Couch Potato

Summary:

Nijika knows she shouldn't let Hitori just lie on the couch all day, but... she's too cute.

Work Text:

“I’m home!” Nijika called out from the entrance to her apartment.

“Welcome home…!” Her beautiful girlfriend responded from further inside. She sounded a tad more tired than usual, however.

Keeping that in mind, Nijika slipped off her shoes and moseyed into the kitchen to put down everything she was carrying.

It was a Saturday, meaning Nijika didn’t have to go to school today, but she went out anyway to pick up some much needed groceries. Hitori argued that they had enough for dinner tonight, but Nijika just wasn’t satisfied with the unbalanced meal that would entail.

With that in mind, Nijika set out to acquire some fresh ingredients. She also grabbed a few treats for Hitori, however, as a show of apology for leaving her on their shared day off. A part of her couldn’t help but think getting her an unhealthy treat like this ruined the point of shopping for healthier foods, though.

Nijika simply laughed the thought off knowing how much she enjoyed Hitori’s happy face.

“I got you an iced capp, my mochi Bocchi~!” She happily called out.

“A-Ah…” A sense of wonder could be heard from Hitori’s voice. “Th-Thank you, Nijika…! U-Um… Can you bring it over here?”

“Mm?” Nijika was a little surprised. Hitori didn’t often request to be brought things. In fact, she was usually quite quick to grab things herself.

Nijika always took it as her way of not being a bother, not that she would ever think of Hitori that way in the first place.

Either way, Nijika simply smiled and grabbed the drink from the counter. “Of course!” she replied.

As she walked towards the couch where her sweetheart laid, watching something on her phone, a thought ran through Nijika’s mind.

“Muffin,” she said in a casual, yet slightly worried tone. “Have you… moved since I left?”

“E-Eh?” Hitori blinked before thinking for a moment. “U-Um…” Her face began to redden.

“Hitori…” Nijika sighed. “You can’t just lie on the couch all day, you know.” While saying this, Nijika placed Hitori’s beverage beside her. It was clear she wasn’t truly upset about this.

“B-But,” Hitori unusually fought back. “Th-They discovered some new planets! I-I had to watch!” She exclaimed passionately.

“Maybe, but-”

“Th-This could be new songwriting material!” She cut Nijika off. “I-It’s helpful!” She was beginning to sound more like she was trying to convince herself more than her girlfriend.

Nijika gave a pensive look, before placing a hand on her beloved’s cheek. “Hitori…”

Hitori melted staring into the vermillion of Nijika’s eyes, and looked down dejectedly. “Sorry,” she said in a whisper.

She didn’t say it outright, but Nijika knew that Hitori was lying about most of that.

“Th-The truth is,” she stammered out, “I-I just don’t want to do anything today.” She leaned back into the couch upon saying that.

“Were you up late again?” Nijika questioned.

“Yeah…” Hitori said with a yawn. “I-I was working on more guitarhero music.”

“Haah, sometimes you have to turn in early, you know. Sleep is important!” Nijika lightly reprimanded her.

“I-I know, but…” Hitori looked up to her with pleading eyes.

“N-No, no ‘buts’!” Nijika quickly shut it down. Not because she didn’t want to hear Hitori’s argument, but because she knew she’d use sweet talk to win her over.

“Aww…” Hitori slumped back on the couch.

Nijika couldn’t deny how cute it was to see her girlfriend like this. She’s usually so reserved, but she wears her heart on her sleeve when she’s tired. B-But she wasn’t going to let it become a regular thing!!

Nijika quickly moved to grasp Hitori’s hand. “Come on! Let’s go make dinner together! I’ll let you do the stirring like you love to~!”

“Mmmmmmgh,” Hitori groaned. “But…” Her eyes veered to the side.

“Come on, cookie…!” Nijika brought out her favorite pet name as a trump card.

Hitori looked visibly happy, but still apprehensive about getting up. “I-I just wanna…”

‘stay here a little longer.’ Nijika knew that’s what the rest of the sentence was going to be. She had always had an uncanny ability to read Hitori’s thoughts.

“I know, love! But you gotta get up at some point! I don’t want you becoming a couch potato on me! How will I get hugs that way?” Nijika asked with a smile.

Hitori’s face reddened, while she moved back. “Th-There’s… still room…” she said in an unfairly cute way that definitely didn’t make Nijika’s heart skip a beat.

“A-Ah, no, that’s not what I-” Nijika started to feel a little flushed. “I-I mean, we need to make dinner, so-”

“I-I can wait,” Hitori said with pleading eyes.

“B-But…” Nijika desperately tried to fight against this losing battle.

“P-Please? Nijika?”

Those two words were Nijika’s utter kryptonite. It wasn’t just the words themselves. It was the longing face, the warm tone, the little breaths… Everything about it was just beyond cute. So, despite her better judgment-

“W-Well.” She scratched her cheek. “I-I guess it’s fine for a bit.” She said with a sigh of self-defeat.

“Ehehe~!”

…Hitori’s laugh made it all worth it, though.

A satisfied smile on her face, Nijika slumped onto the couch with Hitori. The pink bundle of cuteness wasted no time in wrapping her arms around her love, nuzzling her head into Nijika’s chest. It was almost childlike. Nijika couldn’t help but chuckle, as she lightly kissed Hitori’s scalp and returned the embrace.

She moved one hand to start running her fingers through Hitori’s long, vibrant pink hair. It felt so fluffy. Nijika was so happy that Hitori let her style it and keep it healthy. She had fallen in love with taking care of it by this point. Though, she couldn’t help but feel that she had fallen in love with taking care of Hitori in general.

“Mm, you feel so warm…” Hitori let out.

Nijika continued to be blindsided by how open Hitori was with her feelings right now, but she certainly didn’t dislike it. “Hehe, I’m glad.”

“I don’t think… I could sleep without you anymore…” Hitori admitted.

Nijika warmly smiled. “Yeah… You hug so tight all night. It’s hard to get up for school without waking you up sometimes, you know!” she said with a laugh.

“E-Eh?” Even with her face buried into her, Nijika knew Hitori was turning red. “Th-That’s… just because… c-cuddling with you is better than anything else…”

“Hi-Hitori…” Now Nijika was the one turning red. “You silly~…” She ruffled her hair a little.

Of course, she felt the same way. She couldn’t even imagine sleeping without Hitori anymore. Her warmth was her gateway to slumber.

Hitori cautiously pulled back, and Nijika realized just how red she was. Even though she was tired, it was obvious how hard it was to be that honest. Nijika smiled with her entire heart.

“Thank you, Hitori. That made me really happy~!” Nijika exclaimed.

Hitori melted into an adorable smile. “E-Ehehe~! I-I was just being honest…”

“Hey, Hitori?” Nijika called on her.

“Y-Ye-MMPH-” Her lips were stolen before she could finish the word.

As the warmth of Hitori’s lips began to take over Nijika’s mind, she couldn’t help but notice Hitori’s eyes melting upon looking into her own. The absolute affection they radiated was unmatched, and honestly made Nijika feel a little crazy. She wanted to spoil the heck out of this girl.

As Nijika pulled away, the warmth from Hitori’s lips lingered on hers for a brief moment. When she looked upon her beloved’s frazzled face, she couldn’t help but smile. She looked so cute, after all.

What she wasn’t expecting was for Hitori to immediately initiate a series of quick kisses, giving her scarce time to catch her breath, but the absolute desire held in Hitori’s eyes made it all worth it. She had made the person she loves most happy like this. That was all she really wanted.

After she got to experience the electric bliss of Hitori’s lips a good number of times, Nijika pulled away at the same time as Hitori. They were both out of breath, but… they both wanted more.

Nijika caught Hitori’s eyes getting heavier, however, and pulled her head closer to her chest once more. As she began gliding her fingers through her hair once more, she lightly kissed her head. “I love you, Hitori.”

“I-I love you too, Nijika…” Hitori said in a sleepy voice.

It was absolutely adorable. So much so that, even though it was not a decent time to be sleeping, Nijika’s loving instinct had her wanting to put her pink guitarist to sleep anyway.

Moving her hand, Nijika lifted Hitori’s bangs while she was too drowsy to notice and gave her a kiss on the forehead. Like it was the perfect remedy, Hitori could scant keep her eyes open afterward.

“N-Nijika…” Hitori hugged a little tighter.

Nijika lightly rubbed her back. “I’m not going anywhere, mochi~.”

“O-Okay~… G-Goodnight, Nijika…” That was all she could get out before the lulls of sleep pulled her in.

Nijika lightly kissed her head once more. “Goodnight, Hitori. Sweet dreams.”

She wanted those dreams to include her, if possible.

Nijika simply took in the view of Hitori’s sleeping face for a moment. She doesn’t get to see it very often, after all.

“You really are just so beautiful, Hitori.” She gazed longingly.

She knew she had to get up and make dinner. The downside to actually making your food from the raw ingredients was how long everything took, but she knew it was worth it for the health benefits. She knew she’d have to start soon, but-

She didn’t think it would hurt to stare at this cute face… just a little longer~.

Notes:

I'm back! It's not super long, but I hope you enjoy a little short and sweet Borito! I honestly just felt like I hadn't written them in a while, and this seemed like it would be fun to write, so I did it haha!

I'm in an odd place right now where I find my drive and desire to write very strong again, but I'm having a bit of a difficult time coming up with ideas that I truly want to do. I think I'm just going to try to wing it for a little bit. I'm hoping to find some kind of flow once I just *start* writing more again, but we'll see! I would like to aim to have a Starry Nights chapter out soon! It'll be on the shorter side and much fluffier than it has been recently, so hopefully it'll be nice!

This fic was a fun little test of Nijika's strictness. I've always considered her to be more strict with Hitori than Kita would be in a relationship, but there's a limit to that. I knew Nijika could always be won over, and this fic was finding that limit lol. She just can't resist how cute her girlfriend is... It was quite fun to write haha!

Anyway, I hope to be back with more soon! Thank you for reading!
