Work Text:

“Alright, everyone just look at me, that’s right,” the photographer instructed kindly.

“I immediately regret this decision,” Sherlock groused. “Why did I agree to this?”

“Oh I think it’s lovely!” Mrs Hudson said, adjusting Rosie on her lap. “A priceless memory to cherish. And it’ll be such a lovely surprise for John!”

“Just smile. I really need you to smile right now,” the photographer added, ducking back behind the camera.

“I am smiling,” Sherlock said through gritted teeth.

Molly made a little huff. “Could have fooled me.”

“Ok, now how about one with the couple and their goddaughter, hm?”

Sherlock and Molly stared slack jawed at the photographer, their ears turning red as Mrs. Hudson got up and handed over Rosie.

“I’ll just get out of the way then” she said with a laugh and a little wink, going to stand out of the way.

“Um, we’re not actually- I mean, not that we can’t take a photo together anyway, but-“

“It’s fine, Molly, let’s just take the photograph. It’s not worth explaining,” Sherlock said under his breath as he moved over to the stool next to Molly and straightened Rosies dress which she was continually trying to grab and shove into her aggressively teething mouth.

They leaned in, Molly placing her hand on Rosie’s back as they smiled for the camera.

“That’s just lovely! Right, I think we’ve got what we need,” the photographer stated happily, coming around from the camera to shake hands and explain how he’d be in touch in one to two weeks with the final options.

As they made their way to the studio door, Sherlock hung back momentarily, dropping his voice as he spoke quickly to the photographer.

“I’d like to put in an additional, separate order for that last shot, please.”

“Ahh, I see!” The man nodded knowingly. “A surprise gift for the missus.”

Again, Sherlock decided it simply wasn’t worth the time to explain. Besides, who was he to say what the future might hold?

“Precisely,” Sherlock agreed with a little smirk. “For the missus.”
