Every time Ivan comes to visit Yao, the exact same thing happens as soon as he walks through the door.
Yao will stand on the very tips of his toes to meet Ivan’s towering height, throw his arms around the Russian, and kiss him. Yao kisses him so soft and sweet that Ivan thinks his heart will simply burst.
They’ll keep kissing, occasionally pulling away to mumble soft greetings to each other, and eventually stumble into the living room, falling on top of the couch.
This happens every single time Ivan comes over.
And he absolutely loves it.
Ivan can’t wipe the goofy smile from his face, his cheeks flushed and lips puffy. Yao lies on top of him, and Ivan strokes his back. His hand moves up and down over the familiar curve of Yao’s spine, and the happy little sighs Yao lets out fill his chest with a surge of warmth.
“I missed you,” Yao murmurs, his deep brown eyes fluttering shut.
“I missed you too, sunshine.” Ivan presses a light kiss to the tip of Yao’s nose.
Yao reaches out to pinch one of Ivan’s cheeks. “You’re all red from the cold. That’s adorable.”
Immediately, Ivan’s face is turning even redder. When Yao places a hand on each one of his cheeks, a smile is creeping across his face before he can stop it. His chubby cheeks have always been an insecurity of his, but Yao always insists that they’re the cutest thing in the world.
Yao eventually removes his hands from Ivan’s face with a laugh. “Ivan, do you wanna keep watching that show we watched last time you were over? The one you said was really good?”
Ivan’s eyes light up. “Yes! I feel like we left off right when things were getting exciting. I really wanna see what happens next.”
“Me too.” Yao grabs the remote from the coffee table and presses the power button.
A few moments later, the show is playing on the TV screen, and Yao is snuggling up against Ivan. Ivan plants a kiss on the top of Yao’s head, tossing an arm over the older nation’s slim shoulders.
A minute or so into the episode, Ivan senses Yao shifting in his arms. He looks away from the screen to see Yao has moved closer to the edge of the couch, and is craning his head forward. A furrow forms between Ivan’s brows. “What are you doing?”
Yao freezes, as if he’s been caught doing something he shouldn’t. “Nothing.” His face looks flushed as he leans back, resting his head on Ivan’s broad chest.
Ivan shrugs, his eyes flicking back up to the screen. After a few moments of comfortable silence, Ivan notices that Yao has shifted forward again, and is squinting at the TV screen.
“Yao…” Ivan purses his lips, confused. “Are you having trouble seeing?”
Yao chews on his bottom lip. “Well, I-”
“Have you talked to a doctor about this?” Ivan’s voice is filled with concern.
“Yes, I have, Ivan.” Yao smiles. “I went to see an eye doctor about a month ago. No need to worry about it. He said I’m a little bit nearsighted. It’s not a big deal.”
“So, did you have to get glasses?”
“Yes. But I don’t really need them.” Yao shrugs and chuckles. “It’s not like I’m bumping into walls or anything.”
“I’m not a professional, but it seems like you do need them. You looked like you were really struggling to see the TV screen.”
“Maybe just a little,” Yao admits, hugging his knees to his chest.
The corners of Ivan’s mouth lift into a smile. “Can I see your glasses, Yao-Yao? I bet they make you look even handsomer.”
Redness tinges Yao’s cheeks. “They’re just glasses, Ivan. They’re nothing special.”
“Please?” Ivan gazes at Yao with big, curious eyes.
Yao reaches out to ruffle Ivan’s hair. “God, Ivan. You know I can’t say no to you and your cute face. Wait right here, and I’ll go get them.” He grabs the remote and presses the pause button.
Ivan grins as Yao gets up from the couch and exits the living room. He soon hears the gentle thump of Yao’s footsteps on the stairs, and his heart flutters with anticipation.
It doesn’t take much longer for Yao to reenter the living room, a small black case in his hands. Yao sits down on the couch and opens up the case, taking out a pair of glasses. Their design is simple, with black, rectangular frames. Yao hesitates for a moment before putting them on, gazing up at Ivan shyly.
Ivan’s breath catches in his throat, his heart thudding against the walls of his chest.
Yao starts reaching upwards to take the glasses off. “Well, now that you’ve seen me in these, I can take them off-”
“N-No, don’t!” Ivan stammers.
Yao lowers his hands and cocks his head. “Why?”
Ivan fiddles with the end of his scarf. “They… they just look nice on you.”
With a small smile, Yao pushes his glasses up the bridge of his nose. “Really?”
“Yeah.” Ivan nods. “I don’t really know how to explain it, but I just really like the way they look on you.”
Yao laughs. “I’m glad to hear that, Ivan. I was honestly expecting some sort of joke about me being an old man.”
Ivan tosses a long arm over Yao’s shoulders. “Well, you may be an old man, but you’re my old man.”
Yao snorts. “Very funny.” He grabs the remote from the coffee table and presses the play button. When the show starts again, his eyes shoot wide open, shocked by how clearly he’s able to see the screen. “Oh wow. I had no idea the main character looked like that. I guess I really do need glasses.”
“Lucky for you, you look amazing in them” Ivan says, pressing a kiss to Yao’s temple. “My pretty Yao-Yao.”
Yao grins and snuggles up closer to Ivan, letting himself melt against his boyfriend’s big, soft body.
