Katsuki’s eyes shot open, quickly adjusting to the darkness of his bedroom. A light weight rested on his cheek, which happened to be the reason he woke up. This wasn’t the first time this had happened, but in Katsuki’s still-half-asleep haze, he was a little confused.
Next to him, an overly warm and little Shouto was sleeping. The weight that had landed on Katsuki’s face was Shouto’s hand. They regularly sleep in Katsuki’s dorm, especially when his boyfriend is regressed and clingy (he’s always clingy), so Katsuki is well aware of Shouto’s sleep habits. Most of the time Shouto prefers to sleep curled up, but when he’s little or sick (in this case, both) he tends to try and spread himself out to cool down. He doesn’t even realize he’s doing it, it’s just his body’s natural response to overheating.
Katsuki’s not mad, no he could never be mad at Shouto, he’s more worried about his boyfriend than anything. Last time the blonde checked, his fever had been unusually high, even for someone with a temperature related quirk. He didn’t want to disturb Shouto, so he decided it would be best to take his temp again once he woke up.
For now, Katsuki carefully gripped Shouto’s wrist where his hand had made contact with his cheek, and moved it back over to Shouto. The blonde gently tossed his own arm across Shouto’s torso and pulled his boyfriend against his chest. Shouto mumbled something incoherent, then whined and squirmed.
“Shhh… I know you’re uncomfortable baby..” Katsuki whispered next to Shouto’s ear, pulling the covers up over them both. “You need to sweat it out so you can get better sweetheart, go back to sleep…” Katsuki mumbled the last bit, protectively locking his arm around Shouto and trying to soothe him back into sleep. He wasn’t sure what time it was, but they surely didn’t have to be up for at least another few hours, and even then, Katsuki’s not letting Shouto go to class like this.
The blonde thought that Shouto would be okay going back to sleep, but was quickly proven wrong when more high pitched whines hit his ears, followed by a sniffle.
“Shou? Baby what’s wrong?” Katsuki tried to ask, but Shouto squirmed again, stuffing his fingers into his mouth as a form of self soothing.
“Shouto you’re already sick that’s icky take your hands out of your mouth…” Katsuki gently tugged on Shouto’s hand, and that’s when he realized why Shouto was so upset.
Katsuki clearly remembered giving Shouto his favourite pacifier before putting him to bed, so where the hell is it? That must be why Shouto was upset. All the stress being put on his body must be sending his oral fixation into overdrive, and poor Shouto was too overwhelmed to cope properly.
“Shhh shhh shhh… it’s ok I’ll find it baby.. sit up for me so I can look under you okay?” Katsuki tried to reason with Shouto, but Shouto was too baby brained to understand him, only whining again as a few tears slipped out.
Katsuki slid his arms under Shouto and lifted him up to lean against his chest. Mainly focused on keeping Shouto from screaming and waking the entire dorm building, he blindly felt around the sheets for the pacifier. Once the blonde slid his hand under the pillow, his hand collided with hard plastic.
There it is.
Katsuki grabbed it and hastily presented it to Shouto, who whined louder as soon as he saw it.
“Shhhh… I know, I know…” Katsuki mumbled as he nudged the silicone into Shouto’s mouth to calm him down, knowing that the sound of his voice would be helpful in soothing the little.
Shouto immediately began to calm down, his crying reduced to stuffy sniffles. After helping Shouto blow his nose, katsuki gently guided him back down into a laying position to hopefully get him back to sleep.
The blonde was so focused on calming his baby that the thought of taking his temperature completely slipped his mind. By the time he remembered, Shouto had finally fallen back asleep. Oh well. Shouto didn’t feel dangerously warm, so as far as Katsuki was concerned, his baby’s rest was more important.
