For Your Ice Only

Summary:

After an embarrassing moment in the ice rink, Suzy asks Boboiboy to teach her how to skate.

Despite his unfamiliarity with the sport, he still gives her the help she seeks for.

Work Text:

Suzy is pissed. When anyone sees her walking by in the halls with that look and rebukes their friendly greetings, then that's mean.

But if you try to have a chit chat with her while she's in a pissy mood, then you're automatically a jerk in her eyes. All the more reason why Suzy scoffs at their morning gestures and glaring back at them.

She isn't in the mood, that's all.

A pair of boys were playing in the classroom entrance much to her annoyance for standing in the way.

“Hey!” They winced at her sudden presence. “Don't you creeps know how to be a gentleman, huh?”

They didn't need to answer, so they both stepped aside for her to move in.

“Jerks…” she mumbled but made sure they heard it.

A few students in the class tries hard enough to ignore her even with the weight of dread in their stomachs holding them back from doing so, but they carry on with their days.

Two minutes went by, Yaya and Ying came to the classroom with the pen and notepad in the school president's hands. The two seemed disappointed and Suzy wasn't surprised at all.

“Suzy, we heard complaints from half the student body of you being rude to them,” Yaya reminded her with a stern tone. “Care to explain?”

Suzy kept her focused on the book. “This isn't the best time.” She muttered.

Their faces fell. “Suzy, we've known you for a long time, and we know you're like this whenever you get upset. But now your attitude is getting worse.” Ying said. “What's the problem?”

Suzy groaned. “Like I said, it's not the best time.”

Yaya hummed and tapped her chin. “Let me guess, you're waiting for Boboiboy? Because you are more open with him the most?” Now that got her attention.

Crud, of course she'd figured that out. “How would you know?”

Yaya puts her notepad down on her table. “I figured that much, in that case I understand. But, please don't take it out on your classmates. This is your last warning.”

Suzy deeply sighed. “I'm not taking out my frustration on everyone here, Yaya. I just don't want to he bothered.” She said,

They paused before Yaya spoke again. “Okay Suzy. We'll go now.”

Just as they headed over to their own seats, he finally came.

“Boboiboy, morning.” She called out.

Boboiboy smiled and went to sit next to her. “Morning, Suzy.”

A brief silence filled between them, neither knew what to say other than ‘morning’ and ‘hello.’

“Hey uhm,” she paused again, feeling awkward all of a sudden. “Thanks for coming by.”

“Anytime Suzy.” He replied.

“Well, not all the time because you guys will always go to space to kick butt and save the day.” She rebuked.

“Ehh, that's why I always say that.” He told her.

Suzy rolled her eyes. “Whatever, at least I called you last night.”

He chuckled at her reaction. “And you're lucky I was awake that time. Even if I'm asleep, I'd still answer your calls.”

“Of course you would.” She replied.

“Yes. So anyway, what's wrong?”

Suzy groaned again, he had to ruin the mood that could potentially brighten up to make her day. But she called him here, best not to waste time now with annoying teachers coming in their class at any time.

She explained. “Yesterday, I was shopping in the mall.” Her eyes narrowed down at him for chuckling. “I know I am a shopping addict! So what?!” She suddenly growled.

“Sorry,” he stopped himself. “Just get to the point.”

“Ugh, I came across the ice rink. Ice-skating was beautiful and such, so I gave it a try. And well,” she hummed to formulate more words in her head. “You could say maybe I shouldn't try something just because it may seem beautiful and while I'm inexperienced.”

“Let me guess you slipped on some ice?” He guessed it, and Suzy confirmed with her nodding gesture.

“And it didn't stop there, people were laughing at me. I was so embarrassed.” She cringed at that memory in her mind. “And they even took a video of it and posted it on their Facebook reels!”

As if it's her cue, they heard Gopal who sat next to the windows, laughing something at his phone.

Suzy recognized the background sounds of that video and fumed in anger and stood up. But Boboiboy saw this coming and held her shoulder.

“Woah, settle down, Suzy. Please, don't do it again like before.” It didn't take long for her to settle down. Because she only does so just for his sake only, even though he knows that. So that means if he's not around, then she would've beat up Gopal.

Wanting to calm her down, he asks, “Is there something I could do to help?”

Suzy took a breath and repeated. She's taking her this much time, like ten minutes or so to calm down. But those last five minutes were also spent so she could come up with anything to say without making him see her the wrong way. Not that he would, but from the feels of her impending request, it's kind of wrong.

“I need you to teach me how to ice skate.” She finally says.

“Wait, me?” He asked again.

Here it comes. “Because…” she hesitated, hoping that he wouldn't be angry with her or something. “You have ice powers and all…and when I think about ice, I think about Elsa. Even she teaches Anna how to skate at the end of the movie. And I was thinking if you could do the same.”

She raised her hands before he said anything. “But to be clear, it's not like I'm using you for your powers or anything! It's just, while I may be a jerk at times but I'm not that kind of person who uses other people for what they have and what they can do with it!”

Gopal turned around with a deadpan look. “No, but you're the only psycho here. And then you keep saying this school is for psychos and creeps.”

Suzy shot daggers at him. “WHAT DID YOU SAY?!” Her sudden rage froze him exactly like what would've happened if one took one single look at Medusa.

She instinctively calmed herself when Boboiboy touched her shoulder again. Much to her surprise, he wasn't upset with her request that involved his powers.

“I'll help you with that.” He answered.

To make sure if she heard that right is by asking again. “You mean that?”

“Of course, anything for my friends. But I just wondered why we can't also go back to that ice ring?”

“Because it's embarrassing to go back there! Not until I got the hang of skating!” She said, now upset with him for the question.

Boboiboy raised his hands in peace. “Alright, no big deal. After class, we can check out that pond just southwest from here. It's a good place to get started.”

Now that made Suzy feel better and smirked. “Oh now I'm already looking forward to that.”

“That's good to hear.” Boboiboy said, returning the gesture. “And also, Elsa is my favorite Disney princess.”

Suzy giggled. “Hehe, good to know, dude. I'll make sure to remember that when we get to the pond.”

Many hours later after class, and now with their daily clothes, they navigated their way through the forest to find the pond. Boboiboy has been here a few times before so he knew the way around these trees. But he remembered that Suzy hadn't been here before so he made sure to stay close with her too.

Suzy has to admit though, the forest looks so nice. Even though the sounds of crickets chirping filling the quietness in the woods, and the heat from the sun that annoys her a little because of the thick fabric of her sweater, this place is really great to come back and revisit another time.

But what irritates her a little is Boboiboy holding her hand. Like, of course she could understand his concerns over her safety ever since what happened with her creepy chemistry teacher. But since then, he's not only making sure she gets comfortable and feels safe, but he's been overprotective to her. It's so sweet of him, but also annoying at the same time with how he does it. Especially how he stands up for her against psychos and creeps.

Just like last week when they go to school and see their gym teacher who has been harassing her in the past, Boboiboy uses his Thorn element and traps him with his large vines. In broad daylight with many people watching!

But then, he made up for it afterwards by taking her to the eatery and they enjoyed themselves there. He's sweet as of now, but annoying like last time.

She mentally laughed at the irony, because she used to be the same back in Kota Hilir. And that's why she grew up being a jerk at times. And now when she needed help, Boboiboy did the same for her.

She snapped back from her thoughts when Boboiboy shoved the next bush aside and was satisfied that they found the pond.

“We made it!” He exclaimed and gave Suzy a good view of the big open water source. She awed at the sight, it's big with the size of the ice ring. Now this was also why Boboiboy chose this spot.

“Come on, let's go.” He said, taking her close to the water as she enjoys the view so much.

Only if he could just let go of her hand.

So without thinking, she yanked her hand away from his. Boboiboy stopped at his tracks with a bewildered look by her sudden attitude.

“Stop it because you're getting on my nerves. Chumachancing ka na!”

That got him annoyed right there. “Chumachancing? I'm just making sure you're fine while we're here.”

“Just making sure?” She repeated that with sarcasm. “But you keep holding my hand and never let go as if nag enjoy-enjoy ka!”

“Anong enjoy-enjoy?” Boboiboy asked back. “Suzy, I'm just too worried about you. And if you ever think that way, just because you're my friend doesn't mean you're my type!”

Suzy glared at him. “Hey! I like you but you're not my type either!” She raised a finger at him. “If you ever think otherwise, in your dreams, pervert.” She sneered.

Boboiboy took a brief silence before letting out a scoff. “Alright then. Are you done now?”

Suzy deeply sighed first. “Yes, sorry about that. I guess I'm still a little sensitive with wandering hands.”

“It's okay, Suzy.” He said.

“Thank you, and since you're teaching me to skate, then I'll have to allow you to hold me this time.”

Boboiboy respected her decision and went to the edge of the water.

“Kuasa Elemental! Boboiboy Ice!”

“Ice Pembeku!”

He froze the entire lake with one swift of his frozen hand.

Suzy stood next to him for a better view of the frozen pond. “So what to do first?” She asked eagerly.

Ice sheepishly scratched his cheek. “Actually, I don't know how to skate.” Now that earned him a deadpan look from her. “But from my own understanding, it is something similar to roller skating.

She raised her eyebrow. “How so?”

“It’s just the same as how they move their ice skates with their feet.” He explained. “And besides, I've done some roller skating for a while now, so I got a good grasp on the basics.”

She shrugged. “Since you're somewhat of an expert, I trust you.”

“Good, now stand still.” He flicks his fingers to release a small ice energy that turns her shoes into ice skates.

Suzy awed at the sight of her new equipment, they both have Ice's symbol and theme on them.

“Woah, Boboiboy, these are beautiful! But what now?”

Ice gave her a cheeky grin. “Oh come on, you can do it!” he grabbed her hands and pulled her as he used his feet to skate away.

It only lasted when he slipped his own ice and fell on while pulling her down with him.

He lands on his back and Suzy falls on his face.

She instantly went up from his face with a death glare. “ Don't do that again.”

“Hehehe, awesome!”

They both got up and brushed off some dust from their fall just as she shivered. “My god, you're too frigging cold!” She whined as he simply shrugged.  “Alright, since you're wearing a hoodie, and it's freezing out here, I better do the same.” She grabbed her hoodie and placed it over her head.

“Mabuti naman,” he commented. “Let's try again but slow.”

So they went over to the center of the ice.

“Okay, first thing's first-”

“Ima say all the words inside my head.” She finished with a childish grin.

Ice laughed at that. “I see what you did there. You keep that up, you'll get claimed.”

Suzy scoffed at his words. “Oh please, as if it ever happened.”

He cleared his throat. “Anyway, I will show you how to do it since this is basically like roller skating to me.”

He ran around for a bit and skidded his boots to start skating, he then performed a few basic tricks to keep going without falling off as Suzy observed him carefully. She's very observant, and he knew this really well and that's why he demonstrated this to her.

He stopped at her side and looked satisfied. “See?”

Suzy tapped her chin. “It seems simple. But the difference is that you're using your boots so easily because you're like Jack Frost, and I'm here with these ice skates.” She commented. “What if I bent my ankle and sprained it?”

“That won't happen.” He reassured her. “Because for one, each of your skating shoes have two blades. So you're good. Two, I'm here and making sure you don't get hurt.”

“Fair enough.”

“And if you want to stop, then put pressure on your feet to make the blades skidding harder on the ice…to sorta make you stop, that's about it.” He continued.

“Hmm, sounds stupid, but simple. Alright.”

Ice gestured to the other side from their position. “You go there slowly and steadily, then you can win the race.”

She nodded in reply. “Let's do this.”

Ice pushed her with a slight force that should give her some speed to get a head start. She kept her cool and did exactly what he demonstrated, with the first skid of her foot, she slightly got a little faster.

“See? Simple as that!” Ice called out, encouraging her to keep going.

Now experiencing that it isn't as hard as her first attempt, she increases her speed until she makes it to the end of the frozen pond.  Suzy is satisfied with that successful attempt as Ice catches up with her.

“You did really well.” He complimented her with a smile.

Suzy smiled back. “Yep, this isn't so bad.”

“In that case, try skating to the other side, but don't go too fast. At least not yet.” He instructed.

Suzy let out a competitive grin and spun around and moved forward and got a hang of skating. Ice also caught up with her with ease as they made it over to the side.

She barely stopped when they made it but Ice grabbed her arm into full stop.

“Thanks for that,” she appreciated.

“It's cool. You learn pretty fast.”

She clicked her tongue. “Mhm, so what's next? Maybe a challenge perhaps?”

Ice looked around for an activity. He then glanced back at her ice skates for the lightbulb appeared on his head.

“Here's this, we'll skate around the entire pond, you and me.”

Suzy cracked a cheeky grin. “You and me? I'm gonna skate with the superhero?”

Ice laughed it off. “No, you're skating with your best friend. But yeah, even with the superhero.”

“Oh, you're on!” She challenged him.

They steadily positioned themselves to warm up to getting ready.

“Suzy, if I say speed up, you speed up. If I said slow down, you slow down.” Ice said after finishing stretching his arms.

Suzy finished stretching her elbows. “You got it.” So with that, they skate real slow, but also careful.

Ice looked impressive with her slow progress of her skating technique. “Not bad, not bad. Now Suzy, go a little faster now.” She complied and now she's getting ahead of him.

Ice picks up the pace. “Okay, that's good. Now see if you can do it under pressure with more speed.” He tested her.

Suzy skidded her shoes to a faster rate, she yelled out being thrilled now with the cold breeze hitting her face to the point it blew her hoodie off of her head as she went faster.

Ice's lighthearted smile was replaced with a small concern when seeing her increasingly speeding up.

“Uh, Suzy? I think you should slow down!” He called out but the stubborn girl was so high with her thrills she kept skidding and skidding at a very fast rate that's beyond her capability especially with how inexperienced she still was.

Ice quickened his pace to catch up with her. “Suzy, wait up!! Suzy!”

But it's too late, she pushed her luck and she clumsily slipped on the ice. She cried in pain when she hit her head on the frozen surface and her back slid just a few inches to the grassy surface.

His eyes widened and the inner overprotective dad went into overdrive. “SUZY!!!”

He slid his feet to approach her and came to a full stop when he reached to her side and knelt down next to the injured girl. Not only was she whining over the pain, but Ice could see a gash on her forehead that she held it with her hand, but it wasn't enough to stop the bleeding from slipping through her palm.

Ice shuddered at that sight as he stuttered. “You're…you're bleeding! Come on!” He helped her up from the icy surface, panicking over her injury but kept his composure as he finally settled her down next to a tree.

Ice double checked her forehead and also saw small tears formed in her eyes. Poor girl, even though she's trying to hide it to keep her mean girl act. Still stubborn as usual, that she wouldn't even admit that she's hurting.

He changed back to normal and doing so reverted her shoes into their ordinary design. He reached down his small satchel for a few medical supplies.

“Suzy…” he spoke up as she forced her eyes open. “Just still okay, girl? You need this.” He ripped the small box open for the bandage. “Just stay still…” he carefully tended her wound despite the sharp pain she felt when he did. Thank goodness she wasn't too stubborn to resist.

“There, finished.” He heavily sighed in relief that she's okay, for now.

Suzy took deep breaths to ease herself. “Thank you.” She said, “And I'm sorry I ignored you earlier, I guess it went over my head when I got the hang of ice skating.” She groaned as she fanned her face with her hands to dry the tears away. “Gosh, I hate being sappy and all that junk.”

“It's okay,” he replied but with a stern look. “And that is why you should've listened to me. When I told you to slow down, you should.”

Suzy sheepishly giggled. “I know. I swear I won't do that again. It's just that I really needed to learn this so the next time I come back there, I'll be skating like a pro, and they'd all ‘What?!’ And I'll be like ‘in your face, jerkass!’”

“Stubborn as usual that you'd never let things slide for getting in your way.” Boboiboy said dryly.

“What can I say? It's just me after all.” She shrugged it off.

Boboiboy paused for a bit. “I know, but I know the real you is also a nice person deep down. But it's because of your attitude that makes everyone in school see you as a bad person.”

“But if you know me that well, then you should also know that I don't give a damn about what others think of me, except if it's the people I care about and are nice to me. My mom, my grandparents, even  you guys." She frowned. "But sometimes I get a little lonely when all of you are always in space."

Boboiboy understands where she's coming. “It's alright, I get that. But Suzy, even if we're always up there while you stayed down here, don't ever think that we'd ever forget you, not even me, okay?"

Suzy smiled at his act of kindness. “Like how you were forgetful with your camping trips from that time?" She playfully asked him, giving him a very rough nudge in the shoulder.

Boboiboy giggled. “Still jerkish as usual, Mary. For reminding me that like you know better."

“Oh shut up, Oboi."

And since they're done, they decided to call it a day, well not after Boboiboy thaws the pond. But she isn't done with her practice, and Suzy will make sure to become really better at it than earlier.
