Work Text:

"I think you're splitting."

Moss' voice cut through, slightly muffled around the pieces of jerky in their mouth, sharp teeth cutting through it easily and morphing back into flat molars as they worked on the meat and readjusting their form back into a proper human looking version.

"I think they're just bastards."

Came back the acidic tone that didn't quite fit the normal soft voice of Connor as he paced back and forth, LED a blaring, flashing red. His hair- normally curly and fluffy on top of his head, had flattened out, turning into a slightly more frizzed mess. He had clearly been running his hands through it one too many times, screwing it up. When he would notice Moss' simple raised brow, he stopped and threw his hands out. "What? You know that they are. You of all people should be backing me up here."

Tail flicking as they looked away, Moss simply shrugged, taking another bite of jerky. Connor would snarl and resume his pacing. "They directly prevented you from shapeshifting, they've ignored us constantly, we're the forgotten two- the, the outcasts, they want to scream and cry and beg that they care, that they want to be here, and that they want to help- Look where we are!" He cried out, voice cracking with desperation and emotion, though the lack of reaction from Moss hinted that this was an episode that had been going on for hours.

"I mean, they were right to. I was being a dick." They dismissed.

"You were reacting emotionally because that was the only way you knew how!" Connor countered, rounding on his friend and sounding exasperated. "Are you serious? Those- Those fuckers didn't even bother to look at Ethan as the problem! You were here first! But oh- no, the more popular get priority. Because Heisenberg is sooo respected, Ethan gets anything he wants!" His voice turned bitter, venomous, and he would swiftly turn back into pacing, unaware of Moss' gaze now.

"Well yeah, that's kinda just how it is. -- I'm not saying it's fair." Moss swiftly added onto the end, preventing Connor from interrupting them. "But when a river carves it's path, it takes something outside of itself to build a new one. Earthquakes, beavers-"

"Then we need to make them listen."

".. What?"

Moss blinked with surprise at Connor, who had frozen to stare directly at them. There was a moment where Connor seemed to hesitate and pause, as if considering this point, before he would flinch and hold his head, making a soft sound of pain. With a gentle sigh, Moss stood, putting their hand on his shoulder. "Look. Don't make any rash decisions. I doubt you could like- bomb someone's house or anything, but I don't reallllyyy want to find out man."

Kicking the digitigrade out of their legs and stepping down onto human feet in order to be the same size as Connor, they would duck down slightly, arms catching Connor behind his back and under his legs, scooping up their friend bridal style- who just sighed and leaned into their chest, resigned. "You're prolly splitting. Not a bad thing, just a thing. A thing you need to calm down abt and let pass, aight?"

When Connor would nod against them, they'd soften and nuzzle into his head, carrying him to the bedroom. "You can be angry and upset n betrayed, trust me, I get it. But.." With a glance down at Connor, eyeing the black ink like substance staining his skin on the back of his neck, they'd lightly chew on their neck with a bit of anxiety. "I think you might be getting some kind of sick. I dunno. We should go talk to Dan."

Connor grumbled, LED still flashing red. "I hate Dan."

Moss chuckled.
