Work Text:
Jake was known for being a popular boy at school. He was a rich and wealthy one. But most, he was known for being a complete bully. He would either demand money, or someone to do his homework. He did so with a young girl at least two years his junior.
He found her at her locker and slammed his fancy hand against it, startling the girl only a little. It didn’t seem to faze her at all.
“Where is my homework!” he demanded her with a threatening tone.
“What?” asked the confused girl.
“You heard me! Where is it?!”
“I…I…do I know you?”
“Yeah, dummy, we’re in the same class!”
“Strange…I remembered sleeping in my room. This is not a dream, am I correct?”
“Wake up, stupid! You had better have my homework. Or else…!” Jake said with a threatening voice.
Y/N L/N slapped Jake Shim with a harsh hand. As of course, he had not been so by another classmate, he was taken aback by it. He tried to backhand her, but she moved away.
“Nope on a rope!” she said, sliding away from his big hands.
“What are you going to do? Cry and tell our homeroom teacher?” Jake said with a smirk on his face.
“I detest crying!” Y/N snapped in reply.
“You’re such a baby, you know that?” he snapped as he rolled his beautiful Aussie eyes, “I can’t believe that I have to sit with you in class!”
Even if Jake was known for his arrogant and rich-boy behavior, he was very attractive to her. She gazed into his eyes.
“You are so beautiful,” she mumbled quietly.
“You think I’m attractive?” Jake said with a smirk, “Sorry to say this, but I am way out of your league. I’m too old for you.”
“I’m sixteen.” Y/N said, still unfazed and confused.
“And I’m eighteen. But what’s the point?”
He walked towards her and stood right in front of her, representing his 6-foot height different compared to hers. He bent down, leveling his height so that his face was inches away from hers.
“You did not let me finish,” said Y/N, “I am sixteen. I am just two years younger, what is the big and fat, stupid deal! Besides…I wasn’t saying that about you.”
“Whatever,” said Jake, brushing off Y/N’s claim and feigning a yawn, “However, you are still a child to me. So I have no choice but to do something with you.”
He grabbed her arm and pulled her away. Still unfazed, Y/N stopped him and pulled out his homework sheet.
“Here!”
“What?” Jake said, without looking, “Are you going to ask me out on a date? I know I shouldn’t break it to you again, but I don’t go out with little dorks like you.”
“I am giving you your homework?” said Y/N, dangling the white page to grab his attention.
“You’re bringing it up again? Alright…I’ll make an exception. You can have my homework, now go away!”
“You beast.” she mumbled, smooching his cheek.
“ Yeeech ,” Jake exclaimed, “What was that for? Did you try to kiss me? Why would you?!”
“You mess with me? You mess with my love life!”
“Woah, woah, woah, woah, woah…calm down there. I know you are trying to be tough, but face it, I am out of your league and why should I waste my time on a dorky girl like you, when I can have only pretty girls in this school?”
“I don’t know, honestly.”
“Exactly! Now, excuse me, please!”
Jake pushed Y/N away, but she was still unfazed and was pretty upset with the way he was acting.
His mother did a terrible job raising him!
“And don’t kiss me again! Understand?!” shouted Jake from afar of the hallway.
Idiot! Y/N thought.
But Jake heard of this thought. He stopped himself from walking away. He never heard anyone’s thoughts before. In fact, it is nearly impossible for someone about his age to even hear anything similar to this.
“Did you…just call me an idiot?” he asked as he was confused.
“Maybe I did…maybe I didn’t,” Y/N said, smirking and crossing her arms.
He knows his telepathy skills. Interesting.
“You had better watch your tone with me! You little brat! Seems to me you have left me no choice but to teach you a lesson!”
He grabbed her by the arm and dragged her away to an empty classroom. But Y/N kicked him on the shin. He was knocked to the ground. For some reason, he recovered and stood himself up again. Infuriated, Jake walked up towards Y/N with a scowl.
“That’s how you want to play it, eh?”
He forced her into another classroom. Of course, she was not fazed. Jake slammed the front door. It was only the two of them.
“You know you cannot hurt me, right?” said Y/N, crossing her arms, leaning on a desk.
“We’ll see about that.” Jake responded, coming close to the girl, “I have the tendency to do whatever I like with you. No one has to know.”
“Do it,” Y/N smirked, “I don’t have all day.”
“If you’re sure about that,” said Jake, smirking back at her, “I could do anything I desire to you, and I hope you would enjoy every second of it.”
“If you’re going to seduce me, then do it a lot more gently. After all, I am a ‘child’ to you.”
“Very well, then.”
“Lead me away!”
Jake cackled and then carried Y/N to a nearby hallway, where they met in each other’s arms.
“Let’s have fun, shall we?”
“Don’t hurt me,” Y/N warned, “If you do, then I can’t return.”
“I won’t hurt you. Not yet, anyway.”
“Not yet?”
“You weren’t nice to me.”
“Really?” Y/N asked after kissing his soft and puffy lips.
After catching off guard from the kiss, Jake kissed her back passionately. Running his hands into her hair, they still kissed.
“I’ve been waiting and waiting to get a girlfriend like you.”
I thought you wanted to teach me a lesson?
Suddenly, Y/N’s wings popped out of nowhere. Jake was shocked by your sudden change in appearance, however, he regained composure and pulled her closer to him.
“I knew you weren’t a normal girl, for some reason. These wings are breathtaking for me to handle.”
But Y/N pushed him away.
“I couldn’t kiss a human. Now…I’m afraid I can’t return to Heaven!”
“Wait…what are you talking about?” Jake asked, stepping back slightly, “Are you saying that…you are an Angel? No! That can’t be! They don’t exist!”
“I am the one that defeats demons and the vengeance of hell!”
“You’re a demon hunter?” asked Jake with a shocked complexion, “But how could a little girl like you be such a creature? Aren’t they supposed to be beautiful and pure, and not so angry and violent?”
“You think I’m angry and violent?”
“I think you’re messing with me, there is no way they are real.”
“You don’t have a belief, don’t you? I’ve noticed that ever since I first saw you.”
“Oh, please,” said Jake, sarcastically, “Don’t preach your religion to me. I am not interested, one bit! I only believe in what I see and what I can feel, not just some made up stories about Angels and demons.”
With enough trigger inside her mental being, she then ran up to Jake and stabbed him right in the stomach. Jake groaned in pain. His blood poured out of his wound. He managed to keep standing.
“What…did you do that for?” he asked, coughing and choking, “I would never say those things to you! I am so sorry! I was only joking with you!”
Y/N began to recite a spell and levitated him halfway in the air. Jake was unconscious. She reversed the wounds on his stomach. Once she had finished healing him, she made sure he landed him in her arms.
Jake woke up and came back to his senses. His vision was blurred but he could still see Y/N and her black wings, holding him in her arms. Distoriented, he quickly realized that he wasn’t bleeding anymore and his wound was some- how healed.
“W-what happened?” he stammered, “I…I thought I was going to die! How did you do that?”
“Now you believe me? At least slightly?”
“I’m sorry,” said Jake, standing up, well again, “I was wrong to doubt you. I was wrong to try and seduce you, as well. I…I thank you for saving my life.”
“If it makes it better, I’ll give you your homework. But on one condition. You mention this to anyone, I’ll make sure you won’t come alive again!”
“Don’t hurt me! Please!”
Y/N smiled softly, “How could I? You are just too good to be hurt.”
The school bell rang, it was time for class again.
“Hurry, my homework! I can’t fail my homeroom class again!”
Y/N gave all of the homework pages to Jake.
“What do they call you,” asked Jake, “I would like to know, in case I wanted to see you again.”
“Y/N L/N,” said Y/N, “Pleasure to meet you, Jake.”
“And to you. If you’ll excuse me, I must get back to class. I’ll see you again soon.”
Y/N vapored away, letting her giggles echo away for Jake to hear. Jake watched in awe. He never thought that she would have such inhumane powers. At sixteen years old.
He then whispered a farewell before class was official.
When he got home, Jake could not help but feel this sense of gratitude towards Y/N. While doing his next few sheets of homework, he could not help wondering if this was the beginning of a new chapter of his life.
*~*~*~*~*~*
It was the end of another day at school. Jake was still trying to wrap his head around the fact that Y/N was really an Angel. The bell rang for Hometime.
Athena came back down to earth for some odd reason. It was not because she loved Jake so much. She sensed a sign of danger. Jake then saw Y/N rushing towards him so quickly, like lightning.
“I thought you'd gone back to Heaven or something. I have missed you a bit.”
“Something dangerous is coming quickly and we need to get everyone out of here! Hurry!”
Confused with fear, Jake’s eyes widened with Y/N’s warning.
“Dangerous? What do you mean? What is happening?”
“He will demolish this Earth before anyone realizes it. Come on!”
“What is going on?”
There was a rumble in the ground. It shook. It was almost as if there was an earthquake.
“Is this another demon hunt?” Jake asked, looking for any signs of Danger.
ROAR!!!
They heard the loud roar and Jake’s eyes went wide with terror. He looked at Y/N and realized that she was holding a sword in her hands.
“What is this we are hearing?” asked Jake, “Is this one of the demons that you mentioned?”
He took a few more steps, trying to stay as far away from the sword as possible.
“My old foe!” Y/N said.
“Old foe? What does that mean?” Jake asked, both confused and terrified.
He saw the demon approach them through the open door of the classroom.
“Is that the demon you were speaking about? It’s huge! ”
The demon was indeed very large. At least twice the size of the average person. Its teeth were bloody sharp, and so were the claws, and it was staring at them with a menacing look on its face.
“We meet again, O Devil!”
“This one…is the Devil? I thought he was supposed to be stuck in Hell? Why is he here, attacking us?”
“He thinks I’m my mother! After all, we do have the same resemblance.”
Therefore, Y/N took flight. She battled with the King of the Underworld.
SWISH-SWOOSH!
Jake watched in awe as Jake fought the Devil with her sharp silver sword, but was still frightened. He could hear the sword clashing and demons roaring all around them. It felt like they were in the midst of a battle between the good and the evil. He didn’t know who would win.
“Be careful!” he shouted, “This does not look good.” he then mumbled.
He looked all around as the chaos surrounded him.
“Off with your head!” Y/N shouted.
She was swift and agile, dodging the attacks and countering with powerful strikes on her own. She fought like a warrior. Jake couldn’t help but admire her courage and skill.
“She is amazing.” he mumbled.
SLASH!
Y/N made a successful blow on the Devil’s head. But as the other demons raced towards her, she crossed her arms as a shield…and they were blown away, destroyed and dissolved. It was as if she had some sort of supernatural power that allowed her to deflect the attacks of the demons. He couldn’t believe that he was seeing this. He was impressed that she was this skilled and powerful the sixteen year old was.
“You were amazing!” said Jake, “You took out all of those monsters like they were nothing! I can’t believe we have someone so powerful at our school!”
The time continuum began normally. It was as if they didn’t know what really happened. They went about their daily lives and no one even knew that this battle between the girl and devil ever took place.
“Did I just imagine it?” asked Jake.
“People can’t see these things unless their faith is as pure and true as their strange sight.”
“But…how could I see you? Did you do something to make me believe in you and the demons that you fought?”
“I realized that when I stabbed you for the first time, your blood was gold.”
Jake was taken aback, but remained in composure.
“But that can’t be! I am a human being! How could my blood be golden?”
As he stared at her in disbelief his mother arrived.
“Mom?”
He could not believe that she was in presence, even after the battle between Y/N and the demons.
“Why and how would you know where to find me?”
“I should have let you know this would happen at least once in your life. I wanted to tell you the truth ever since your father died! I just wanted to protect you!”
“Protect me from what? What are you saying?”
“The Seven Sins .” said Y/N.
“But it’s just a myth,” said Jake, trying to joke it off, “They don’t exist, right?”
He then looked at his mother again and saw that she was looking at him with a serious expression on her face.
“Wait a moment…you’re saying that that is real, too? But it just can’t be!”
Jake had always thought that the Seven Sins were very much a myth or a simple fairy tale. And now he was unsure. His mother’s sudden presence and Y/N’s sudden confirmation threw him off guard and could not let him fathom every detail given to him.
“Now I know why I was sent here. Why I wandered off into this world.” said his mother.
“What are you talking about?” asked Jake, wanting an answer or two about this new information.
“I was forced to marry the Devil’s son Lucifer.”
Jake was shocked by this revelation and looked at his mother with a complexion of disbelief.
“I thought you were married to Dad. How did this happen?”
“He hated your father completely,” said his mother, “He was in the ninth circle of Hell. I wanted to save him. He was accused of a crime he did not commit. Everyone thought of him as a monster because he lost his temper a lot, everytime something terrible happens.”
“I could see where I got it from.”
“I saved him and nursed him back to health. We were not allowed to marry, since he was an Angel, and I was just a servant to the King. But after I had you, he said I had to go. I begged for him to let me stay with him. But he wanted to keep you and me safe. He gave me this crimson pendant and…there I was…arriving on Earth with a baby Jake in my arms.”
“The pendant is also said to curse you, if in the wrong hands,” said Y/N, “Your father gave it to her for immense safekeeping. She wanted to pass it down to you.”
His mother passed the necklace to Jake and he held it gently in the palm of his hands.
“Keep it safe,” she said, “It’s the only thing that your father left for me.”
“Anything else I should know about it? I must know so that I would be prepared if anyone else tries to take it away from me.”
“Nothing else yet,” said Y/N, “You must rest now. Tomorrow, we begin training.”
“Train me?”
“We must train you,” said his mother, “The time is right for you to become a Demon Slayer.”
“I will do whatever it takes. What comes first?”
“Your wings,” said Y/N, “They may take years to develop. But you are way past that age already. They should be easier now.”
He closed his eyes. He thought of his father, his mother, and his hometown. His mother and Y/N grabbed both of his hands. Then…a pair of jet black wings came out of nowhere and he levitated. Jake opened his eyes and felt this excited rush as he looked at the black wings that appeared from his back. They were like nothing he had ever seen before and he could not believe that they were his very own pair.
“This is amazing!” he exclaimed.
Jake floated down and Y/N patted his head.
“Tomorrow, training officially begins.”
“I imagine myself soaring through the skies, fighting for the world, protecting my family and my home. I thank you for giving me this opportunity.”
.
.
.
Jake tried to find sleep. He was exhausted by the fight and the combat. He then heard of Y/N’s warning. We wondered if something would happen if he slept. He did not want to risk missing anything important and was determined to stay away. He just hoped he would keep his eyes open throughout the night. But he then yawned and fell comfortably asleep.
Y/N’s spirit formed in front of him and watched over him.
“You shall be the bravest warrior. I’m sure of it.” she whispered before vanishing away.
Jake suddenly woke up after hearing her whisper. He wondered all around his room, only to find himself still alone. He was motivated and laid back down. It wanted so much to learn whatever it took to become the best demon slayer in his family.
“I thank you Y/N.” he said with a yawn and falling back asleep.
Next morning, the sun shone brightly on his vampire white skin. But it seemed that it did not appeal to him. He did not like the best from it.
The figure of Y/N appeared right in front of him. Jake forced himself awake. He kept wondering of the Seven Sins and the ties they had to his family history. But more importantly, he had to learn how to use his wings and sword to defeat them once and for all.
“Lesson One: The Art from Mind and Weapon.” said Y/N.
Navigating one’s mind and weapon was essential to the skills of a demon slayer. Otherwise, Jake would have been a disadvantage if he had not done so. It was all so new to him and he was eager to begin.
Y/N looked at an old oak tree right in front of them.
He’ll need something to duel with…this tree will be a perfect use.
She blew a strong powder of glitter and the oak tree woke alive. It slowly and wearily walked toward the two teenagers and looked down at them.
“But how?” asked Jake, amazed by her god-like powers.
“With this special power from the Battle Pixies, anything that is not living or moving like a human or animal can come to life. The first things that Demons wish not to see are trees.”
“What is not to like about trees?” asked Jake.
He was beginning to see how powerful this sixteen year old girl was. He was also wondering what else she was even capable of.
“They don’t like it and always make such a fuss over them. After all, it is just stuck there.”
“Well, that’s understanding.” Jake laughed, “Is it useful for humans?”
“It does not work. It’ll just stick to you like normal glitter. You are already living.”
Suddenly, the tree started charging toward Jake. But he was startled, unknowing what to do. He then floated in the air and circled around him. The tree tried to catch him, but he was too fast. From left to right, he slashed the tree from every chance he got. Eventually, he pounced on the oak tree and stabbed it to finish it off. He quickly backed away and watched it wilt away, turning into ashes.
“I did it…I got him!”
“Indeed. Now for the second part of this lesson. If a demon’s wounds somehow regenerate and does not give on you, then we use a special weapon.”
Y/N pulled out a beaker of seemingly a type of holy water and poured a few drops on Jake’s hands, as if it was only a little of hand sanitizer.
“Rub it.” Y/N instructed.
Jake rubbed the liquid together and grabbed his sword tightly, little did he know that it was a secret key to upgrading the power of his weaponry.
“Who will I practice to fight against?” Jake asked, still holding tight to his sword.
Y/N whispered the words to summon a demonstration creature (an artificial evil lifeform). Suddenly, a creature arose behind.
Jake was caught off guard by the sudden appearance of the creature and looked at it with fear and surprise in his eyes. He did not know what it was or where it came from. He became frightened of this situation.
“Don’t worry,” said Y/N, “This is not a real-life creature. It’s an artificial life form.”
Jake was relieved. But he was not sure whether to fight the creature or not. He had to be careful. The situation may turn dangerous rapidly.
“What’s the first move you make?” Jake asked in a panic as the artificial demon crept closer to them.
“If he tries to come even closer, then you take flight to escape if he tries to grab you.” said Y/N.
The creature tried to grab hold of Jake. But the boy jumped high in midair and landed carefully on his feet.
“Or just simply jump away.” Y/N mumbled.
The monstrous creature crept closer again. Jake thought of saving his family, friends, his hometown, and the nearby forest that led miles away from the town. He felt the surge of determination. Jake then took flight from the creature’s hand and slashed him a few times. But it violently shoved him to the ground, and Jake painfully tumbled to the ground.
“Ow!” he exclaimed.
“Try again, Jake! It’s okay! Just focus!” said Y/N, encouraging him once again, “It’s just the first try. It’ll get better in the next one!”
I can do this , he thought as he stood back up.
He took a few breaths and thought of the things to protect and to hold on dearly. He took flight and swarmed around the creature boldly.
SWISH-SWOOSH!
He fought bravely. And as he flew higher into the sky, he dove right back down, heading straight for the artificial creature.
“Off with your head!!”
SLASH!!!
Jake had slashed the monster greatly, making it explode deafeningly.
He cheered for victory, defeating such a demon for the first time in his life. He was grateful for having a junior student as a guide and teacher to help him fight off any other threat. The time continuum began normally again and everything went back to normal. For now. The sky grew dark and into nighttime.
“I must go and you must rest,” said Y/N, “You have school tomorrow.”
“School? Tomorrow?” Jake asked, confused.
“In order to be safe when not in battle, we must keep up with our daily lives. But we will still continue to train. You, my boy, have a great deal to learn.”
Athena kissed him on the head and flew away. Jake was glad to have met her and have her by her side and was ready to train more tomorrow. He just hoped that nothing else happened in the dawn of light while he was sleeping.
“Goodnight, Y/N.” Jake said in a gentle tone.
“Goodnight, Jake.” Y/N’s voice whispered.
*~*~*~*~*~*
Jake slowly got ready for school. He wondered about the next lesson. There was still a lot to learn. He looked forward to seeing Y/N again.
Y/N floated down on top of the school building, hoping that no one would recognize her. Jake was walking in the school, as he saw the mysterious figure. She then floated down and knew it was Athena.
“Quickly,” she said, “Inside!”
They both rushed inside the school’s campus and inside their class. Athena floated in Jake’s classroom. But Jake was confused.
“How did you get in my class?” he asked.
“When I first met you, you demanded that I give you the homework you gave me. You said that you could not believe that you have to sit with me in class.”
Jake was somewhat reminded of that time.
“Oh, right. I was acting pretty stupid around that time in my life.”
“You were. And here is today’s assignment. I got a few wrong, so no one would suspect a thing.”
“Oh, I had forgotten. I thank you for this. I didn’t mean to forget. Do you have any other classes for today?”
“I have Glee class, and P.E.”
“You have singing classes?” Jake asked, surprised as she mentioned the school’s glee club and choir, “I was not expecting you to be taking singing lessons. And P.E, too. That is interesting.”
Jake was impressed by Y/N’s many talents. He became curious to know why she took up these electives in the first place.
“Do you enjoy singing?” he asked.
“Well…” Y/N stuttered, “If I am in a quiet place, and no one is around to tamper with me…then I just belt out my voice like a goddess…or, of course, as you might know, an Angel.”
Jake smiled, impressed by her confident response.
“You know, you sound just quite like a diva,” he said in a playful tone.
He hoped that one day she would be comfortable enough to sing for him.
“I think I know a quiet place.” he said again.
Jake felt hopeful. He wanted to hear Y/N’s beautiful voice and figured it would be difficult with all of the other students crowding around them. He then looked around and noticed the door to the empty music room.
“No one ever really uses the old music room anymore, except for certain club members. You can have that spot to sing alone.”
He brought her over to the unused room. He wanted to give Y/N as much privacy as possible so she could showcase her singing talents. Y/N went inside and closed the door. She then found a soft place in her heart and began to sing the lullaby that her mother once sang to her.
Small craft in a harbor that’s still and serene,
Give no indication what their ways have been;
They rock at their moorings all nestled in dreams,
Away from the roll of the sea.
Their stern lines are groaning a lullaby air,
A ghost in the cuddy, a gull on the spar;
But never they whisper of journeys afar,
Away from the roll of the sea.
Oh, had they the tongues for to speak,
What tales of adventure they’d weave;
But now they are anchored to sleep,
And slumber alee.
Come fair winds to wake them tomorrow, we pray,
Come harvest a-plenty to them every day;
Till guided by harbor lights they’re home to stay,
Away from the roll of the sea.
Jake walked into the empty music room and was amazed by Y/N’s singing. He stood there in the corner quietly as she sang, trying not to disturb her. He was getting lost in her song. He wanted to listen to her forever, but he found that the song had already ended and he was left with a sense of peace and tranquility.
“That was beautiful.” Jake said, softly.
Y/N felt a wet spot on her cheek. It was a teardrop. But she detested crying. Jake noticed the tear. He walked over to her with concern. He was worried about her. But he didn’t want to intrude if she wanted some time alone. He then stood right next to her and gently put his big warm hand on her shaking shoulder.
“Are you alright? You can talk to me, if you need to. I will listen.”
“My mother…she used to sing me this song. There was a war between Heaven and Hell. And she was…”
Y/N paused quickly, looking traumatized.
Jake could tell that she was hurting and didn’t push her for more information if she didn’t want to say more. He just wanted to be there for her.
“She was taken away.” Y/N ended the story.
“I see,” said Jake, sympathetically, “It must have been so hard on you, losing someone that was dearly close to you. It’s never easy and you are bound to cry about it.”
“It never is. But when I met you for the first time, you were a bully to me. I must have brought you back to your good side.”
“I guess you did,” said Jake, “But you were very patient with me. Even after you stabbed me…and after I was being difficult.”
Jake was really glad to have met Y/N. He wanted to continue to make her proud of the person he was becoming. Y/N kissed passionately with him. As if at the same time, they were falling in love. Jake felt an excitement wash over him. He had always been attracted to her. And now, he did not waste any time to spend with her. He returned her kiss as he fell deeper and deeper in love with her.
“I’ve been waiting since the day we met for this. I love you so much!” He said in a soft tone, gently, rubbing her cheeks.
“Even if you were pretending to be a bully?”
“Yes. But…I was only bullying you and demanding you for things…because I was afraid of telling you how I felt. I’ve always had feelings for you.”
Jake may have found it difficult to tell her the truth, but he was relieved that he was finally able to express it to her. He wanted her to know how much she meant to him. He pulled her into his arms, and laid her head on his chest and he patted it.
“I love you…Y/N.” he lovingly whispered.
“I love you too, Jake.” Y/N whispered, falling into a deep sleep in Jake’s chest.
Jake held Y/N in his arms. He then sat her down on a chair and he laid her on his lap, still petting the top of her head. He didn’t want to wake her. He was content that he had found his true love. He kissed her forehead.
*~*~*~*~*~*
Y/N met him outside of the gardens of the school. Jake was confused about the next lesson. They stood face to face, up and straight.
“What will be the next lesson?” he asked.
Y/N and Jake clapped their hands together and they were suddenly teleported to the Gettysburg Battlefield.
“Here we are.” she said.
Jake looked all around the battlefield and he felt the rush of emotion washing over him. He knew that Gettysburg was a historical place of humanity and he couldn’t believe that he was actually here.
“What is there to do here?” Jake asked, “Are you learning about the American Civil War?”
He was unsure what his next lesson was supposed to entail, but the Battlefield of Gettysburg seemed like a very unusual choice.
“There was not only the Civil War,” said Y/N, “But there were other battles here as well. The Seven Sins… against the Demi-Warriors.”
“There was a war with Demi-Warriors? What are you implying?”
“Your father was a Serpent, or a demon hunter. Your mother was a mortal here on Earth, but went to Heaven and trained alongside him.”
Jake’s eyes widened.
“My mother was a demon hunter as well? She never said that to me.”
Jake was confused. He never knew that there was more to his family than he thought there was.
Why didn’t she tell me about it , he thought, looking out at the battlefield.
“In order to keep you safe, your mother said we must never speak of her current position. Otherwise, it would attract more demons and other evil and potentially dangerous creatures. And when I was summoned to her at ten years old, she told me to find you once we reached high school, where I would be able to protect you.”
Jake tried to make sense of everything that Y/N had just said. He looked at her with perplexity.
“So…my mother summoned you…and she kept you hidden from me all of these years? Why would she do that? What was so important about keeping our family a secret?”
“She thought that you wouldn’t understand at a young age, or at your coming-of-age birthday party. She tried to keep it hidden until the right time came, when you were old enough to train and become one with Heaven and Earth.”
“My mother was trying to convince me to become one with Earth?” Jake asked.
He thought there was something different about him, but he didn’t know what it was or why his mother had never told him about it. Now that Y/N had explained everything to him, he finally understood why she had been so secretive about their family history.
“There is a balance in everything. Worlds as well. Earth and Heaven are compatible, but lack balance.”
So…Heaven and Earth aren’t meant to be separate worlds , he thought, They just need to function properly. That could take a lot of strength.
It all began to make sense now. His mother’s desire for him to become one with Heaven and Earth, the war between Demi-Warriors and the Seven Sins that took place at the historical battlefield.
“Focus on what the King’s image of a perfect world would be.” said Y/N.
Jake closed his eyes. He imagined people living in harmony, without fear or suffering. There would be peace and love taking over the world instead of war and conflict. He imagined Heaven and Earth finally becoming one, and it was an amazing sight to behold in his mind.
The ground began to shake. The second lesson began. Jake immediately opened his eyes and felt this earthquake for a sudden reason.
“What’s happening?” Jake asked frantically.
“Lesson Two: Art of a Battlefield.” said Y/N, “Now you are to put yourself in the midst of war. You must use your mind, sword and your determination to defeat all of the Devil’s henchmen. And just so you know, they are not real. Just a disclaimer.”
The calm battlefield turned into a fiery and bloody sight as demons swarmed everywhere, blowing fire everywhere. And the Seven Sins advanced at him directly.
SWISH-SWOOSH!!
His sword was powerful to destroy two of them. He then bent backwards to avoid being ambushed by another. He took flight and speeded all around them to make them dizzy. He moved swiftly, and destroyed another one. He flew to the other side and ambushed another one.
Take that!
The rest of the Seven Sins charged for him. Jake threw his hands for cover and his forces exploded the last of the henchmen. Jake looked all around as he found himself the only one surviving from the practice battle. And then, the battlefield returned to its calm appearance.
Y/N floated down with a winning smile and said, “Well done. You have completed this lesson.”
They then teleported back to school. Not a single student noticed they were missing. Jake was relieved he was back at home. But he was suddenly disappointed that the next lesson went by so quickly.
It was over so soon… , he thought.
“Don’t worry, Jake,” said Y/N, “I’ll be right beside you.”
“I know I still may have a long way to go, but I’m ready for more. Can you help me reach my full potential?”
“Your mother and I will always be there…no matter what happens.”

Jake entered the classroom…it was empty. He looked all around for a moment, wondering if his homeroom teacher had already left for the day.
“I guess everyone left for the day.” he mumbled to himself.
Y/N entered.
“You made it.” said Jake.
“I am an Angel. I can take care of myself.” Y/N replied.
“Then I guess I shouldn’t worry about you.”
“Are you ready?”
“For what?”
Y/N brought Jake outside of the backyard of the school. Jake was confused and stood still. Frozen.
“Lesson Three: Controlling Your Power. Also known as the Art of Healing.” Y/N said.
Jake had not been able to control his powers fully, and he had hoped that this next lesson would help him gain more control over them.
Y/N created a figure that looked exactly like him. Jake gasped at his transformation. He was surprised that it looked so realistic and couldn’t believe his eyes.
“How did you…did you just make another me?” he asked, confused.
“He can’t speak, or hear you,” said Y/N, “Here is what you’ll do. I want you to stab it.”
Jake felt hesitant to do this. He was fascinated by this creation, but he did not want to hurt it. But it wasn’t a real human, but only a recreation. It couldn’t hear, or say anything. He didn’t want to disobey his own best friend and teacher.
“It seems wrong,” he said, “Why would you want me to do that?”
“Remember when I stabbed you for the first time? I was proving to you that I was in fact not just a human. I want you to do the same thing to him. Stab and revive his wound.”
Jake nodded in understanding and he looked at his lookalike. He felt nervous about what he was about to do. But he knew that it was a part of training.
“How do I go about stabbing him?” he asked.
“He is going to say the exact things you said to me, when you didn’t believe that I was an Angel.”
He was shocked by her response and he looked at her with a puzzled expression on his face.
“When I stab him, he is going to say the same things I said to you. How do you know that?”
Jake was curious how the lookalike was going to mimic his words and actions. Y/N mentally commanded the artificial lifeform to actually mimic the words that Jake had actually said.
“ I think you’re messing with me, there is no way they are real. Oh, please. Don’t preach your religion to me. I am not interested, one bit! I only believe in what I see and what I can feel, not just some made up stories about Angels and demons! ”
Hearing his own words threw him. It was a feeling of great regret. He was angry for saying those things to Y/N. Now that he had bonded with her, he felt as if he had already been forgiven.
And so, he gathered all of his anger…and therefore stabbed him.
The lookalike screamed and moaned in pain. But there was something strange about it. Jake lifted him up and closed the wound and healed it. All on his own. The figure stood up and smiled before disappearing away.
What just happened? Jake asked in his thoughts, Did I just revive myself?
“This is known as the Healing Method. It works on humans and animals. You can’t get hurt much, as your wounds already regenerate.”
“Impressive,” said Jake, “I won’t have much to worry about getting hurt, then.”
“And your mother as well. She cares for you the most, you must not forget about her.”
“You’re right, Y/N. My mother loves me the most. I can use this ability to take care of her more. I thank you for showing me this ability. It will come in handy when I need to protect the people I love.”
“There is one last thing we need to train you on.”
“What is it?”
“Your compassion rate.”
“My compassion rate?”
“You must make sure that your compassion rate stays as sky high as possible. If not, then others will think that you are a monster coming from Hell and won’t trust you at all.”
Jake felt anxious. He hadn’t realized that it was important to keep his compassion high. But, he also needed to be careful not to lose control over his emotions.
“I…I understand. I’ll keep my compassion as high as possible. Sky high in the least.”
“If you have trouble letting out your feelings other than in your usual way, come talk to me or your mother, and then we can figure something out.”
“I appreciate that you are willing to help me with my emotions and compassion. I’ll make sure to come and talk to you or my mother if I have any problems.”
The human figure that disappeared turned into a baby dragon. It flew into his arms and cuddled up with him. Jake awed. He felt a wave of tenderness overcome him. He couldn’t help but feel happy and warm on the inside, knowing that this lesson had been well worth it.

After a long day of training, Y/N carried a fast asleep Jake to his home with the baby dragon. She found that his mother opened the window to his bedroom. She laid him on his bed. Worried that something might attack, she and the baby dragon slept with him on both sides.
The next morning, Y/N and Jake went out to the shopping center. They were sitting at a comfortable bench near the middle of the outdoor food court, when Y/N noticed a shadowy figure racing towards her. But Jake was already falling asleep, not knowing about the creature. He felt anxiety and his heart beating faster. He did not know what to do, but he needed to protect Y/N and the baby dragon.
Suddenly, the baby dragon roared and blocked it away. Jake lifted his sleepy head and noticed that the baby dragon protected them. The dragon purred and licked Jake’s cheek.
“Such a good baby dragon.” Jake cooed, petting the little creature’s head.
“You all right, there?” Y/N asked, “You were a bit sleepy for a moment. Sorry I couldn’t wake you up.”
“I guess my brain needed rest. After all, I did have a full day of training the day before. I thank you for worrying about me.”
“The baby dragon’s name is Jino. I found him after his family struggled to return from battling against the forces of Hell.”
“I’m sorry to hear that. He must have dealt with so much. I’m glad you found him and took care of him. How old is he?”
“He’s just a baby. About seven months already.”
“Seven months,” said Jake, cradling the dragon in his arms, “Well then…I guess that makes me his big brother.”
Y/N frowned. Jake grew concerned about this.
“Something wrong? Did I say something?”
“N-no,” said Y/N, “I just…miss my family and everything. I understand why I came to live in the real world too. It wasn’t just to protect you. It was…to start a new life. To make it right for me.”
She felt a tear. Jake was quick enough to catch it.
“Don’t cry,” he said, “I know you miss your family so much. But they are watching over you in Heaven. They will be so proud of you, protecting people here.”
“I’m sorry,” Y/N sniffling, “It’s just been so hard for me. I lost my mother…and I had to come to Earth by your mother at a really young age. I’ve been through so much. But with you…I can truly understand how I can make things right.”
“It’s normal to miss your family. It shows you have a big heart. That’s how big your compassion is. And…I’m glad I’m able to help you make it what is best for you. You are not alone anymore.”
Jake smiled warmly. He was starting to feel the butterflies fluttering inside his stomach. He was lucky to have Athena right by his side.
Time had passed. Y/N and Jake were enjoying ice cream together. School was out officially and into Summer break.
“Y/N…I have something to tell you.”
Y/N turned to Jake and looked into his eyes.
“What is it, my sweet?” Y/N asked with a soft voice and a smile.
“Well,” Jake stammered, “I have been thinking about our relationship for quite a while now…and I think it’s time for me to tell you how I feel.”
“Please, tell me.”
“I think…I have feelings for you. I know it’s unexpected, but I wanted to be honest with you. Tell you how I feel. And if you don’t feel the same way…then I’m happy to accept us as just friends.”
“Jake…I have feelings for you, too. I am so happy that we can admit our feelings for each other.”
“I promise that I’ll always be there for you to protect you, no matter what happens.”
Suddenly there was a rumble and trembling.
“Y/N…what’s happening?!”
“It’s here.” Y/N mumbled.
“Who?” asked Jake.
He could feel this adrenaline wash over him. He could not believe that there was something really out there that was causing the ground to tremble and shake.
ROAR!!!
There was a loud roar. It startled both of them.
“What was that?!”
Y/N drew out her sword.
“Get ready…there is something big coming here… something really, really big!”
A huge dragon came upon them and let out a great big and deafening roar.
“Impossible!” whispered Jake.
“The Jabberwocky.” whispered Y/N.
Jake slowly drew out his sword and watched how the big black dragon advanced towards them. He wanted to get out of there. But he could sense something that was wrong and caused it to have such a villainous break out.
“Mama!” purred the baby dragon to Y/N.
But Jake looked at the baby dragon and was overcome with surprise. He couldn’t believe that the little creature thought that the Jabberwocky was its mother.
“That’s not your mother, buddy!” said Jake, trying to pull him away from the bigoted creature.
“You’re right…it’s not…” said Y/N, “…it’s mine! We have to get her out of there!”
“She’s cursed!” shouted Jake.
“Exactly!”
After Y/N’s father was killed during the war in the Gettysburg battlefield, her mother was taken by Lucifer the Seven Sins. The creature didn’t seem like itself either. It had become something else entirely.
“Quickly! Use this!” Y/N said, tossing a leather bag of powder.
“Isn’t this…?”
“It’s the powder I used to create the tree’s life. But it could also lift a curse. These types of antidotes are very rare to find and preserve. But curing the curse is the difficult bit. The best way to revive a curse is to find the weak spot, where the curse was struck at.”
The baby took flight and swarmed around the dragon, but it then simply perched atop of its head.
“I think Jino found it! Look! On top of his head!” Jake said, flying up to the baby dragon.
“Use a pinch!” called Y/N, “It is very powerful!”
Well…here goes nothing , Jake thought, sprinkling the powder on top of the creature’s head, which understandably landed on top of Jino’s head. The baby dragon shook it off and it landed on the weak spot.
The dragon began to feel the power in the potion’s powder. It then collapsed and fell with a loud, deafening thud, almost like an explosion. And then…the body of her mother floated into the sky, and to Heaven. Y/N knew she was all right. She had never cried so hard. Suddenly, she floated in the air and spread out her wings. But they turned white, shedding out the black feathers.
Jake ran to catch her as she floated back down. Y/N was swooning but regained consciousness.
“Are you alright? You are not hurt, are you?” Jake said, concerningly.
“I am okay,” said Y/N, “This is what happens when an Angel completes her compassion. She transforms her wing color. We call this the Final Transformation. Some choose to be a Battle Angel, but others prefer to become an Angel. A lot of these things take time…but you and I shared so much for each other. I am so proud of you. Your mother should as well.”
Jake looked at Y/N in awe and wonder as he watched her wings transform into a white feathers. He couldn’t believe how beautiful she was in her Angel form.
“Y/N…” he stammered as he gently touched her wings,“You’re…you are so…beautiful! It’s incredible…I don’t know what to say!”
“You don’t have to say anything. You have officially completed your training.”
Jake felt proud that he had completed his training and that he had helped her to transform into an Angel. But then they both frowned.
“But I forgot…” Jake said, “You have to return to Heaven. I should have known.”
“If I had not kissed you from the day we met, then I wouldn’t have stayed for so long. But your mother sent me here to help you, so I had to. But then…we fell in love during our training lessons. It made it harder for me to go back. And now we have rescued my mother…I must return. I have done everything I can to help you.”
“All this time I thought we could really be together. But we are born in two different dimensions. Heaven and Earth.”
“I will be glad to stay with you tonight. But that means I would have to return to Heaven for three months.”
“You would be gone for so long,” said Jake, “Talk to your mother, see if she can change her mind about letting you stay here. I…I don’t know if I could handle being away from you for so long, Y/N.”
“Well…there is a way I can still see you every day.”
“What is it?”
It is said that Angels come and visit their loved ones. Whether they are asleep or awake. It is one of their ways of making sure they are all well.
During their final hours of being together, Y/N and Jake were sitting on a bench park, watching the sunset together.
“Y/N,” said Jake, in a soft tone, looking over to her, “I want to thank you one final time for everything that you have done for me. To this day I still think I could be more than what I am today. You are not only my best friend, but you are my soulmate, all rolled into one. I love you so much for it.”
“A lot has happened,” said Y/N, “You begged me to bring your homework the first time we met, and now here you are, now a demon slayer.”
“It’s been quite a journey. But during our time together…I’ve changed. I’ve become a much better man. I’ve met other kinds of people and creatures along the way and I wouldn’t be where I am today without your help. And I thank you again for helping me become a demon slayer.”
The last bead of light passed through the hill in front of the little town. As they were about to kiss, Y/N whisked away into the nighttime sky. Jake couldn’t help but feel so sad. He knew that she would come back every night to visit him, now that she was an Angel. But, he missed her deeply. He took a deep breath and let the moonlight wash over his pale skinned face.
While in his room, he cried. But he had to stay strong.
I may feel sad…but it doesn’t mean that I shouldn’t feel weak. I may not be able to see her in the day…but at least she can see me in the evening.
“I love you, Y/N…” he whispered as he laid still, breathing the soft and beautiful night air.
He closed his eyes and tried to find sleep.
