Rui heaves a deep sigh.
Tsukasa reads a magazine.
Rui sighs once more.
Tsukasa keeps reading his magazine.
Rui si-
"WHAT, WHAT IS IT? WHY DO YOU KEEP SIGHING?!", Tsukasa shrieks, tossing his magazine onto the floor.
Rui instantly perks up. "Tsukasa, would you like to attend a concert with me?"
"Who is it?"
"More More Jump!"
"When is it?"
"Tomorrow night!"
"...what's the catch?"
Within seconds, Rui pushes out a large rolling whiteboard that displays a plan labeled "#37: Sneak Backstage At A Concert!"
"So, I wanted to sneak backstage to meet them!", Rui says, displaying his board in all its glory.
"First off, what's with the 37? Second, if you want to meet them, we could just ask Emu if we can hang out!"
Rui clicks his tongue. "You overlook a crucial detail. The 37, as is this plan, is a part of my bucket list! It's more exciting to meet them by sneaking backstage instead of simply getting coffee! If I wanted coffee with More More Jump, I'd just contact them myself. But coffee or social interaction isn't what I crave. I crave adventure!"
Tsukasa, as opposed to Rui, heaves a deep sigh.
"So? How do we do it?"
That's how Rui and Tsukasa entered the Shibuya Dance Festival's Amateur Dance Break!
This competition is for dancers professional and new to dance in a tournament, with the winners earning free tickets to the Shibuya Dance Festival.
"I think this is the dumbest idea you've ever had.", Tsukasa groans, adjusting his outfit.
"Now, now, how was I supposed to get us in without tickets being available anymore?"
"MAYBE WE SHOULDN'T HAVE GONE THEN? GOODNESS!", Tsukasa huffs, turning away.
"Next up, we have...Tenma Tsukara and Kamishiro Rui, named Wonderlands X Duotime, dancing to Ego Rock!", the announcer calls out.
"It's Tsukasa! They'll remember it!", Tsukasa grumbles, hopping on stage with Rui.
As soon as the music starts and they take their first steps, it becomes clear how ahead of their fellow competitors they are.
They swoop into the finals, against a duo called Vivid BRO SQUAD.
"You have got to be kidding me.", Tsukasa mutters as their competition appears on stage.
Aoyagi Toya and Shinonome Akito stand together, decked out in matching More More Jump t-shirts and headbands; Toya's headband reads "Airi❤︎LOVE" and Akito's says "FIGHT☆MINORI".
"Fancy seeing you two here. Sorry, but these tickets are ours!", Akito declares, and without a moment's delay, they start dancing to matching choreography of Cinema.
At the conclusion of their performance, the audience breaks out in deafening roars.
"Tch, they're good! Let's go, Tsukasa!", Rui declares, getting into the starting pose for Dance Robot Dance.
They move in perfect sync, but the audience has the same reaction as they did for Akito and Toya.
The feedback from the speakers whines across the stadium as it is announced...
"All four men will get tickets to the Shibuya Dance Festival!"
Vivid BRO SQUAD AND Wonderlands X Duotime exchange pleasantries before going their own separate ways.
"So...what n-RUI!!!", Tsukasa belts out as Rui grips his hand and drags him through the crowd.
Amidst dirty looks and shocked patrons, Rui and Tsukasa reach the sound of Happy Synthesizer, and they see the four girls dancing on stage.
"OH MY GOSH IT'S MORE MORE JUMP!!", Tsukasa squeals, his previously angered demeanor forgotten at the feet of Akito and Toya.
The two boys frolic for a few moments before Rui gestures to the back of the stage.
They huddle against the barrier, consulting a map Rui made.
"I FOUND OUT THERE'S A TRAPDOOR RIGHT HERE SO LET'S GO!!!", he shouts against the noise.
With aggressive kicking against the stage, a trapdoor pops open, and Rui and Tsukasa crawl through. When they emerge, they're in a room with four chairs, each one displaying gifts in unique colors.
Peach orange, sea blue, light teal, and hot pink.
"Bingo! Now we wait for...um...", Rui begins, but something in the distance catches his eye.
"Let me take a guess. There's two really bulky security guards behind me?", Tsukasa flatly asks.
"Yep."
"RUN!!!", they shout in unison, slipping around them and running in the halls.
"Stop! This is a crime!", the guards shout, their fingers slipping away from Rui and Tsukasa.
Tsukasa mockingly sticks his tongue out as he runs, grabbing a doorknob and running in.
"Not there-!"
The two boys enter the door and find themselves face to face with the entire attending audience of the Shibuya Dance Festival.
Their eyes flicker from the crowd to the approaching guards to the girls dancing to MORE! JUMP! MORE!
"Tsukasa, let's dance!", Rui calls, not even offering his partner in crime a glance.
"Yeah!"
The two boys sidle up to More More Jump and match their moves. The girls remain unfazed, continuing to dance.
The guards scramble to look for an angle to apprehend them, but there's no way to do so amidst the watchful eyes of the crowd and the dancers.
The song ends, and Tsukasa and Rui bow before dramatically hopping into the crowd and leaving the festival.
By the time they reach the station, they're breathless and sweaty with an excitable fire in their eyes.
"That was so fun Tsukasa!"
"You're a total idiot and I'm never doing this again!"
But despite Tsukasa's harsh remarks, they grin at each other as their knees weaken from exhaustion.
#37, completed!
