“LASER EYE BEAM!”
“WAGH,” cried Gema as he was fried to a crisp.
“Hmph, that will teach you to interrupt my beauty sleep nyo,” grumbled a groggy Dejiko as she fell back asleep.
For most, getting burnt to a crisp would be a rather unpleasant experience, but for Gema, it was just another day watching over Dejiko.
Yes, for the past 10 or so years this had been his life. If he wasn’t getting roped into her latest hair-brained scheme, he was instead getting fried by eye beams, kicked, punched, launched out of cannons, and taking all other manner of abuse. All this suffering just to take care of a bratty princess. And honestly? He was beginning to get sick of it.

“Hey Gema, I take it Dejiko woke up on the wrong side of the bed again,” asked Kiyoshi as Gema rolled into the room.
“When is she ever on the right side gema,” he grumbled in response
“Honestly, with everything that you go through, maybe it’s about time you took a vacation.”
Gema thought about it for a moment. He really couldn’t remember a time when he hadn’t been with Dejiko, especially once they had crash-landed on Earth. Perhaps some time off was in order.
He’d have to think it over a bit more.

Several laser eye beams later and Gema decided, he desperately needed a vacation. He’d talk to the Queen about it the next day.

Gema sat in front of the TV, feeling very nervous. Yes he had known the Queen for a long while, but he had never requested something like this from her, he wasn’t sure how she’d respond.
After what felt like ages, the TV finally turned on. There was the Queen, as jolly as ever.
“Hello there Gema, it’s so nice to see you again! Have you gotten bigger? Honestly, I think you get a little rounder every time I see you.”
Gema just stayed silent, her majesty always did have a way with words, but very little in the form of tact.
“Anyway, what did you want to talk to me about?”
“Well, y-your majesty, for the past 10 years or so, I’ve been watching Dejiko nonstop, and I was thinking that I could use some time off gema.”
The Queen pondered. “Hmm, I suppose with Chocola living with those Omochi siblings and her now being enrolled in princess school, your position watching over her is rather pointless,” she replied.
Once again, Gema remained silent. If there was anyone you could come to for brutal honesty, it’d be the Queen.
“Yes, I think it’d be fine if Chocola was without you.”
“Oh thank you your majesty gema!”
“I’ll send for someone to take you back to Planet Di Gi Charat so you can return to your duties at the castle at once.”
Wait, what did she mean by that? He was supposed to be taking time off to relax. “Return to my duties at the castle gema?”
“Yes, since Chocola no longer needs someone watching over her on earth, you can come back to live on Di Gi Charat.”
“W-Wait,” cried Gema, “Your majesty, that’s not what I meant gema!”
Too late, the screen had turned black.
Gema was feeling uncertain, while the Queen was right in that there wasn’t much point for him to be sticking around on Earth, he still felt like he couldn’t just straight up leave Dejiko behind. He decided to talk it over with her once she was out of class to see how she felt on the matter.

As usual, Dejiko was leaving class with her group of friends. She was surprised, and rather annoyed, to see Gema waiting for her outside.
“Er, Dejiko, could I talk to you in private for a moment gema?”
“Ugh, do you have to do it right now nyo? We’re about to head over to Usada’s house to do our homework.”
“Well yes, it’s a sort of important matter gema,” he replied, doing his best to talk over Usada’s cries of how her name was Rabi~en~Rose.
“Fine, but make it quick nyo.”
Once the two were a good distance away, Dejiko spoke up. “So what do you want nyo?”
Gema froze up, he wasn’t sure how to properly tell the princess. “Well…I had a chat with the Queen earlier, and er… I might be heading back to Planet Di Gi Charat gema.”
Dejiko quickly smirked, “Pfft, see you around, glad to finally have a deadweight like you gone nyo.”
Gema was hurt. He wasn’t sure why, she was always hurling insults his way, but for some reason, this one really stung. “Oh, you are such a brat! Forget it! I’m glad to be leaving gema!” And he left in a huff.
“Grr…Go ahead! See if I care! I bet you’ll come crawling back in a week, nyo!”
And with that, Dejiko stormed off back to her friends.
“What’d you two talk about nyu,” asked Puchiko when Dejiko got back.
“Yes, Mr. Gema seemed rather annoyed myu,” added Rinna.
“It was nothing, well nothing important anyway nyo. Come on, let's go.”

Well so much for a heartwarming goodbye, although to be fair, Gema wasn’t really sure why he was expecting one in the first place.
He entered the toy shop, still feeling annoyed. Kiyoshi and Yasushi were there to greet him.
“Oh Gema you’re back, did you talk with the Queen about getting a break?”
“Yep, and I’m off to pack my bags gema”
“Oh great! So where are you planning to go?”
“Back to Di Gi Charat, permanently.”
“W-what!? You’re leaving!?”
“Yes, what about our tight-knit family? T.K. Fam for short.”
“Why do you even need to leave in the first place?”
“Well with Dejiko living with you two and now going to Princess School, the Queen came to the conclusion that I was no longer needed on Earth.”
“O-oh, sorry, we didn’t mean to make you lose your job.”
“It’s not a problem gema. Perhaps the Queen is right and that being back on Di Gi Charat would do me some good gema.”
“Ah, well, if you’re ever back on earth, come look for us. You’ll always have a place in the Omocha Toy Shop,” smiled Yasushi.
Gema smiled. Yasushi’s head could sometimes not be in the right place, but his heart always was.

Soon enough the day came and it was time for Gema to leave.
He was pleasantly surprised to see some familiar faces there to see him off. In addition to the Omocha siblings, Gran and Gramps Ongoru were there too with Puchiko.
Unsurprisingly, Dejiko was nowhere to be seen.
“So long Gema, you were sometimes tolerable to hang around with nyu,” said Puchiko. She always had a certain way with words.
“Take this, it’s a special gift from us,” said Gramps, passing a large bag to Gema.
Inside it was a ton of baked goods! Gema wasn’t sure what to say.
“We figured you should take back a little something from Earth on your way back, especially if you get hungry.”
“And we felt that we had to repay you somehow from hearing about the great job you did watching over little Puchiko back on Di Gi Charat,” added Gran.
Gema was nearly moved to tears, he honestly now wanted to stay in the shopping district. But he had made a promise, well not really a promise, to the Queen to return to his duties.
As the group walked away, Gema took one last good, long look at the shopping district, the area he had once called home. However, it was now time to return to Planet Di Gi Charat and start the next exciting chapter in his life.
