Chapter Text
Magnus remembered both the day he met Alex Fierro, and the very moment he’d fallen in love with him. Alex was genderfluid and today was a he/him day. Magnus had come to terms with the fact that he wasn’t straight at a fairly young age and with little fan faire. His mother hadn’t minded one bit, so it was easy for Magnus to accept it as well.
“That’s just how it is honey.” she had said. “It’s not different or wrong, it’s just a fact. It’s as important to me as the fact that you like apples. I don’t care about the fact that you can fall in love with anyone, I care about you.”
Magnus felt a wave of sadness rush over him as he remembered that day. They had been hiking at Bridal Veil Falls, that was about a month before the fire that had killed her and burnt down their apartment.
“Psst” Magnus startled out of his thoughts to a bubblegum pink doc marten kicking him in the shin. “We’re in class genius, pay attention.” Magnus rolled his eyes and whispered back, “Says you, you’ve been doodling all class.”
Alex Fierro scoffed and blew a strand of his green hair out of his face. “Shush Chase. I don’t want to get in trouble.” He went back to drawing in a thick sketchbook laid out in front of him. Magnus glanced over to try and see what he was drawing, but only caught a glimpse of two unfinished figures lying in a grassy field before Alex caught him staring, went red, and turned the book away from him. Magnus blinked hard.
Did... Alex just blush??? The cool, cold, untouchable Alex Fierro??? Blushing.
Alex saw him still looking and scowled at him before flipping him off. Well ok then. Magnus turned his eyes back to the board but not before catching his friend Thomas Jefferson Jr, or T.J for short, staring at him. T.J grinned and flashed two thumbs up at Magnus.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Alex couldn’t believe himself. Did he really just blush at Magnus fucking Chase??? Judging by Magnus’s staring problem, he definitely noticed. Alex cursed himself. ‘Mother fucking idiot. You have spent the past year and half pining after that unfairly adorable idiot, don’t ruin it now.’
Sometimes, Alex’s inner voice could be very reasonable.
That night, Alex couldn’t sleep. He was plagued by thoughts of his gorgeous crush. His imagination was running wild. He conjured up images of Magnus asking him out and of waking up beside the adorable blonde... ‘I bet he has really cute bed head.’ Alex thought before mentally slapping himself. ‘Really? Bedhead? That cannot be what you’re romanticizing right now.’ He sighed and pulled himself out of bed.
Switching on the light, he went over to his desk and pulled out his notebook and a pen.
‘I can’t believe I’m doing this.’ Alex thought before reasoning, ‘Whatever. It’s not like I’m giving it to him. I just need to get this out.’
The next morning Magnus met his friend, and Alex’s half-sister, Samirah Al-Abass in front of the school. He sighed before sitting down on the concrete next to her.
“Magnus, why in the world are you sitting on the ground?” She paused for a moment before asking, "Is this about Alex?” He looked gloomily up at her and nodded. “Yeah. He- wait, is it she/her today?” Sam and Alex lived together so she had had the more recent encounter with the green haired whirlwind. Sam nodded. “Ok, anyways, I might be reading into things but she, um... blushed at me yesterday?” Sam burst into laughter. Magnus shushed her, looking around quickly.
“Sorry, sorry. But... Alex? Blushing? I think you’re starting to make things up.”
“No, I know! But- like. I swear. She actually went RED.” Sam smiled secretively as she said, “Ok Magnus, get up. It’s almost time for class.”
That morning, Samirah had walked into Alex’s room to find her asleep on her desk, next to a note. Sam, out of curiosity glanced at the note and read the first couple sentences. She smiled and woke Alex up. Alex, in her rush to get ready, had left Sam and the note alone in her room. Sam, who had started to walk out behind Alex, looked back at the note. She pressed her lips together. ‘You’ll thank me later sister.’ She thought as she walked downstairs with the note and slipped it into her backpack.
Magnus and Samirah walked to their lockers, chatting about her betrothed, Amir Fadlan. As Magnus approached his locker, Sam suddenly went quiet. Magnus spun in his locker combo and glanced at Sam. She seemed to be holding her breath. He yanked his stubborn locker open and paused.
“Sam?” He asked. “Did you put this here?” She tilted her head and approached his locker.
“Put what- Oh. What’s that?” she said quizzically. Magnus had no answer. In his hands was a folded letter. He opened it and his eyes went wide as he started to read, recognizing the familiar scrawl.
Dear Magnus,
This is really fucking stupid, and I can’t believe I’m writing this but there’s something I have to get off my chest. I really like you. Like... to a scary point. I think I might use the word love. I don’t like that word. It’s a big commitment. Love Letters are really fucking cliché, but you have never let me follow my ‘I don’t care about shit’ attitude.
Ugh. Why is your face so stupidly kissable stupid. It’s not fair. I want to lay with you in a field of grass while staring at the stars and talking about everything and nothing. You’re driving me insane, and you don’t even know it. You make me want to abandon everything to live in a small apartment and do cute mundane shit like... I don’t know, what do couples do??? Go grocery shopping? That would normally sound so boring but somehow the idea of doing it with you makes my heart beat a million times a minute.
You have tripped your way into my life and shattered my cold bastard persona with your pretty perfectly average face, cute stupid Kurt Cobain hair, and sunshiny smiles
Sincerely,
Love,
With much regret,
Alex Fierro
