Harry ran around, cleaning up the wrapping paper from the kids’ various Christmas gifts. Draco sat on the sofa cuddling with Albus and Scorpius, who sat on either side of him, talking over each other and gushing about their favourite gifts. Lily was showing off her new princess outfit to James, who was indulging her squealing and prancing around. He was wearing his own new black leather jacket, clearly feeling all kinds of cool.
Harry slowed his cleaning, watching his family. Draco smiled at the boys’ ramblings and wild gestures. Lily waved her scepter and James bowed before her. She ushered him up and motioned for him to turn, and then it was James’ turn to show off his attire: spinning around and holding out the sides of his jacket for fullest effect.
Harry snorted, drawing Draco’s attention to himself. He watched Draco turn his eyes in the direction Harry was looking, spying James’ display. Draco caught Harry’s eye again and smiled his fondest smile. Harry’s own answering smile was just as soft.
Their Christmas progressed with visits from family and friends and more gifts all around. It was a long and fulfilling day, and by its end, Harry was exhausted.
Luckily, the kids had also thoroughly tired themselves out, and putting them to bed was the easiest it had ever been, after sugar and screaming and scampering about.
Harry came back downstairs to find Draco standing in the doorway to their living room, soft skin illuminated by the tree’s lights. Practically glowing. Harry sidled up to him, wrapping his arms around his husband.
Draco nuzzled into the embrace before pointing up.
“Look. Mistletoe.”
Harry smiled at the plant that was certainly not there before. Still, he didn’t hesitate to lean down and capture his husband’s lips.
“Merry Christmas, love.”
