Work Text:
The Pizzaplex was buzzing with guests as usual, the Glamrocks were swamped with guests looking to take pictures. Even the Daycare was bustling with people. Sun and Moon found themselves a little overwhelmed with the guest count in their space. So many young children wanted to play and chat with them. They hardly noticed when someone new entered the daycare. Someone who hadn’t visited before. They had had no reason to, after all. An adult in their late 20s. They had never been in the daycare before, mainly because they didn’t have any young siblings or children of their own. They rather disliked kids actually.
“Excuse me, ma’am?” A daycare employee spoke.
“Oh, please don’t call me that. I’d prefer male pronouns please.” The adult spoke quietly, shyly.
“Oh! I apologize, sir. Is there anything I can help you with?” The employee corrected themself.
“If it’s not too much trouble, I’d like to set up a last minute birthday party. For right now, if you can.”
“Of course! We always have party rooms available.” The employee input the event in the daycare computer. “How many guests?”
“None.” The adult spoke, looking to the floor.
“Oh… I see.” the employee typed a bit more. “You’re in party room six. We’ll be sure to have someone deliver a cupcake for you.”
“Red velvet, please. It’s my favourite.” The adult then left the desk and made their way to room six.
Upon entering, they were greeted by a moderately sized room, decorated with the typical Glamrock decorations with the addition of some Sun and Moon flourishes. They felt as though this room was too large for a party of one, but figured that all the rooms were this size and larger. It was rare to only have a birthday with one person in attendance, after all. They took a seat at the head of the table, the birthday person’s chair, before taking their phone out and opening their commonly used social media app. They scrolled and scrolled until the door to their room popped open, allowing the two Daycare robots to step inside. Sun was holding a plate with a single red velvet cupcake on it. The pair instantly locked onto the human in the room. Sun put on his best smile whilst Moon a face of slight concern.
“Happy Birthday!” Sun exclaimed as he skipped over to the table and set the cupcake down in front of the guest. “Thank you SO much for choosing Freddy Fazbear’s Mega Pizzaplex for your very special day! Even more so for choosing our Daycare!”
“Sun, I think you can drop the act for this one.” Moon spoke up, noticing how the guest seemed a little overwhelmed by Sun’s perkiness. “I don’t think they are terribly used to such high energy as yours.”
“Oh!” Sun took a step back, his rays pulling inward a little bit. “I’m so sorry! We don’t often get adult birthdays in the daycare. I was a little excited.”
“Um…. It’s alright. I’m just not used to people being excited for my birthday, is all.” The guest spoke, glancing down at the cupcake.
“Oh? Why is that? Every birthday should be one to get excited about!” Sun asked, his rays extending to their max range.
“I tend to not get anything on my birthdays… ah… but that doesn’t answer your question, now does it.” The adult wrapped their arms around themself. “I guess… I’m just forgettable to some, or not worth the excitement…” Tears started to swell in their eyes.
Moon walked around and knelt down beside the guest, opposite Sun. “Hey now, no tears on your birthday.” He cooed softly, placing a hand on their shoulder. “To us, you are more than worth the excitement over your birthday.”
Sun knelt down as well, placing a hand on their arm. “And we’ll never forget you either, mostly because your name is the system.” He spoke, tossing in a quick joke to try and brighten the mood.
And brighten the mood it did as the guest couldn’t help but to laugh. “Thanks. I appreciate the thought.” They held themself tighter.
Noticing this, both Sun and Moon wrapped their arms around the guest and hugged them warmly. The hug caused new tears to race down the human’s cheeks. Moon gently wiped the tears away with his thumb before loosening his hug.
“Now, dig in, Starlight. This cupcake isn’t gonna eat itself.” He spoke.
