Learning Process

Summary:

Meilin shifted uncomfortably on the floor in Lenori's office.

Lenori poured two cups of tea, "What did you want to tell me, Meilin?"

"I think I've been having prophetic dreams," Meilin answered immediately. She didn't care to sugarcoat the truth.

The calm look on Lenori's face faded, "What is happening in these dreams?"

The dream was so distinct in Meilin's mind she didn't even stop to think. She described seeing Gerathon with thin strands of bile dripping from her fangs. Attached to the strands of bile was Meilin. The bile was wrapped tightly around her arms, making her look like a puppet.

"What does this mean?" Meilin asked when she finished describing the dream. "Will Gerathon somehow come back?"

Lenori gave Meilin a look of pity, "Meilin... I don't think that was a prophecy."

"What could it possibly be then?" Annoyance coated Meilin's words. She didn't tell Lenori about this dream just to be told she was wrong about the whole thing.

Lenori looked at Meilin gently, "You had a nightmare, Meilin. A nightmare brought on by trauma."

Notes:

Sorry for the short chapter! Also, yes I am starting another fic, and yes it is about Meilin again. (She deserves the world damnit)

Chapter 1: Realization

Chapter Text

Meilin blinked in shock. It’s not that she was shocked about having trauma. That’d probably be one of the least shocking things about her. Meilin was shocked that the dream wasn’t a prophecy. It seemed so… real.

“It was... Just a nightmare..?” Meilin asked in shock.

Lenori gave a sad smile, “I’m afraid so.” She traced her finger around the rim of her cup, “Have you had sleepless nights, trouble falling asleep, oversleeping, change in appetite, feelings of guilt, or trouble concentrating?”

Meilin thought about the question, “I think… I’ve experienced all of that…”

Lenori nodded, “These are common symptoms of depression.”

“What do I do to fix this?” Meilin asked.

Lenori sighed, “Sadly, depression is not something one can fix. It’s a lifelong struggle.”

Meilin’s shoulders sagged, “There’s nothing I can do then?”

Lenori shook her head, “I didn’t say that. Some things you could do would be to walk outside, take deep breaths, meditate, stretch, go to counseling, and talk to others,” Lenori smiled, “Writing down your feelings could help as well. I can give you a journal to write in.”

Meilin nodded, “Thank you for your help, Lenori.” She stood up and took the journal Lenori held in her hand. As she turned to leave Lenori spoke up.

“If you need anyone to talk to don’t hesitate to come here again!”

Meilin nodded with a small smile. She was glad to have Lenori there, but she doubted she’d need to come back. There was no need to talk about her feelings when she had a plethora of other things to do.

Thanks for reading! I'll try to make a longer chapter next time, but fair warning, I don't upload on a schedule.
