“Hurry up, Dad, take any longer and Monty will think we decided to come.”
“Did you have to bring all this luggage? We are only staying for the weekend.” Jules hadn’t been quite sure what she needed to bring, the Grand Glacier Hotel was in a snowy area, so she figured it was better to be prepared. Her father, Midas, of course was set with the task of carrying it all.
“Doesn’t he have a bell hop or something, this is ridiculous!” Jules only rolled her eyes and continued inside, seeing Montague at the desk. Waving, she ran up to him excitedly, “Sorry we took so long. My Dad is so slow sometimes.”
Montague saw Midas struggling and quickly took some of the suitcases, “Oh, mon ami, let me assist you. You and your daughter are my guests! Both of you have separate rooms; things have been quite busy on Helios lately, so the two of you should relax.”
Midas grumbled, but followed Montague and his daughter to their rooms. The Frenchman helped them both settle, informing them of the activities around the hotel as well as when dinner would be served.
“That’s your room over there, isn’t it?” Midas narrowed his eyes at Montague, causing the other man to chuckle, “Indeed it is. Is there a problem with that?” With arms crossed, Midas shook in head at the Frenchman who was purposely playing up the naiveté. “I hope you’re not attempting to try and woo my daughter. The French have quite a reputation. In fact, you do specifically.”
Montague put on a clearly mock hurt expression, “Monsieur Midas, I don’t quite understand what you are implying. I am a perfect gentleman and simply wish to provide you and your daughter an enjoyable weekend. I have no intentions of courting your daughter, rest assured.”
“I’m not convinced.”
“Then perhaps you’d join me in my study, to keep a fatherly eye on me? That way Jules can partake in the hotel on her own without either of us tagging along.”
Midas sighed, “Fine.” Montague led him to a room adjacent from the hotel rooms; it almost appeared to be a small library. Books and papers were scattered across a large desk, which Montague sat down at. He gestured for Midas to take a seat across from him.
“In truth, I was more interested in speaking with you, Midas. You’re such a fascinating individual. I have spent several years researching you.”
“And why would you do a thing like that?”
Montague let out a small laugh, “A man who can turn whatever he touches into pure gold. Money, power, and of course becoming legend and myth. For someone like myself, it’s all very alluring.” Montague held out his hand, a diamond slowly forming in the palm, “I can only mimic what you can achieve, and only with the necklace that I wear.”
Midas didn’t speak at first, closing his eyes to collect his thoughts, “You talk of my powers in such a positive manner, I do not think you quite comprehend how dangerous it is. Or the concentration to actually control it is. One slip up, one moment of being lackadaisical and I can cause great harm.” To say he was annoyed at Montague’s simplification of his powers was an understatement.
Taking notice of Midas’s tone, Montague shifted his stance, “Monsieur Midas, I not trying to offend. I know of the hardships you face.”
“I don’t think you do…”
“Then show me.”
“Excuse me?”
Montague stood up, moving towards Midas, “Show me exactly what you can do. Let the control go, for but a moment. I willingly offer myself.” Midas’s eyes went wide, “You’re insane. You actually want me to turn you into a gold statue!? I always knew the French were crazy, but you are something else entirely!”
Shaking his head, Montague leaned over to the frantic man, grabbing him by the hands and pulling him into a kiss. A surprise kiss usually meant a temporary loss of control. Midas quickly pulled back, however, causing him to bump into the chair and topple over. “You absolute fool! What the Hell do you think you were do-“ Midas stopped, glancing up at Montague who had a huge smirk on his face.
“Why are you not gold?”
Montague pointed to his necklace, “I had a theory that my necklace would protect me from your golden touch. I wanted to test it out. Though, I knew you often controlled your ability, so simply asking and trying to explain wouldn’t sway you. So, I felt a surprise attack was the better approach.”
“You had no idea it would actually work!”
“True, but I’m not about to let fear or death stop me from learning more about you, or my own new abilities.”
Midas huffed, “I don’t know if I appreciate being used as a test subject. Don’t ever do that again…”
Montague moved in once again, closing the distance, “You have my word, beau.” He spoke in a hushed whisper causing Midas to shiver, “I wouldn’t be opposed to another kiss…or touching you…again.” Montague raised his eyebrows, “Does the idea of losing control with me entice you?” Midas answered with pulling Montague into another kiss, his golden hands now all over the other man. The freedom was intoxicating.
“Let’s move this to my room, amour.”
---
No sooner had the door closed Midas was tearing off Montague’s jacket and shirt. The craving to actually touch skin with his hands, to actually touch it. The Frenchman was skinny, but still muscular and well toned; he remained still as Midas got acquainted with his chest and arms. Montague reached up and ran his fingers through the other’s hair, leaning in for a kiss. Midas returned it, his breathing heavy and very clearly flustered.
“Would you like to try something else?” Montague asked. Midas wasn’t coherent enough to reply with words and simply nodded in agreement. At this point, he had to trust in Montague. Midas was led to the bed, with Montague propping himself along the headboard. “Here, sit with your back against my chest. Skin to skin.” Midas did as he was told, removing his shirt and getting into the requested position.
“Now, let’s see if I can pass my powers through to you, a diamond created in a golden hand.” Montague moved his hand, his fingers gingerly tracing the tattoos of the other man, before stopping at the shimmering gold. “Midas, let it all go. For only a moment. Relax.”
He obeyed, his tension melting away and submitting to the other. His eyes closed and he relished in the warmth. Midas then felt it, an intense heat generating from his hand. Forcing himself to look, he gasped, in his hand was a small floating diamond. Nothing as extraordinary as what he saw Montague create, but he still marveled at it.
“I take back everything I’ve said or thought about you, Montague. Your powers, they’re utterly breathtaking.”
“You can call me Monty. And thank you, a rare compliment from Midas himself. I’ll cherish it forever.”
“Ah, there it is. The sarcasm and wit. Watch it, you could be killing the mood.”
“I know for a fact I’m not.” Montague grinned, making Midas blush. Midas returned his attention back to the diamond, it suddenly turning to dust. “Wait, did I do something wrong?”
“No. Unfortunately, I still have limits to my abilities. I can create diamonds, for protective uses or tricks, but it never lasts. All become dust.” Montague sighed and Midas shifted to face him, “I’m still impressed.” He gently kissed Montague, “May we continue, Monty?” The Frenchman smirked at his nickname, moving to be on top, “As you wish. One can never have enough gold.”
“Diamonds are a man’s best friend…”
They both smiled at one another, kissing to seal the deal.
