Chapter Text
“Shrimp.”
Your pencil scriching comes to a sudden stop. “what?” you say quietly. Your small boat sways under you as you look up from your notebook to the newcomer. He’s a mer that you’ve previously met on multiple occasions. His scales are multiple shades of blue with fins around his head that vaguely look like a nightcap. His brother, a similar looking mer with yellow scales and fins that look like sun rays surrounding his head, growls quietly at his brother.
“I’ve been trying to get their attention for 10 minutes and you calling them a shrimp is what catches them.” Sun sinks lower into the water to sulk while Moon just laughs.
“Have you ever considered that they just like me better?” Moon snickered with obvious mirth. You begin to speak before Sun can open his mouth to retort.
“What about me reminds you of a shrimp?” You demand, fluffing out your wings in an attempt to prove that you are, in fact, not a sea creature. You put your drawing notebook to the side to show your undivided attention to the conversation at hand.
“Your posture mainly.” Moon grins, revealing needle sharp teeth.
You scoff. While you and Moon continue to bicker, you miss Sun rising from the water and reaching one of his webbed hands toward your notebook.
Now, you knew that you would spend a lot of time on the water with your friends, so you had the forethought to buy a waterproof notebook. This came to your absolute disadvantage when Sun extended one of his gangly arms over your deck and snatched the book.
Only noticing this too late, your wings flair out as you shoot forward to attempt to get the book back. Moon catches you before you fall into the water. He steadies you on your boat while his brother swims out of your reach with his prize.
“I don’t know why you don’t want us to see what you draw in this book, you can’t THAT bad at dra-” his words cut off and he stops flipping through the pages to look at you. You feel your face flush scarlet with embarrassment.
