Work Header

A Ro-To-To-To-Touching Group of Electronics

Summary:

Haruka decided to find a way to save electricity in her house, and it worked terribly well! ... ALMOST fully well. On top of that, she found herself forming a bond towards the root of her electricity-saving methods, and Saki can't help but be enamored by them, too...

Work Text:

"Haruka-chan! You left your door unlocked!!! If you're not answering, I'm gonna come in, in like ten seconds!"

"Ten! Nine! Eight... Bah, who's got time to count?!?!"

The door swung open, and Tenma Saki immediately walked through the doorstep and into the house of her beloved one and only, Kiritani Haruka. "HARUKAAA!!! Where are y-- WAAAH!!"

Is that a sentient lawn mower?! With eyes, and a MOUTH?!?! Moving on its own?!?!?! WITHOUT BEING PLUGGED IN?!?!?!?!

"S-Saki-chan! I'm so sorry, I was busy trying to take care of something--! NO, Heat, please stay still!!!" Haruka's voice rung out from deeper into the house, and, eventually, she was scrambling to get out and go meet Saki. Though Saki was happy to see her, she was almost immediately more horrified by the FLYING MICROWAVE, ALSO WITH EYES AND A MOUTH. "H-HARUKA!!! WHAT IS THAT?!?! AND, IN FACT, WHAT ARE THESE?!?!"

It took awhile to calm her down. Even though they were girlfriends, this was unlike anything Saki had ever seen before, even in the wild world of Pokémon, and it wasn't easy for Haruka to calm her down (though, admittedly, with how shocked she initially was, Haruka also felt that it was less hard than she thought it'd be). As for the flying microwave, it was still flying around, and especially floating around both Haruka and Saki, seemingly interested in the latter newcomer. But, eventually, Haruka had no choice but to threaten it to stand down with her Empoleon, who was ready to unleash a strong Hydro Pump.

(It was a bluff. Haruka could never hurt any of her companions...)

"O-Okay... I'm calm now... s-sorry about that! I g-guess I was just worried when you didn't answer the door immediately, and so I barged in, only to bump into a bunch of possessed electronics... and, even when I saw you, I still couldn't shake off the shock...!" Still, Saki was now much more relieved to know that Haruka is okay. However, her shock and fear were now converted to pure curiosity and wonder. Just what are these things, she thought? Now that she got a closer look at the flying microwave and the sentient (INDOORS?!) lawn mower, they did look pretty cute and adorable! Still a bit weird, but very adorable! "S-So, just what are these things...?"

"I'm so sorry I worried you, Saki. But I'm okay, now, I promise." She hugged and kissed her loving girlfriend, being sure to comfort her as much as possible, even if she was calmer now. The physical comfort and reassurance only made Saki feel even better; her girlfriend knew just what to do to make her feel nice! When Haruka processed the question in her head, she sighed, not even knowing where to start, or how to even be explaining all of this to her... "Where do I even begin... ah, I know a simple way. Can you take out your Pokédex?" Once Saki did as such, Haruka took out her's as well, and she began transmitting data over to her girlfriend's Dex.

Once Saki had received the data, she saw the new Pokémon show up on her screen, as well as its name. "Woah... Rotom...?"

Its electric-like body can enter some kinds of machines and take control in order to make mischief.

Saki looked at the picture of the Rotom now in her dex, then back at the lawn mower and the microwave Rotoms, and her glance kept shifting between them. "Hmm... they don't look exactly the same, but their eyes, and that weird... aura-like thing, around them? And the fact that they're also orange? The 'aura' isn't the same color, but... huh. Is this what it looks like when they've possessed a machine?"

"Hehe, you catch on quick. You've really gotten smarter over time, Saki-chan..."

"Hey, you can compliment me later!!! ... but, uh, thank you, hehe..."

"Mhm! But, uh, back to your question... yes, indeed. However, these machines... these motors, actually, we should call them. They're a bit unique... in fact, they were made specifically for Rotom. For the most part, they function in the same way, but the Rotom are able to even change their typings and learn new moves just by possessing them."

"Woah! Wait... wait a second, Rotom backwards is--!"

"Yeah, yeah, we can get to that, later. Right now, I should actually introduce you to the rest of them, so that you don't get jumpscared by them again later." Haruka stood up and gently pulled on Saki's hand, who responded by smiling and nodding, standing up after her. "Right!!! I'm... I'm excited to see the rest of them!"

"Alright... let's start with the two you've already met. This is Rotom-Heat; I simply call them with the suffix that each of them have, so just Heat is fine. It's actually really convenient to have around, as, well... it's a portable microwave! Being able to heat up my food almost anywhere I go is a genuine blessing. However, all of the Rotom are a bit mischievous, and, so... it can be a bit hard to properly take care of them, as they like fooling around a bit."

Unbeknownst to Haruka, Saki almost fully zoned out after just hearing 'portable microwave'. Imagine how helpful that would've been to her life...! But, she did listen to at least the last part of that, and almost immediately understood how hard it probably was for Haruka to take care of these hooligans. She giggled a bit, but then patted Heat gently. "It's sooooooooooo cute~!!!"

"Mhm; I think so, too. Oh, I should've told you earlier about my early days with dealing with it... It was tough for me to figure out the optimal way to microwave food with this thing, as it operates differently from other usual microwaves. For example, I once thought that maybe there was a way to instantaneously heat up food, and so, I tried to... well..." Haruka threw in a frozen Hot Pocket that she had been holding into Heat's mouth. "Heat, use Overheat!!!"

Saki suddenly stepped backwards. "O-OVERHEAT--?!?!"

Haruka held her girlfriend tightly and stepped backwards, as Heat flew backwards and let out an extreme surge of heat that would've incinerated any Pokémon weak to Fire-type moves around it in an instant. Then, a ding! played from it, and it opened its mouth to reveal a charred Hot Pocket. Even the wrapper was practically ashes... Once Saki took a look at the result of the Overheat, her eyes widened a bit. "Oh."

"Yeah... that was my initial reaction, too. Moving on..."

"Oh, oh, before I do! Time for their usual playdate~!!!" Saki took out a PokéBall and threw it down, sending out her Gastrodon. It slid over to Haruka's Empoleon, and the two began to hang out and play around together. "Hehe, look at them go~! Do you think they're lovers, like usss~?"

"Lovers...?" Actually, Gastrodon and Empoleon DO share an egg group together... "Hm, actually... I can see the possibility." She smiled at the thought of their Pokémon sharing the same, loving relationship that they had for a bit. "But, moving on for real, now." She turned around to face the lawn mower, which was now standing still. "This is Rotom-Mow, my lawn mower. I often keep it inside so that it doesn't get affected by the weather conditions outside, but aside from that, well... I don't think I need to tell you what a lawn mower does, aside from Mow usually being much faster than your usual lawn mower." Haruka knelt down and patted Mow, then gently pulled Saki towards the kitchen next.

"Woah!" Saki's eyes sparkled with wonder as she now spotted the very conspicuous Rotom refrigerator, as well as the Rotom fan that was floating around.

"There's Rotom-Frost and Rotom-Fan. Again, I don't think I really need to tell you what any of these appliances does, but, like Heat, it's always convenient having a portable refrigerator. The only problem is that sometimes, even when I place foods in just the cooling parts of the fridge, Frost ends up freezing it anyways, so it takes more time to defrost and prepare the food that I had only meant to refrigerate... As for Fan, well... technically, portable fans do already exist, but do those fans have the ability to fly around you and cool you in specific spots without you needing to lift a finger? Hehe... I didn't think so..." Haruka crossed her arms and closed her eyes, smiling a bit smugly as she did. Was she showing off...?

And boy, it was working, because Saki was really impressed. "THAT'S SO COOL!!!"

Silence filled the air for a moment.

"... S-Saki, was that a pun...?"

"What? No! Wait... cool... the fridge... Oh My God."

Haruka giggled lightly, then took Saki to the back room with the washing machine and the dryer. "Unfortunately, my dryer is still normal, but as for the washing machine... well, here's Rotom-Wash!" The washing machine Rotom, who had been sleeping, suddenly woke up at the mention of its name, and it smiled at the presence of the two. "Good afternoon to you too, Wash." Haruka smiled and patted it as well. "While I do still have to supply any detergents and things like that, Wash helps me save on both electricity and water. And, the last one... should be around here, somewhere..."

And as if on cue, a regular Rotom, not possessing any of the appliances, suddenly flew into the room, floating around the two happily and even faster than Heat. "Ah, there you are, Rotom!"

"OH!!! That's the Rotom I saw from the Pokédex!!! So, this is what it looks like when it isn't possessing anything, right...?" Saki stared at it in wonder as it flew around her.

"Correct. I didn't have a sixth motor that was like the others, but I also didn't want to abandon it, so it's just a friend."

"Man, all of this is just... it's so amazing, Haruka!!! The Rotoms, their motors, and, just... THEY'RE SO ADORABLE!!! You really continue to impress me again and again...!" Saki hugged her girlfriend tightly, giggling and snuggling her head into her chest.

"Hehe, well, it's nothing all that amazing..." Haruka picked her up and walked back into the living room, setting Saki onto the couch and sitting down next to her. "I didn't procure the motors by myself... they were actually family inheritances. I didn't even realize what they did outside of their usual, intended properties, at least until my first Rotom possessed one of them. And, well... I really quickly got the idea of saving on electricity by using Rotoms instead of having to plug my appliances in. So, I went out and tried to catch as many Rotoms as I could, and believe me, it wasn't easy..."

"Then THAT'S the amazing part! You're so hard-working, Haruka; you get an idea and you're set on driving it to fruition as soon and as best as you can!" Was Saki easily impressed? Probably. Did it make Haruka any less happy that she was easily impressed? Absolutely not. To receive compliments from her girlfriend for even the smallest of things -- though hunting for five more Rotoms was certainly not easy and small -- was always nice, and it gave her a warmth in her heart that she enjoyed feeling.

"Hehe, thank you... it's definitely a chore to take care of all six of them, you know. Like the Dex says, they're mischievous at heart, and often like doing their own things... but I'm really grateful for them. I don't see them as just tools for saving electricity at my own convenience and leisure; I still see them as my friends, and if they ever got hurt from me using them like this, then I'd stop immediately. But they seem to be really happy to be serving me as my portable appliances... I even tried to play with them more often so that it would really seem like I didn't regard them as just mere tools, but I think they were dead-set on really wanting to help me out like this that they didn't even want to play; they just kept helping me out! Of course, after some convincing, I was able to end up playing with them and my other Pokémon, but... yeah. I love them just as much as I love all of my other Pokémon."

"Well, I know I'd be happy if I had a set of my own Rotom that were so, SO willing to help me out like this!" Saki giggled.

"Well..." Haruka stayed silent for just a moment, then spoke again. "We WILL be living together in the future, will we not? They'll be helping you out just as much as they've helped me all this time."

"..."

"Saki-chan?"

Saki was processing what Haruka just said, and when she fully did, she found herself becoming a blushing mess, covering her face with her hands. "H-Haruka-chan...! You can't just say that so casually...! Y-You and me... l-living together...! I'm not ready for marriage...!!!"

Oh dear.

Haruka couldn't help but giggle a bit. "Isn't marriage still a long way off for the both of us...?" She leaned over and gently kissed Saki's forehead, patting her head. "I really do want to live with you, Saki-chan. And I'm sure that the rest of the Rotom would be just as happy to help you as they've helped me. Of course, it's a little too early to be discussing stuff like this in regards to the future, but I like to dream about it, you know...? And I'm sure you do, too..."

And of course, Haruka was right. Saki did dream of that. She wanted a future where the two of them were together, and knowing that she wished for the same thing made the blonde eternally happy, even if it was already fairly obvious. And on top of that, knowing that the cute and adorable Rotom would be with them too, along with the rest of their Pokémon... oh, it made her excited!!! She used to be fearful that a life with just Haruka would still be dull, boring, and lonely (though she was still willing to take that risk just to be with her), but ever since even before they got together, the two had made so many wonderful Pokémon friends. She knew that the shared life that the two had ahead of them was going to be a VERY lively one.

"M-Mhm...! I really, genuinely can't wait for that day, Haruka-chan! ... no, seriously, I cannot!!! Please, god, just MARRY ME RIGHT NOW, DANG IT!!!" Saki grabbed at Haruka's shirt and pulled her in closer, practically pleading with all of her everything.

And Haruka simply giggled, as she could only hug Saki. "In due time, Saki-chan. I love you."

"I... I... I... I love you, too!!!" And then, they kissed. It wasn't a clean, and proper kiss; it was a pretty messy one all things considered, but who cares? Sloppy makeouts were the best make-out sessions, Saki thought!
