Work Text:
Liam has experienced it before. Some guys talking behind his back after the war. Calling him a freak or a bomb waiting to go off. It happened so often that he doesn’t acknowledge it as more than just white noise at this point. They have never done more than just talk, but this boy seemed to be extra confident today. Trying to prove to his friends that he wasn’t scared of anything, not even a werewolf.
He approached Liam at his locker. “Hey, mutt.” Liam turned around to stare at the boy in front of him. He had to look up slightly at how close the other guy was. He could feel his breathing and their chests were almost touching.
Liam pushed the guy away gently. “Please step away and leave me alone. I’m not dealing with any of this today,” he said as he turned around to walk away. The guy scoffed at Liam’s dismissal.
“What? Are you scared?” He continued egging him on. As Liam continued to walk away the guy ran up and grabbed him by the shoulder. He threw Liam against the locker making him fall to the floor. The werewolf stared up at the guy with a low simmer of rage underneath his skin. He controlled his breathing and brushed it off. He tried to stand up again when he was pushed back down slamming into the locker again. “Awww. Will your mommy ground you if you get kicked out of another school?” It was slowly harder to control himself, but Liam was determined to not give into his anger.
He was lifted up by his shirt pinned against the locker face to face with the boy again. He had his fist raised and Liam closed his eyes at the expected punch that never came. Before he even opened his eyes, he could smell an anger that wasn’t his. When he did look however it was Theo who was holding the guys fist while his eyes flared into their amber color.
Liam was released as Theo continued to break the guys fist if the cracking had any indication. Liam was slightly stunned as he has never seen Theo like this before. Before Liam knew it the boy was pinned by his throat against the locker. His feet dangled off the ground as he gasped for air.
“Let him down.” The tension in the air was palpable as Liam was trying to diffuse the situation. “Theo. I said let him down.” Theo glared back at the beta. His eyes were yellow and his claws were out. Liam would probably be able to stop Theo, but if he approached Theo he would crush the guy’s windpipes. The guy was gasping for air and if Liam did anything they would have to dispose of a body. “For me?” Theo threw the body to the side in response to the small plea.
“That’s progress,” Liam muttered to himself. “Theo. Come on, he didn’t mean it.” Liam didn’t know he said that. He knew Theo could tell he was lying, but this was the only thing Liam could come up with. It only made Theo angrier. Liam would kick himself later for that.
This was new to Liam. Theo never really got mad, he was always in control. So Theo being angry was scary for Liam. Even when he was evil he had never seen Theo like this. So why was it so bad?
Liam was lost in his head that he didn’t even realize that Theo was approaching him. Looking like an animal stalking his prey. It was as if Theo was taken over by an animal. “Theo?” Liam was scared, not of getting hurt, but of losing Theo. He moved as if he was following a scent rather than actually seeing where he was going. Liam slowly moved forward not to cause any sudden movements. He reached for the chimera’s face and placed one of his hands on his cheek before the guy, who Theo threw, tried to tackle the chimera.
Theo seemed completely unphased by the attempted tackle. The boy fell over at the attempt. Liam facepalmed at how completely stupid this boy was. What is it with guys at this school trying to prove their masculinity? Theo looked away from Liam to stare at the boy. He was quietly calm, which Liam thought would be less scary, but was proven horribly wrong.
At this point he deserves to die. Liam thought to himself. The next thing he knew Theo’s foot was on the boy’s sternum. From the audible crack and the whimpering of pain coming from the boy Liam could tell that he didn’t like being stepped on. The boy looked at Liam with pleading eyes. The tears slowly streaming down his face could’ve told anyone he wanted to leave. Theo leaned down wrapping his hand around the boy’s throat as he did before. “Okay Theo. That’s enough.” No response again. Liam knew it wouldn’t work, but he had to try.
With one wrong move this would be over so Liam had to be very careful with his approach. “Theo. Come on. Let’s go home.” Liam wanted desperately for Theo to leave it alone, but he couldn’t blame him. If he was in his position he would’ve done the same. What if I approach this like Theo would if it was me instead? Liam had nothing really left to lose. He already tried the gentle approach which had no effect on Theo.
Liam rushed to grapple Theo and pull him off the guy. Liam held Theo down as he yelled at the boy. “Go now before I let him tear your throat out!” The desperate scamper was something Liam would laugh about later, but at the moment he had to deal with a pissed off chimera, who he so happened to call his boyfriend. Theo was struggling letting out growls as he tried to break from Liam’s grasp. “Hey Theo calm down, it's just me. It’s Liam.” He managed to break out of Liam’s hold resulting in him pinning Liam down by the wrist as he sat on top of him.
The beta was now the one who was struggling. His boyfriend’s eyes were still golden and his fangs were still out, but at least his claws have retracted. It was a small win for Liam. He looked around glaring at the others who were watching the whole ordeal. Growling at all of them, causing them to run, if they haven’t already. As the noise started to die down all Liam could hear was his breathing and Theo’s heartbeat. They stared at each other for what felt like an eternity.
Theo’s grip loosened as his fangs started to retract. His eyes were still gold, but that was something Liam could deal with. “Hey. I’m okay. Relax okay?” They weren’t the couple who was soft all the time. They never really have these kinds of moments. It has always been more of an aggressive type of foreplay with each other. Always some snarky comments or threats. Even when they cuddled it was aggressive. This was uncharted territory.
Liam managed to slip his hand from Theo’s grip as he slowly brushed one of the hairs that had fallen on the boy’s face. He could now see the boy better as they had an intense staring contact. Neither of them wanted to look away from each other. Theo slowly lowered himself onto Liam, resting on his forearms now while he was flush against Liam’s body. Their faces got incredibly close, which Liam expected would result in a kiss, but instead only got puppy licks.
It was strangely animalistic, but at the same time felt like Theo. Liam used his hands to pull Theo closer to him. He rubbed the other’s back and slotted his head onto his shoulder, causing his body to go slack.
“I have neve seen you like this. Do you want to talk about it?” Liam didn’t want to push, but could tell that this was something they needed to talk about.
Theo let out a sigh. “I don’t know what came over me. I just saw that guy hurting you and I wanted to rip his head off.” Liam hummed in response, subtly encouraging Theo to continue. “I can’t lose you.” Theo squeezed Liam as if he was about to be taken away from him at any moment.
“I can handle myself. No one is going to take me away from you. The ghost riders, Monroe, and even hell hasn’t kept you away from me. I don’t know how a stupid little high schooler is going to keep me from you.” Theo let out a little huff in response. He just nuzzled in more and closed his eyes knowing that Liam wouldn’t go away.
