A moon in the sky (a life lost at sea)

Summary:

Beidou rescued Kazuha from drowning, or so she thought.

Notes:

Look I was bored and had nothing to do so I uhh…

TWs: drowning, major character death

I did research and yes it is apparently possible to die even after ur rescued from drowning (it’s called secondary drowning or something)

Work Text:

It was supposed to be just another journey.

(I should’ve known that one day, the sea take something dear to me.)

A storm came, a big one. Almost as big as the one that happened when Osial was reawakened.

(That should’ve been enough of a bad omen.)

He insisted on being the one to tie down the sails.

(Why did I let him? Why didn’t I do it myself, or get one of the others to do it?)

A terribly strong gust of wind blew him off and he fell into the sea.

(He loved the wind, so I did too. But he’s not here anymore, and I hate the wind.)

Immediately I jumped in and swam my hardest to reach his unconscious body.

(Was I too slow? Was I too weak?)

I grabbed his hand and swam back to the Alcor. I climbed aboard and rushed belowdecks.

(It was all for nothing, wasn’t it?)

I did CPR on him. I was so relieved when he coughed water out of his lungs and he slowly woke.

(I didn’t realise he was already slipping away.)

He smiled and said, “The moon is beautiful tonight, Beidou. Thank you for everything.”

(It breaks my heart how he thanked me even though I failed him.)

I asked about the moon. “Nothing, Captain,” he replied. “Something we say in Inazuma.”

(After he left, I found out that it’s how Inazumans say “I love you.”)

I nodded and told him to rest well, and he fell asleep.

(He never woke up.)

He was a fugitive. He was a wanderer. He is a member of my crew.

(Above all, he is my son. He will always be a part of my family, even if he’s dead.)
