"C'mon, it's just like ice skating!"
"I don't think that's right..."
Despite his protests, Touma is dragged onto the frozen lake for a dangerous walk. Mamiya always strides forward at his own pace, even when the ground under their feet might splinter.
He seems so confident... Maybe Touma is worrying over nothing.
Mamiya's hand is the only spot of warmth on this winter day. He focuses on that, rather than look down at his feet and see the living depths below him. Pretend it's not there, and you'll be okay.
"See? That wasn't so bad, was it?" Mamiya asks with a smug smile.
"Yeah. It's not scary if I look at you."
"Touma. You'll be able to face things like this on your own, someday."
He nods, smiling. It's true.
He just needs to pretend the danger isn't there.
