Work Text:
David, who was grumpily sat in some random table, all by himself with a miserable expression on his face, began to think; where it started to go all wrong?
Oh yeah, since they met, David decided. For him, the party started to go downhill around two hours ago since their arrival.
*******************************
They were in the limousine on their way to the Polymer Records building that, funnily enough, was just around the corner from where they were momentarily living, meaning that they could have got there by merely walking, but they decide to use a limousine to make an entrance. They were Spinal Tap after all, they had to look respectable.
Talking about respect, Ian were saying that it seems, after their successful and spontaneous tour in Japan, Sir Dennis was extremely happy about it and it looked like Spinal Tap managed to earn back his enthusiasm for the band, as he should really. As everyone should actually. So, Spinal Tap was on top again (They never left the top spot anyways, they just took brakes from it) and that's why they were going to be the 'Honour Guests' in Sir Dennis birthday party tonight and, according to Derek, everyone was going to be there.
When they arrived, Sir Dennis himself was waiting outside for Spinal Tap to make the entrance all together, like a wedding but with multiple brides.
Once they were inside the first one to go missing was Derek, as expected, but not because he didn't wanted to hang out with his band, no... David was pretty sure he spotted a pair of lovely legs that were whispering his name from afar and he just responded to the call, like any man would and should do. Well, not every man, at least not Nigel at the moment... neither would David that, in spite of the break that him and Jeanine took after the Japanese tour, he was still committed to his girlfriend. They were just getting some space, nothing serious... or so David wanted to believe, he should know, he was the one who actually asked her for space and a break from their relationship not knowing exactly why but something was just off.
As them two walked through the people, they recognised a lot of familiar faces and famous people that they always wanted to meet but never got the time or the chance and after they greeted a few, since they couldn't find Ian, or Derek, or Sir Dennis or even a place to sit, they just stood aside the main table, like everyone else seemed to be doing as well, which had snacks and expensive complimentary drinks.
At one point of the night he did heard Nigel quickly apologising to someone without looking at the person he just accidentally hit with his elbow when the butler tried to squeeze in to refill the table with drinks.
Little he knew that the person Nigel hit was going to be the reason of his misery tonight.
What happened was that a little girl, that seemed to be a new member from the press since David never saw her before, tapped Nigel's shoulder making him turn around to find this little creature with a massive camera covering all her face just leaving her frizzy hair to see, aiming to Nigel.
"Smile, Mr. Beck!" She said and just when Nigel was about to smile he stopped in his tracks and his signature confused face took over his whole face.
"Who's Mr. Beck?" As Nigel finished his question the flash of the camera made him close his eyes and David was now picturing in his mind how chaotic the photo she just took was going to be. "I'm Nigel" He said after blinking only two times.
Then, the person that Nigel accidentally hit turned around with a glass in his hand. "I'm sorry love, I think I'm Mr. Beck." He shyly smiled at the girl whose face was completely red, like a tomato, due to the embarrassment.
"I'm deeply sorry, Mr. Beck. Is just that from behind Mr..." Then she turned to Nigel trying to guess his name and because of this David was convinced she was newbie and that she lived under a rock because, who doesn't know how Nigel Tufnel look like?
"Tufnel. Mr. Nigel Tufnel." This 'Beck' guy said before even Nigel could open his mouth, looking at him with a smile and soflty patting his shoulder.
"Mr. Tufnel just looked like you from behind.." The girl said smiling.
"Is the haircut I believe, my dear" He said charmingly as he shyly laughed while looking down. That action reminded David of Nigel when he used to do the same all the time.
"Wait, you know me?" Nigel asked turning to the 'Beck' guy that, David, after doing a quick research in his mind, remembered that he knew the guy. Of course! He was no other than Jeff Beck. Great musician, not as good as Nige but he was quite impressive.
"Of course I do, I have been following Tap's music since '67!" Jeff said enthusiastically. "I have always wanted to meet you but whenever you were in England I was in US, and whenever you were in US I was back in old England." He shook Nigel's hand. "By the way, I'm Jeff Beck, pleasure to finally meet you man." He said with humbleness that made David cringe.
Nigel remained in silence for half a second trying to process all the information until his eyes shone, meaning that he indeed knew who he was. "Oh man! Of course! Jeff Beck! This is amazing, I have been wanting to meet you for years since The Yardbirds! I think you're bloody amazing!" Nigel's smile became even brighter than the lights of this place.
That was true, David recalls. Nigel always admired Jeff Beck. He remembers that in the little tour they did after the success of 'Gimme Some Money' back in 1965, Nigel bought a single called 'Heart Full Of Soul' and he remembers Nigel saying to him that this new guitarist was replacing Eric Clapton or something like that. After the first play, that was the only song Nigel heard during the whole tour. He just discovered Jeff Beck.
"Jesus, funny how we all are in the same circle but we can't see each other." Nigel laughed making Jeff smile.
"Oh, don't even mention it!" He laughed back for then quickly getting the little girl back with a tap on her shoulder. "Let's get a photo together then if we are so similar. Me with Mr. Tufnel." Jeff playfully wrapped his arm around Nigel's shoulders and both smiled with the brightest smiles David had ever seen. They looked like if they had known each other for years, not that David felt bothered by that but it was quite remarkable.
As they started to talk David immediately saw the resemblances between them two. No wonder why the girl got confused, they were like two drops of water. The shy smiles, the gentleness in their voices, the delicacy of how they moved their hands or titled their heads and, Christ, even the haircut as he previously said. If it wasn't because he knew he was completely sober, David he would have thought he was seeing double.
Their chat seemed to intensified when both said 'radio transmission through my guitar' at the same time and David couldn't believe they even had that in common. In another occasion he would have casually stepped into the conversation with something he thinks it would be interesting to say but he caught himself mesmerised, almost absorbed, by how they seemed create and enter a bubble, just them two as if no one else was more important.
David didn't wanted to admit but he started to feel a little bit left out, like the third wheel or, how people in Mexico used to say, 'the condom of the relationship'. But he wasn't really annoyed by it too much because Nigel was still there at his side, he could just interrupt their conversation and start chatting with him again, no big deal, he was just excited because he just met the musician he admired the most.
But when Nigel turned his back to David and started walking away from him but not without saying 'Be right back, I think I saw Derek walking by' before disappearing into the crowd, following Jeff Beck to who knows where, he lost all the hopes he had left and that's when David felt really ignored by Nigel, which will be a first time for him. He saw them walking together and something darkened in his face. Something happened, he couldn't quite get but he started to feel uneasy, making him grab another complimentary drink looking now for somewhere to sit since something was telling him that Nigel was not going to be back.
*******************************
As he sipped from his glass, David kept his distance with his glance, knowing it was none of his business what Nigel was doing but it seemed to be that they were dancing and giggling all over the place. As soon as David landed his eyes anywhere, (in order to avoid them) there they were, right in front of his sight, catching his eye no matter where he looked. Almost as if it was on purpose... but that wouldn't make any sense, would it?
It wouldn't because... why would he? They were okay, they were alright. More than alright actually. They have been fine for weeks. There was no need for Nigel to do it, what he would get from this? Making David feel provoked? And why David thought Nigel was trying to provoke him? He shouldn't be bothered by all he was witnessing, should he? That was the real question, but as he unpacked that one, an itchy feeling started to do some kind of crescendo on his brain when he quickly glanced over them leaning into each other's personal space. He tried to disguise his annoyance with the scene he saw by thinking it was very unpolite of him doing that and figure out that maybe he needed another drink. Or maybe he did not, for he was sure the alcohol was causing him to reach to sincere and scary conclusions about Nigel.
Suddenly, David could feel a frown above his eyes, feeling the tension of his eyebrows as he fixed his gaze upon his friend and Jeff Beck whispering things to each other and laughing softly. The blonde rolled his eyes already fed up with hearing them laugh. Even though they were far way from his table, David could hear perfectly.
He shouldn't be bothered, he knew he shouldn't but he couldn't help but think... all that Jeff did since he met Nigel was making him laugh and smile and David, in the other hand, in spite of being his best friend, all he did in the past few months was exactly the opposite. He should have made Nigel smile, he had one hell of a smile. A smile that could light a room, charming in every sense of the word. David knew that, he thought of it sometimes, not that he would admit he always found that smile attractive but he silently liked it.
Oh god, I will need that drink now. David thought. For make him think about Nigel's smile like that, things had to be real bad.
He sipped what was left of his now gone drink, leaving the glass on the plate of the butler who just casually passed by his side but before he could even stand up from the table, he was surprised by someone who spontaneously sat right in front of him, half blocking his perfectly view of Nigel and the sucker- oops, the Jeff Beck guy.
The guy in front of him was smiling at David as if he was some kind of hot bird. That made him uncomfortable for a couple of second but when the guy started talking, David relaxed as he discovered he was just a fan, and a musician at the same time. Yeah, David could tell by seeing how he was dressed, similar to Derek's style but less... stylish.
"I can't believe it! It's a pleasure to meet you, man! You're such a hero of mine" He was obviously excited as he desesperately searched for David's hand to shake. David gladly gave his hand while thinking he was being a little loud.
"Er, that's so kind of you man, thanks." David blurted out like an automatic response as he really didn't pay any attention to what had been said to him. He just couldn't focus, but he had to act as if he was because the guy kept talking to him. He was really trying, but his eyes seemed to have a life by themselves, glancing over his shoulder to keep watching Nigel like some kind of reflex which he couldn't control at all, and occasionally gently stretching his neck, wishing the guy wouldn't turn to where David was trying to look.
Why I'm doing this? Well, I mean, I need to look after him, he is my friend after all, isn't he? And I don't trust this Jeff guy. But is not that I have a problem with him, is just that I do have a problem with him. I don't understand why he should be the problem? Except, maybe, for the fact that he is the problem.
Stupid Nigel, I should be having a good time, chatting with people, doing stupid shit, whatever. Not seeing you smile and blush like a schoolgirl just because of some dummy who also plays guitar. That's so cliché Nigel, please. I don't have to see your eyes shine, or see your silly head tilt when someone made you blush. Nor that stupid little wrinkle that your nose do before smiling when something made you laugh... shit...
"So that's how I got into music, because of that video of you in the 60s. That's why I am musician!" The change of his tone made him snap out of all his thoughts, causing to temporarily lose sight of what was happening between them two. When he fixed his eyes back on them, he couldn't understand but a small rage overcame him, making him lose the small patience he had left.
He observed how Jeff Beck touched Nigel on the arm when Nige whispered something to him. To be completly honest it was more like a playful touch but his eyes and his smile were a different story and David wasn't going to be fooled, he knew the type. He was going for it, oh yes he was. But it wasn't until Nigel started to pass through the people obviously going somewhere David assumed (by following Nige with his eyes) it was the men's toilet, that David got up from the table in a quick move to follow him up.
And talking about following, David wasn't the only one who followed Nigel with his eyes until he disappeared. He quickly threw a sneaky glance over where Jeff was standing to find him smiling, looking at Nigel's direction, sipping his drink in a shy way.
He is smiling like a retarded, oh Christ... he does like Nigel. Oh god, what a prick he is.
"That's touching, mate, it really is. You know what? I will go for a quick drink for us, I will be right back..." David used his best acting skills to make the guy believe him and leave him content, because actually the guy was being very sweet to David but he just caught him in the worst moment possible.
At first, when he stood up from the table, he slowly followed Nigel as if he was a lion stalking its prey but then, the crowd seemed to know that David was in a rush as they started to get in his way making him lose sight of Nigel as soon as he reached the hallway that leaded to the men's toilet. But David knew he was in there so he did a little run in tiptoes to the door, where he slowed down and skillfully making no sound, he opened and closed the door of the men's room.
"Hi, David" Said a voice that made David jump back a little bit, turning his head in the voice's direction looking like a deer caught up in headlights. "Where were you mate? Entertaining yourself, mh?" He said as he finished drying his hand with a paper towel which he crushed like a ball and threw it, aiming for the bin and when he paper ball magnificently entered, Nigel turned to David again with a cocky smile. He was in such a good mood and David just got quite irritated by that.
He was regretting this a little bit but he had to remind himself he was just checking on his friend, you know, to see if he was on the same page as Jeff guy to, you know, warn him. And probably because he was already tipsy, not drunk enough to start screaming but drunk enough to encourage himself to, what seemed a good idea few seconds ago, following Nigel up to... the toilet to... reproach him.
Reproach him... what? David couldn't answer that.
"So, you talked a lot, huh?" David crossed his arms as he supported his body with his hip against the white marble basin countertop. He tried to sound casual but there was some annoyance in his voice he couldn't hide, but wasn't trying so hard either.
Nigel didn't seem to notice the harsh tone of David's voice. "Oh yeah! He is so clever when it comes to sound, you know? He actually taught me how to do his trick with the whammy bar that goes..." Then Nigel started to make some high-pitched noises imitating a whammy bar. "Oh mate, he's great. We have so much in common actually, is like two braincells in one..."
"One braincell" David corrected.
"What?"
"It's called 'One braincell' when you click with someone." David couldn't stop it, he just rolled his eyes when he heard Nigel's typical 'Oooh'*, when he understood something that was so simple to understand. Which it was, strangely, the first time he actually got annoyed by that. He never did before.
"Anyways, you should come with me and meet him, you know? He's-..."
"No, thanks." David eagerly interrupted letting his anger show, making Nigel wide his eyes to him.
"He seems more close to you already and probably you don't want me there anyways." He added titling his head, quickly glancing over nothing before looking back at Nigel.
Nigel arched both of his eyebrows as he smiled "Hey, what have you been drinking?" He playfully laughed at David already sensing he had a few. "Why I wouldn't want you there? You're my friend and I think you will get along fine." Nigel nodded.
David found that the word 'Friend' was rather insufferable tonight and it managed to irritate his brain in ways he was not quite understanding. "I have been drinking nothing and no, I don't think I like him at all." David shook his head many times, trying to do emphasis on his nonexistent drunkeness which, was obviously a lie and in his dislike for the bastard called Jeff.
"Why? How do you know? You didn't even said hi to-"
"Don't need to, he's a prick." David barked without raising his voice. His tone was sharp and firm reflecting that his mind was made up. He knew he could have been more subtle but just imagining himself talking with this Jeff made his blood boil. Not that he even tried to hide it.
Nigel remained in silence for a couple of seconds, trying to take David in. He could see that the blonde had a few... a few too many. But he usually was the happy type of drunk, until he started to be the horny type, but Nigel was not seeing that happening tonight because something else was upsetting David, apart from the alcohol in his blood.
Nigel sighed as he stared at David who had a cold gaze upon him.
"Is... there a problem, David?" Nigel asked soflty, now wearing a frown, clearly annoyed with his friend's behaviour but David was already too deep in rage to care about Nigel's feelings.
He exhaled so heavily that Nigel thought if this wasn't the real life but a cartoon, David would have steam blowing through his nose. "In fact, Nigel, yes! There is a problem!" David raised his voice looking at Nigel with eyes of fury. "I should be having a good time, I really should! But instead I'm here, feeling miserable."
Nigel made a full face of disgust, already feeling the contagious anger David emanating. Why was David so angry for? Nigel couldn't tell, but it sounded like David was blaming him. "And why you're mad at me for? It's your own fault if you're not having fun, I mean what's stopping you?"
David briefly rested his fingers on the bridge of his nose "You, Nigel! You're stopping me!" He finally yelled at him letting out a grunt of frustration.
"What? Why I-..."
"I could have been somewhere else having a fantastic time, but instead I'm chained to you and this Jeff guy who, let me tell you, was disgustingly spread all over you!" David let his arms drop at the sides of his body in clear frustration.
"He what?! But what this has to do wi-"
"Tell me one thing, Nigel, just one thing." He closed his eyes, placing his index finger in front of his face. "What kind of friend are you?" He asked slowly opening his eyes, finding a very confused Nigel Tufnel probably wondering what was wrong with his friend and this sudden tantrum but David was so fed up with Nigel's way of managing situations. He didn't know if he was playing the fool with him or actually being one. He didn't know which one was worse.
"For fuck's sakes David, what-..."
"What kind of sick friend are you? Just because I rejected you, you're going to fuck with the first guy that talks to you? Is that it?" David knew he was supposed to come here to check on him but he ended up letting his jealousy shamelessly show. Yes, it was pure and clear jealousy but still, it wasn't clear if he was jealous because Nigel was his best friend and he might get replaced with Jeff Beck.
Or he was jealous of Jeff because he could lose* Nigel, but not as a friend...
"WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU?" Nigel raised his voice at the top of his lungs and, for a moment, David could feel some pain in his throat that made him do a half step backwards. "If this little number of yours is in response of what I did to Jeanine in the last tour then I'm sorry, I really am." His voice became calmer but you could still hear the impotence, making realise that he just crossed the line with what he just said to him.
It came to a surprise to David that his own tone lowered, discovering that his anger was all gone just in seconds. "N-no. Is n-"
"I was going through quite a lot, but what would you know? You were so full of yourself and-" He didn't want to hear the rest of it, he didn't want to be reminded of how bad he acted. He couldn't take it. His mind started to replay all the moments in where he hurt Nigel on purpose in the last tour, making him feel desperate.
"This is not because of Jeanine!" He cut him off. It was never because of Jeanine, he thought.
"THEN WHAT IS IT, DAVID?" Nigel yelled, completely out of his normal self. He didn't let him say a word. David was the only person who could drive Nigel this mad.
FUCK, how he was supposed to explain to Nigel he was dying of jealousy? How he was going to excuse himself for this behaviour without blaming the alcohol? (Because David, even though he was obviously tipsy, he understood this was beyond any valid drunk behaviour.) He was so fucking proud that he was capable of saying it was Nigel's fault, well he already sort of did that. SHIT, why David had to drag them down here, to this stage where everything seemed lost, no matter what they say or do? He might as well just tell him.
"I'M-.. I'm jealous Nigel, okay? Christ..." At first he didn't look at Nigel because of a flash of embarrassment that crossed his mind but when he didn't hear Nigel replying back, he talked back. "I'm jealous of Jeff Beck but not as a guitar player or friend would, Nige..." And then, he finally decided to look up to find a shocked expression on his face, still wearing that frown. But quickly, that shocked face pulled out a smile, puzzling David.
"No... don't tell me-" He said, in between what it seemed to be small laughs and giggles. "You can't do-..." Then, Nigel put his palm on his forehead, quietly sobbing this time instead of laughing.
"Nigel?" David, at the sight of this worrying behaviour, tried to approach his best friend but as soon as he called him, Nigel turn to David with eyes of pure anger but with a spark sadness clearly visible.
"What do you want from me, David?" He blurted out, as if he had no anger left in him to yell at David, making him open his eyes wide, parting his lips as if he wanted to answer Nigel but he couldn't find any words to say. Nigel's voice was still clear but with an obvious crack that made David's heart shudder. He felt himself fully awake, as if any trace of his drunkeness was just erased when Nigel asked him that question. "You don't want me but then, all of the sudden you do want me, what is that? What are you playing at?" If David was angry at some point, he didn't know where the rage went. David was proud alright, but even his pride just turned its back on him this time.
I fucked him up. "Nigel I- I'm..."
"First you reject me, telling me that there was no place for that kind of affection in this band. Okay, I bared with it for months. Then, when I finally find someone who I enjoy spending time with, you just appear and do all this." Nigel spoke even more soflty and if he didn't want to be heard. "You don't want me with you but you don't want me with anyone else so, what do you want from me?" Then, he fixed his eyes on David's, leaving them there, making David feel like a monster, and he just has proven he was one.
Oh jesus, everything made sense all of a sudden. He was afraid of losing his chance with Nigel. Yes, he wanted a chance with him. He didn't reject him because he didn't love him back, oh god he has been so stupid. He rejected him because he was scared of himself being attracted to him all these years. He put Nigel through so much pain in the past few months just because David couldn't make his fucking mind up... But now he has, he just realised that he didn't want Nigel with anyone else because he wanted to be with him. Like he always wanted to. He didn't want Nigel with anyone else because they were made for each other. No one was going to understand and love Nigel like David could and, he hopes that Nigel thinks the same after what he just did and said. His brain was working so fast that he could feel it was going to explode in any minute. All these sudden feelings left him speechless for a moment.
Everything was silence until Nigel broke it, scoffing with a smile full of disappointment "I knew it, this was just one of your whims." He spoke so softly almost like a whisper and after seeing that David had nothing else to say, Nigel just walked pass him towards the door not even looking at him and David never ever felt a pain so sharp in his stomach before. It was like a twisting knife inside his gut... how this can be fixed? David didn't want to lose Nigel completely. He wanted to show him that he wasn't playing, that it was not one of his whims, that he was being as real as he could possibly be. He just needed a motivation to tell Nigel how he really felt and it seems he found it tonight. His heart had never been more determined about something he wanted than this precise moment.
He quickly turned around "Nigel wait..." In an instant, taking the advantage he was taller than Nigel, David managed to put a hand above his head closing the door just before he could fully open it, catching the wrist he was using to turn the knobe with his other hand. "Wait, don't... just don't." Don't give up on me he wanted to say but the adrenaline of what he was doing left his mouth dry. His mind was racing a million miles per second, he wanted to let him know that, but nothing came to his mind to say. He just stood there, close to Nigel, keeping him against the door, feeling his tense wrist caught by his hand moving but David wasn't letting go and he wasn't planning to either.
He was still mad at him, he could see it in his greyish-green eyes when they looked up to face David who was dangerously close to Nigel, almost breathing the same air if it wasn't for a gap that remained between them. David never thought that Nigel was capable of looking at him in such way that made him feel one hundred emotions at the same time. He knew he had an intense gaze but he never looked into it before. And Nigel, geez, Nigel was so gentle that he couldn't bring himself to give David gelid glances or cold eyes... but David did, more than once and that guilt was eating him from inside.
"Dave, it's okay, just let me go." Nigel asked soflty, closing his eyes but David knew that was a bloody lie. It was not okay and they weren't okay at all but Nigel was capable of saying they were just to convince David to let him go, for he still believed he was drunk but he snapped out of it twenty minutes ago.
David started to panic because he still couldn't think about what he was going to say to him and his mind wasn't helping him out. Nigel was there waiting and he knew he was waiting for something because if he really would have wanted to, he could have been gone long ago but the fact of having Nigel so close was adding to David's situation.
That's it! David finally figured out.
His mind decided to shut off because it knew that there wasn't anything else to say but do, he had to rely on the body's way which, surprisingly, was more easy than the mind's. The body's way was just lean on and close the gap between them and that was exactly what David did; He pulled Nigel by his wrist and smashed his lips against Nigel's who was shocked, not quite returning the kiss, just standing really still. It was a sloppy kiss and when David began to melt into Nigel's warm lips, he felt how he started to stir for finally pulling away, breaking the kiss for then look up at David with... he couldn't understand the look on his eyes but it was something similar to despair and confusion.
"What is it with you? Who the fuck you think you are?" Nigel raised his tone again but not by much, as he sounded like he was about to cry. "You can't come and do all this to me because you felt like it!" And there was a crack in his voice. Then he quickly looked at the floor, because Nigel knew he was going to cry if he looked at David right now. "Just because-"
In an instinct move, David cupped Nigel's face with one hand while the other was still on his wrist, try to steady him for he was looking everywhere but at David and he needed Nigel to look at him because if Nigel could look at David without breakdown and cry, then the situation could be fixed. He just needed Nigel's soft eyes as a confirmation to do it.
Nigel started to violently struggle with David, trying to get away at all costs but he wasn't letting go, he would never let him go. Not without fixing what he did, nor again. He was stupid enough to let him go once and his life became such a misery. Well, that was not going to happen. Not if he could stop it this time.
"Nigel, Nige..." David softly called trying to get his attention but Nigel was so busy stirring. "I'm sorry, Nigel." He said a bit loud this time, feeling how a burden was being lifted up. And, suddenly, everything just stopped. The struggle, the stir and the desperate feeling of getting away from David. The only movement was Nigel's eyes finally looking into David's. Grey meet blue like never before. He was looking at him with those round eyes, as if he was pleading for something and David knew exactly what it was;
"I'm sorry. I'm so sorry about everything." David could feel Nigel's little frown as he wasn't used to hear David's apologising. "I'm being serious, this is not one of my whims because I'm a spoiled brat." At that, Nigel snorted with a faded smile on his lips and David just giggled. "Yes I know I am, but I have been such a fool... I- I do love you Nigel." He said looking into Nigel's eyes which had gone softer and shiny, making David feel the famous 'Butterflies' in his stomach.
He didn't even realised he started to lean in again but very slowly this time, feeling quite unsure and unconsciously remembering he got rejected before. He released Nigel's wrist and prayed for the best, if Nigel turned around and walked away, David would let him go. But if he kiss him back, well, then there will be no going back for neither of them.
As soon as he felt Nigel's tranquil breathing on his lips, getting drunk by the adrenaline of being this close again, he was surprised by Nigel closing the gap this time around, quickly leaning his body closer to David who immediately returned the kiss with a fire and a desire for forgiveness more than anything really. Almost as if he was trying to take all the pain he put on Nigel away by just kissing him and sure Nigel was feeling it since he put both hands on his shoulders gently gripping them.
David moved his hand to Nigel's nape and tangle his fingers on his hair, caressing his cheeks as his thumbs reached the back of his head joining the other fingers. But while kissing, they smiled at the same time, accidentally clashing their teeth, making them smile even more and pull away very slowly gently panting in each other's lips.
"You... blondes are really dumb, aren't you?" Nigel whispered with a bright smile, almost purring his words. David would have thought it was actually very charming if it wasn't because he was being called dumb.
David looked at him surprised arching an eyebrow, quite jokingly-offended since Nigel never ever talks like this. "Where you'd heard that?" He asked in disbelief.
"Girls always say it." Nigel shrugged. "I never understood why, I always thought it was like a girl-thing to say like..." Then he changed his pitch again, to a even higher one. " 'Oh, what a lovely colour you have on your nails!' Stuff like that." He smiled innocently. "So I remembered it and I said it because I had nothing else to say". Yes, this the Nigel he knows. He probably has his 'Normal' moments but at the end of the day he was just Nigel; an outstanding musician but not connected to reality too often.
"Are they wrong, though?" He knew he has been quite of a dumb lately so there must be some truth on what the girls say. His mother always told him to listen to the girls, they know best... But he had always listened to Nigel instead, thinking that maybe he was wrong or something but now, with what Nigel just said, David finally understood that there was some feminine part that was more prominent in him, that allowed him to be right...most of the time.
Ying was searching for his yang...And he looked and he saw that it was good.
"No..." Nigel laughed and David joined him, feeling that thrill of falling in love again he thought he lost. Oh jesus, he was behaving like a cheesy schoolboy, how he was supposed to explain to Jeanine all this? He could feel guilty about her but Nigel had that lovingly gaze upon him that was occupying all his thoughts. He was sure she would understand.
He was about to kiss Nigel again when knocks on the door distracted him.
"Hey, open up in there!" Someone yelled with an urgent that was perfectly audible. David shared a look with Nigel and without the need for words, Nigel started to do farts sounds, alternating his hand and armpit with his mouth. Often using his saliva to make the sounds, adding to the effect, even more disgusting.
Then David started to cough "No way mate, this is worse than the black plague, you all will die if I open this door!" He coughed again but adding a bit of fake retching before looking at Nigel, who had his hand over his mouth, and silently laugh.
"Oh Lord... why did I ate that?" Nigel moaned, faking to be in pain. But actually the pain was trying not to laugh.
"Jesus Christ..." That was heard through the door.
"Go get someone please!" David said with his hand on his mouth, acting as if he couldn't breathe. When they heard the sound footsteps walking away from the door, they burst in laughter. "I think we should get out of there before they come back." Nigel just nodded not before stealing a kiss from David.
David grabbed Nigel's hand as they walked out from the toilet. Weird place to start a relationship, because he knew they were going to start one, but that's how honest relationships start, right? In the privacy of a public toilet.
