Got lovestruck, went straight to my head.

Summary:

“ Sakura~"

Yae Sakura, who had been sitting next to a box, turned her head to the source of the voice. The soft yet bold voice made her smile unconsciously.

"Good evening, Kallen."

The pink haired woman, though unwilling, now that her lover was here, turned her attention back to what she was doing. A box full of salt lay next to her as she salted the sakura blossoms she had collected for this winter.

Work Text:

"Sakura~"

Yae Sakura, who had been sitting next to a box, turned her head to the source of the voice. The soft yet bold voice made her smile unconsciously.

"Good evening, Kallen."

The pink haired woman, though unwilling, now that her lover was here, turned her attention back to what she was doing. A box full of salt lay next to her as she salted the sakura blossoms she had collected for this winter.

A practice that she had started when Rin was alive. When the petals were covered with salt as a method if preservation, they would later bloom at any time of the year, when put in water.

"What are you doing?"

"Preserving sakura blossoms. Salt dries the moisture in the petals, making them last for a much longer time."

The white haired woman sat behind her, her neck craning over Yae Sakura's shoulder as she observed the process.

"Can I have a taste?"

Sakura gently nudged her lover with her shoulder. "You can, but I wouldn't recommend it. The salt would make it almost unbearable."

Kallen pouted in response, resting all the weight of her head onto the other's shoulder. Sakura planted a small kiss on the Kaslana's cheek, before setting aside the equipment and standing up.

"Come with me, I can help you get a taste."

Kallen hurriedly stood up and followed Sakura outside, before the both sat under a sakura tree. The cherry blossoms fell down slowly, framing a cloth that was placed on the ground near the tree. After guiding her lover to their spot, Sakura spoke up.

"Go sit there. I'll be back in a few minutes."

Kallen obeyed, watching as her lover disappeared into the house. As promised, a few minutes later, she came back with a tray.

"Woah!"

She covered her mouth as the noise involuntarily pushed itself out of her voice box.

She cleared her throat, a slight red blush forming on her face.

In a moment, Kallen was distracted again. How could she not? The falling petals, combined with the reddish-pink sky painted Sakura as a goddess. The golden light fell on her, while the pink sky made everything look even more ethereal.

"You're so.."

"I'm so what Kallen?"

"You just are so. There's not a word to describe you."

Sakura chuckled at her lover, before bringing the tray closer to the both of them. She lifted the lid and revealed onigiri that were pink in color.

"Did you mix some sort of love potion in this? That won't be necessary, y'know."

"As much as I’d love to, no. The pink color comes from salted sakura petals. Have a taste." Kallen took the onigiri and bit into it, her eyes lighting up.

The salt complimented the plain but sweet taste of rice perfectly, and the flavor that the sakura petals had was just the cherry on top.

"If this onigiri was you, I'd kiss it."

"I'm right here."

Kallen leaned to her lover, pressing a kiss to her lips. Sakura hummed in response, cupping her face and bringing her closer.

Once she sat back in her place, the Kaslana let impulse and curiosity take over. She grabbed one of the salted petals and put one in her mouth.
Bad idea.

"Ahck- Bad idea, bad idea!"

Sakura sighed lightheartedly, before bringing a cup of tea to Kallen. The nun wasted no time in washing down the salt with the tea.

"How does everything you make taste good?"

"Ah- does it? I only ever cooked for Rin, and, I'm glad to see that you enjoy my cooking too."

Sakura developed a light blush, smiling gently before turning her face to the faint light of the stars that had started appearing in the sky. Perhaps she was attempting to hide the rosy tint, perhaps she was truly in the mood to look at the glittering stars.

They were Rin's favourite. Whenever she could see them, she'd smile with glee.

But she needn't worry about Rin or herself being lonely anymore. Rin was doing better. And so was she. Kallen closed the gap that had tortured her heart.

"Kallen, you are the whole world to me."

"You mean no less to me, Sakura. I'd sacrifice myself if it meant to save you."

"I'd have nothing to live for if you weren't alive."

"Ah- you're so cheesy."

"Haha, am I? I just think telling the truth is always better."

Kallen rested her head in her lover's lap, who cupped her face with her own hand, before the two fell asleep in the soft glow of the moment.

Sakura woke up a bit later, the sky having taken a dark blueshade, Kallen asleep in her lap. She picked up Kallen, in her arms, before tucking her into bed.

The tray could survive a night out in the cold. She couldn't. Not without Kallen.

And so, she climbed into bed with her lover, wrapping her arms around the Kaslana, burying her face in her neck and falling asleep once again.

“I don’t think I’d be able to live if I lost you too. You’re everything and more.

I love you, Kallen. Sleep well.”
