Swing With Me

Summary:

Zoro has a late night visitor and handles it well.

(Just a small drabblish idea I had the other night)

Completely safe for Netflix viewers who don't want anime/manga spoilers.

Work Text:

"Hey, Zoro. Can I sleep next to you?"

Half asleep Zoro murmurs yes before realizing he isn't dreaming but by the time his head catches up with his captain's odd request, his hammock is swinging and the gangly teen is climbing on top of him. There is no room to lay side by side and the extreme rocking forces Zoro to act. He instinctively clutches both sides of the hammock and rides the temporary upset. His new position keeps them from falling but leaves him open for Luffy to stretch out half on top of him. The crown of his head slots perfectly beneath Zoro's chin, and Zoro closes his arms around him like a fly trap.

"You couldn't sleep?" He grumbles.

Luffy's hot breath tickles his collarbone and raises goose bumps on his skin. "I didn't want to sleep alone."

Zoro isn't the type that opens up and he's been lucky the other Strawhats respect that so he's not about to poke someone else's bear. It's twice as likely Luffy crawled into Zoro's bed for another reason and it doesn't take a leap of logic; only a bit of rearranging, for Zoro to put two and two together and notice Luffy's cold to the touch.

"Where's your blanket?"

"I'm right here." He mumbles into Zoro's chest. And he IS doing a fantastic job of being a blanket, but it's leaving his back exposed to the chilly cabin and his first mate won't have that. With a huff Zoro rolls onto his side and pulls him tight against his chest, trapping Luffy's cold hands between them. His fingers splay across Zoro's skin seeking that heat, and his sigh of contentment moments later is all Zoro needs to know he's solved his captain's dilemma.

"Hey Zoro?"

Zoro rumbles his acknowledgement, losing interest in talking as sleep starts to beckon.

"Thank you."

He reaches up and flicks Luffy behind his ear, startling a small yelp out of him. "Shuddup and go to sleep."

Luffy does just that barely a moment later, impressing his first mate at the speed and ease in which he does it. Zoro however is not far behind, and the two of them sleep late into the morning snuggled close and snoring soundly.

No one has the heart to wake them.
