SCARA/WANDERER’S POV
What’s wrong with them?
He didn’t understand, he couldn’t understand what was happening to them. Tears were going down my eyes as he tried to shake them awake, he didn’t understand them nor did he understand what was happening to himself either. he managed to wake them yet they looked strange, there wasn’t a smile on their face as usual, they looked tired.
”Kuni?”
He heard them call his name, he was still crying. He knew you were going to die, he wished he arrived sooner, he thought maybe if he didn’t leave, you’d be okay. He held you close to him, hugging you as tightly as he could as tears went down his eyes. God, he hated this with every being inside of him.
Patting his head, you tried to reassure him and tell him it was alright, you were going to be okay. You were only going to be away for a little while, how you wished you knew how long that’d be.
”Please don’t leave, reader. Don’t go, please. I can’t lose you too.” A little more time, please. That’s all he needed, just a little more. Just a little more with them.
“It’s alright, Kuni. I’m still here, I’ll still be here. I’m just going for some time.” You wished it didn’t have to end this way, you wished for just a little longer, you could stay. You reached for his cheek, wiping away some of his tears. You didn’t notice he was crying, you thought the irony of this was funny. You didn’t think anyone could care for you like this until he was in the picture.
He was begging as he held them in their arms, begging to them, begging to the archons that he’d just have a little more time, just a little more. But of course, he didn’t get his wish granted as your vision slowly started to become blurry and everything around you was becoming unclear. Nothing made him hate the archons more than this, if only the gods weren’t so cruel to him.
”I love you, Kuni.”
Of all the things to come out your mouth, the least he had expected was that.
”What?”
“I said, I love you. I’m happy, I’m happy I lived long enough so I could call you my friend, I’m happy I could stay in this awful world with you long enough to even have the benefit of saying this.”
You knew death was coming close to knocking on your doorstep these past few months, you just didn’t know how to tell him, you didn’t know how to get him to understand. You wished you could’ve told him. Kuni didn’t say a word after that, he was confused, scared, worried. He didn’t want to get left behind once again, why would you tell him of all people that you—
“Could you say it back?”
“Reader, I…”
Nothing but a few minutes of silence besides the fire crackling around them was with them. He wanted to say it, he truly did. Yet, he knew that would mean you were actually gone and there was no chance of you coming back, he knew you were leaving, this would be the last time the two of you would speak to one a another again, and he hated the thought of it.
“I love you too.”
