Summary:

Evan and Pandora are twins who live in the Northern part of Italy. Their parents have taken in a scholar student for a few months at a time since they were younger. A British man was chosen for this summer and so far Evan hates his guts. I can't write summaries so this is all you get.

Notes:

I do not know French because I am not smart enough for that. I am a sad fifteen year old girl. It’s all Google translate please forgive me. I had previously abounded this story as I had my GCSE's and needed to revise for them. Well I fucked them up so now I have no future so I'm just going to write till insanity.

I am updating this book as I can't write as we can tell but I want to get better so that is why I'm posting. Advice is much appreciated. I haven't updated any others apart from the first one so bare with me.

Slow updates. Once a week or every 2-3 weeks. These are not long chapters at all.

Chapter Text

Some time during Evans' lifetime the Rosier household decided to take in scholar students for a few months at a time to help them out when studying abroad. His sister Pandora loved this, she always loved meeting new people from all around the world to learn about their cultures. She was a very sociable and curious girl. Evan however did not enjoy this and had made it quite clear since the start, but after the third scholar student had stayed he became somewhat okay with it, though he did not enjoy it.

This was one of the many times he did not enjoy it.

He was awoken by an ecstatic Pandora jumping on top of him screaming of pure joy. The new scholar student was to be arriving today. Evan tries his best to get Pandora to get off of him and out of his room so he can at least get another hour or two of sleep before the student arrives. And of course he failed to accomplish this (once again) much to his dismay.

Once she made sure Evan was fully awake she began to run around his room, listing every question she could possibly think of to ask the new tenant. If Evan said he was listening he would be lying. He finds very little enjoyment in anything that involves the scholars, as well as what Britain's butterflies are like (which is what Pandora had begun to rant about now). It’s not that he hates them he just finds them of very little interest, they always had very bland personalities in his opinion. If he could, he would trade any of them for a book.

This had lasted for about an hour till Evan decided he would begin to get ready. He was initially going to just lay inside his room all day and read and play on his keyboard, which lay silently on his desk, and meet the new scholar when dinner began. Pandora had fallen silent now whilst she stared out the window waiting for the arrival. He picked out blue denim shorts and a dark blue shirt from his wooden wardrobe and entered the bathroom that connected to his room and began getting ready for the day.

Pandora was particularly excited for this summer's scholars as they were from the UK. She very much liked the history of the UK since she adored Royal history, she also found the accents very pleasant to listen to. Evan thinks this is mainly because of this red haired girl who came to stay for a single summer when they were fifteen. Their father had a friend who had come to Northern Italy for a year because of his job. His family didn’t want to pack up everything and move countries so they had stayed back in Scotland. So when his family came to visit him, Evans and Pandora's Father invited them to stay for the summer at their house instead of paying for an expensive hotel that could fix global hunger in a week.

The daughter was called Lily. She had dark red wavy hair and pure bright green eyes that created a very lovely contrast when paired. Pandora adored her. Evan didn't get on as well with her as Pandora did due to them having a small disagreement where he had called her a ‘bitchy carrot’. Lily was quite insecure of her hair colour due to frequent insults that were thrown at her while growing up, she didn’t mind as much as she grew older but they still hurt. Pandora had forced Evan to apologise when she heard what had happened, Evan did of course.

Lily and Pandora had become quite close in the very short time span, they were always together and giggling about god knows what. Evan believed that they had something going on but he would never ask that. Pandora could tell him when she wanted too. They had never told anyone of course, but the sneaking off together and the glances that were held a little longer than usual. It was pretty easy to tell.

Evan exited the bathroom after about half an hour when he finished getting ready. Pandora was still in his room but now she was sitting on his bed. “Do you think he will be nice?” She spoke as she twirled the flower ring she was wearing.
“I’m not sure, but even if he isn’t you somehow make everyone become nice. It is truly a gift.” She gave a soft smile in return, before thinking of another question to ask the new arrival. Pandora had spent the last hour talking non stop about everything and anything that came to her mind. Evan didn’t think it was possible to have this much to speak about. Though it was nice to have a small distraction from the fact that his room would be stolen for the summer.

Pandora was in the middle of her sentence when she was cut short by the sound of a car heading towards the house. The burning smile dropped at the realisation of the stranger's arrival. Pandora was the most sociable person that could ever exist in the entire human race but she still became highly nervous when a new scholar arrived. She would be sharing a house with them after all.

“L’usurpateur.” Evan spoke in a whisper towards Pandora to try and cheer her up. In which it did as the burning smile appeared on her face once again. She jumped off the bed and ran towards the window with Evan shortly behind her.

“Professor Rosier,” The young man spoke with a clear London accent and a small smile on his face after he stepped out of the car. He took a few steps heading towards their father to shake hands. “Thank you so much for having me for the summer.”

“The pleasure is all mine Bartemius.” Their father replied back with a reflecting smile. “My goddess you're taller than in the picture.”

“Well, I couldn’t get all of me in the photo. That’s the problem.” They both exchanged laughter as they began walking towards the front door. Evan did agree with this, he was a very tall man. He had seen a glimpse of the photo a few weeks back when he was looking for his father, the photo did not capture him to his full potential and yet he still looked exceptionally good in it. He spoke just before they entered the building. “Call me Barty.”

“Il a l’air confiant.” Evan retorted to his sister with a slight grimace on his face. He always thought those who were highly confident in new situations were slightly obnoxious people. He already had his doubts about the new scholar.

“Je descends.” She spoke in a hushed tone before she jumped off the bed and ran off to the stairs. Evan lingered for a few more seconds staring at the ground where the interaction between the new scholar and his parents took place before running off too and joining them downstairs.

“Hé,” His mother turned around the corner looking for him. “Venez aider Barty à apporter ses affaires dans sa chambre.”

“Pourquoi Pandora ne peut-elle pas le faire?” He retorted back, even more annoyed than before. He walked down the last few steps and stopped in front of his mother trying his best to get out of taking Bartemius' belongings upstairs.

“C’est votre chambre dans laquelle il séjourne. N’est-ce pas?” His mother responded with a growing smirk on her face knowing she had won their little exchangement due to the annoyance that appeared on Evans face in reply. The house contained four bedrooms, one is Pandora's room and the other is their parents room. Evan technically had ‘two’ rooms since he had the room that was connected to the bathroom and the other room was vacant. Though it wasn't technically vacant as Evan had also used that room and has stayed in there from time to time. The ‘vacant’ room was the room that the scholars stayed in.

“Evan, Barty. Barty, Evan.” His father pointed his finger between the both of them as Evan entered the room. Bartemius rose from his chair and held his hand out towards Evan for him to shake, which he gladly did. Pandora was standing next to their father with a massive smile on her face, you could clearly tell she was eager to ask all kinds of questions that she has been mentally preparing for since she found out he was coming to stay.

“Nice to meet you, Evan.” Barty had a very warm smile on his face that felt like the sun, even though it was only a small smile. It was instantly engraved into Evans' brain. As they shook hands he was convinced he stopped breathing for those very small few seconds. Bartys hand was quite cold in contrast to Evans' usually burning hands, it felt nice. He muttered a quiet ‘nice to meet you too’ with a small nod in return before his father started speaking again. He did not like Barty.

“You must be exhausted from your travels.” Barty replied with a yes and a small laugh at the end. Evan felt like he could listen to it on repeat all day. “Come, come, Evan will show you to your room.”

Pandora seemed to have toned down on her eagerness as she watched the exchange happen, reasling she wouldn’t be able to speak to him till later on. Evan seemed to have noticed this as he tried to hold back his laughter. She rolled her eyes at him in response before moving by their mother and whispering something to her before she started quietly laughing at her too.

“May I bring your things up to your room?” Evan turned towards Barty while pointing towards his belongings. He thought his voice had a slightly annoyed tone to it which he cursed at himself mentally for, but when Barty replied with a happy yes he felt himself in the clear.

He grabbed Bartys belongings while throwing an irritated glance at his mother in the process, which she gave an even bigger smile than before in response, before heading out the room and up the stairs to the room where Barty would be staying for the summer. He heard Pandora shout a small goodbye as they both left the room. Bartemius was trailing closely behind taking in the scenery of the house.

They had reached the room where Barty would be staying; it was an average sized room. It had a single bed with Evans bookshelf on the left of it, a trunk at the bottom of the bed and a desk on the right side of the room under the window. The wardrobe sat on the opposite side of the room facing the bed. It was connected to the room next door, where Evan was staying, with the only separation being the shared bathroom. It was a very lovely room. He placed the belongings on the floor and quickly grabbed the book that he left on the bed side table which he had forgotten about. Barteimus stopped in the doorway taking in the room before shuffling over to the bed and laying down on top of it, instantly closing his eyes with a huff.

“My room is now your room.” Evan spoke as he turned to look at the still man. “We have to share the bathroom though, I’m next door if you need anything.” He was heading towards the door when he stopped abruptly due to hearing the sound of snoring coming from the guests direction.

Barty had fallen asleep mid-conversation . Though it was a one sided conversation as Evan was the only one who spoke but that didn’t matter. Evan was right. Barty was an obnoxious prick because who falls asleep mid conversation? Mid-conversation . Evan stood there for a few seconds with a very obvious irritated look on his face at this. Barty had awful manners apparently.

He threw his head back towards the ceiling with a growing smirk on his face in disbelief. He let out a breathy laugh as he rolled his eyes and left the room. He could not wait till he saw Pandora so he could gloat about how he was right about his beliefs about him. “Putain de bite.” He did not like Barty. At all.

-

After a few hours the sun fell behind the horizon and the bell rang from the kitchen inside the house. Dinner was ready. Evan headed towards the door to head down but the silence from the room next door was deafening. He knew Barty had not left the room since he first entered it. He waited for a few seconds to see if there was any noise coming from the room next door indicating he was coming. There wasn’t.

He slowly walked towards the bathroom and walked to the door leading to where Barty was staying. He was waiting to see if any sound would appear as he headed towards it. When no sounds appeared he knocked on the door. At least he had manners unlike some people, he bets that Barty would enter a room with no announcement.

The room was still deadly silent. He opened the door slowly to the sight of Barty still asleep. He scoffed at this before heading towards the bookshelf near the bed. As much as he hated this man he didn’t want him to miss dinner.

He grabbed a book, throwing it in his hands before purposely dropping it on the floor making a loud noise, awakening Barty up from his beauty sleep. Not like he needed it. He could do with a lot less of it in fact.

“Oh uh sorry.” Evan muttered looking around the room frantically pretending as if he didn’t throw the book at all and was looking for who did. “Uhm, we’re being called for dinner.” It felt more like a question than a statement.

“Oh, I think I’m going to pass.” He replied, his accent seemed less noticeable when he was in a groggy state. He flipped the pillow over before turning over. “Can you make an excuse to your mom, for me? Thanks.”

Evans stood there in shock, almost like he was waiting for him to jump up and say he was joking and it was all a big prank.

“So this is your old room?” Barty asked Evan, opening his eyes slightly. Evan had forgotten he was supposed to be irritated. He nodded quickly, tearing his view away from Barty and to the floor instead. “Thanks. Later.”

Everything Evan had felt previously had came rushing back to him. He felt as if he was going to explode from the absolute annoyance that he was feeling in those few seconds. First he falls asleep mid conversation, then he skips dinner on the first night and asks to make up an excuse for him. And to top it off he says ‘later’ as a goodbye. Fucking later.

This impolite prick.

When you thought the new scholar couldn’t get any worse he did. Evan was going to have a hell of a time ranting to Pandora about this.
