Work Text:
It was a warm and calm evening, when the dark van pulled in at the petrol station. Doors were opened and quickly closed. Steps sounded on the tarmac.
Heads were turned and gasps were heard when the other customers realized who was walking past them.
The young woman’s red hair was blowing in the gentle evening breeze. Though her face was hidden behind the hat she had pulled down, there was not doubt who she and her companion were. Their faces were plastered all over the town:
Wanted: Scarlett McCain & Albert Browne – Dead or Alive
“Everybody freeze!” rang the voice of the young man through the stations small shop.
“Nobody move!” the young woman shouted, drawing two guns from her belt.
“Put the money in the bag!” He threw said bag to the old man behind the counter.
“Or we will shoot!” his companion added, turning around on her heel to make sure the customers were complying with their orders.
“Empty out the vaults and me and my doll will be on our way.” this line earned him a dirty look from his partner and a puff from the elderly man behing the counter, but without a further word they proceeded.
Suddenly and alarm sounded throughout the store. The two outlaws looked up, he grabbed the bag while she made sure that they had a clear path to the door.
“You’ll never takes us alive!” She shouted.
“We swore that death will do us part.” her dark haired partner added “They call our crimes a work of art by the way!”
“Albert!” The young woman motioned to him to hurry.
“Okay, okay.” he said and followed her outside.
They could already hear the sirens approaching. The two of them looked around frantically.
Four shots echoed across the square in front of the shop.
The old shopkeeper had stepped out of the door and was pointing his smoking gun at the two of them.
The two collapsed on the ground, twitching and gasping, while a police car drove round the corner.
Blood dripping from their lips the two outlaws reached out for each other, embracing each other for one last time, before they lay completely still.
An elderly woman with short gray hair got out of the police van, looking down at the infamous outlaws who had kept the country on tenterhooks.
The passers-by and customers who had taken cover now came out to take a look at the dead criminals. But the police officer shooed them away.
“Move along! Move along! They are clearly dead. Nothing to see here. Gosh, this is work I am not looking forward too.”
Just as she finished the sentence an ambulance arrived.
An elderly paramedic pulled out a stretcher. The police officer helped him to load the body of the young man into the ambulance, soon followed by the body of the young woman, who seemed to give them a little more trouble.
Muffled curses could be heard before the ambulances doors were closed and the vehicle left the place followed by the police car.
At the floor of the ambulance Albert slowly opened his eyes. Though there had really been not reason to keep them shut, ever since the engin started.
The bullets had been blanks, though the fall to the floor had hurt his behind a little.
Scarlett was already up, trying to get the fake blood out of her coat with some wipes.
“Did you really have to be so overly dramatic?” She asked him, when he got up and sat down next to her.
“I was just being in character.” he smirked.
“Well, better get out of character then. We should arrive at the meeting point soon. Shiva, who would have thought that dying would be this exhaustive and messy.”
