Work Text:
There was a fine line that she’d once drawn in the sand- not ready , two words that put things on hold, set the sun down at dusk on another day of a work partnership that was now barely that, often tiptoed closer to the boundaries of lover, of partner, of lifelong.
She knew he loved her.
She’d always known, but with his arm slung low around her waist as fingers of sun made their way in through the blinds that had been pulled barely shut the night before, she’d never been more sure of anything in her life.
“Liv…” His voice a low rumble in the half-dark, a timbre that once she’d finally been privy to, had become her favourite sound in the world to wake up to, arms tugging her closer back against his body as sleep threatened to pull him back under, lips brushing her half-bare shoulder, cami slipping.
He should’ve gone home the night before, crept out at two like he almost always did, avoided semi-awkward kureig brewed cups of coffee in the morning with her son, avoid her burning the blueberry pancakes, avoid him having to go another three days without shaving, because in his mumbled complaints between her thighs, it was such a shame to not have a razor .
“We can’t stay in bed all day.” A rumble of complaint from him then, a last squeeze around her waist as she pulled out of his grasp, the trailing of his fingers across her ass as they often did now he was allowed to touch her as often as he wanted within reason, Elliot .
The compass is already in her hands before the words even leave his lips, every day the same soft whisperings, the rare mornings he stays over a quiet, almost wistful ask.
Let me do that for you .
His fingers on her skin, the sliver of gold chain, her cami strap slipping off her shoulder as she leant down next to what was now his side of the bed, her readiness to get coffee brewing, get her son up, get going, suddenly forgotten.
The creaking of her bed as he sits up, sheets pooling in his lap as he brushes his lips against the back of her neck once, twice, third time’s the charm as she sits on the corner of the bed and brushes her hair aside to let him close.
She knows he loves her.
They could’ve spent years breaking dawn light between them this way.
