeus silently watched his lover's expression, as he listened to Idris' discovery.
After Idris had finished, Alcaeus nodded at him softly, unsure what to say at first.
Gender wasn't of high importance in his land, but he was aware that it was different to humans.
He thought for a second and decided to first check on how his lover was feeling about this.
The prince did seem rather nonchalant about the matter though.
"Do you feel as though you were robbed of a body and life you should've had then?", the elf asked in a calm demeanor, trying his best to be compassionate.
The prince stayed silent, letting a few moments pass before finally turning to look at his love with a blank face.
"Not quite, I have experienced some disconnect over the years with manhood, but I've never yearned for womanhood either.
I feel as though I wouldn't be much different, if I had stayed in a female body.", while explaining his feelings,
his reflection in the deep waters had been constantly warped by the waves,
disfiguring him while showing the dullness and rough exterior of himself for the first time in years.
But in contrary to the past, where it'd haunt him to look so similar to that monster of a father of his, he saw something different in his eyes.
He saw a glimpse of life, which made his lips curl up in the hint of a smile.
Next to him he saw his lover in the fluid mirror of the lake,
the way his eyes were clinging to the prince's face with a gentleness and adoration he had never seen before.
Although their contrast in appearance, from Idris' unkept light curls to Alcaeus' dark and flat strands,
to his lover's thin and long fingers intertwined with his short and thick ones, it didn't feel alienating to him to be with someone so different.
Rather Alcaeus' presence felt fitting, comforting.
He looked up from the waters and turned to gaze upon his lover quietly.
A man like him had chosen Idris wnd as much as at first questioned his judgement for it,
he was eternally grateful for the glimpse of heaven he found in his arms.
Alcaeus had the smuggest and most smitten grin on his complexion, as he watched his Idris visibly adore every inch of him, and planted a soft kiss on his lover's nose.
For now, life was good.
