Work Text:
Yoongi wasn’t even aware it’s Valentines Day before he overhears them talking. First of all, it’s capitalistic exploitation and maybe a charade of the flower and chocolate industry right behind Christmas and Easter and somebody should look into it and overturn the whole thing but many are freakishly obsessed with such days and relationships as a whole, while they should realize that romantic relationships won’t make them magically better and happier people just because their nature is romantic- secondly, he’s painfully single, as always.
Like, sue him, but he would have totally gotten chocolate or something for his partner. Even if it’s capitalist exploitation, etc. But alas, he’s single, and didn’t think about the day. It started out as just another February day, kind of too cold and rainy for Yoongis liking but simultaneously perfect to curl up under a blanket while working and drink something hot. Now that Yoongi thinks about it, Valentines Day could be the reason he’s so entirely schedule-free today. The company schedules them regular free days now, they aren’t getting any younger after all and need rest. But it’s probably today, so Namjoon and Seokjin can have one of their date-outings that isn’t pressed in between work. it’s kind of sweet of the company to give them that, Yoongi thinks.
Unlike Bangtans power couple, he’d woken up in the morning as usual, drank his decaf hunched over their table getting pestered by Jimin. Then he’d realized they are out of some must-have Korean ingredients and decided to make an early run into the supermarket, hoping the fresh air would wake him up fully and also speed-start his brain juices a little. Concentrated on hiding his face and his little grocery list, he must have walked right past the red roses and chocolate displays they definitely had up in the market. Not something he’s proud of, but when he’s sleepy and focused it’s not strange occurrence.
Now though, grocery bag in hand, back home, he’s been made aware. Of all people, by Jungkook and Taehyung. They are sitting in the living room huddled together and staring at Jungkooks phone, music doodling in the background. Probably the reason they didn’t hear Yoongi come in, he half-expected them to jump him and ask where he was. He was kind of looking forward to it even. Jungkooks hugs are always a great way to start the day, he’s nicely warm and his hugs just give Yoongi that particular mix of good feelings: enveloping safety, cuteness aggression, being at home.
Jungkook and Taehyung aren’t dating anyone currently, and Yoongi really had the impression they both flit from one hook-up to another, careful and sneaky. It’s what he’s been doing, although he was so busy recently, he can’t really remember when the last time was. Nothing unusual in this industry. But Taehyung did just say, “Oh right, it’s Valentines”.
They are curled up on the couch together, Taehyung sprawled over Jungkook to also look at his phone. It looks a little uncomfortable, like he needs to be tense to not fall down, but Yoongi knows how nice it actually is. Sue him, anybody would use the chance to cuddle into those man boobs if they could. Cuddling Jungkook gives him similar feelings to hugging him, just amplified and so much longer.
The statement makes Jungkook nod, biting his lip ring again. He’s been doing that. A lot. Yoongi had stopped in his tracks, contemplating Valentines’ Day and everything around it and Namjoon and Jin so now he’s hovering weirdly in the corridor, perfectly in earshot but out of sight.
“Just look at it, it’s perfect!”, Jungkooks says now, pointing at something on his phone with his nose, since his hands are occupied. Yoongi wavers backwards on his socked feet, until he can only see their feet. Jungkook is wearing his toe socks again. They are equal parts obnoxious and endearing, sadly enough.
When Taehyung only hums non-committedly, Jungkook groans. It seems a little exaggerated, but also genuine. “You don’t know how to appreciate art! Just look, the shirt is cute, the hair is perfect! I need it.”
“I don’t think a Valentines’ Day Outfit should cost that much,” Taehyung questions carefully.
Yoongis eyes widen. An outfit? For Valentines’ Day? That Jungkook wants to buy? There must be some news he missed. Or Jungkook didn’t tell him. Inside Yoongi, it feels like a knot is slowly being tied, his insides winding and tightening around nothing, uncomfortable. Probably because he doesn’t know such a big part of Jungkooks life. They are best friends, he should be one of the first to know.
Inside the living room, the argument is still going.
“But it’s Valentines! I need to wear something fitting.”
“You literally don’t, you already look good.”
“But it’s not dressed for the occasion!”, comes another whine. And Yoongi realizes he’s been listening in on their conversation far too long. This is awkward. He’s hovering in the corridor with the groceries and feeling weird, serves him right. Taking a deep breath and trying to ignore the deep unease in his stomach, he suddenly walks again, stomping just a little so they’ll hear him.
Both look up when he steps into the room fully, grins widening when they recognize him. He mumbles a good morning at them, and Taehyung jumps up to give him a hug. It feels nice, warmth and comfort settling a little into Yoongi. “Tell Jungkook he’s being ridiculous,” Taehyung beckons him into their argument with puppy eyes.
Normally Yoongi would have played a long. Would have let them use him to fuel their petty argument until they play-fight around him and use him as a shield at which point he’d start complaining too and flee the scene. Now though, he really doesn’t feel up for it. So he lifts the grocery bag and ruffles it a little, the plastic crinkling soundly. “You boys talk that out alone, I gotta put this away.”
“aw man,” Taehyung sighs, but lets go and only lightly slaps his ass when he passes them to the kitchen. He doesn’t react to it, or look back, even when he hears a much louder slap.
“I avenged you, Yoongi-hyung!”, Jungkook howls. Yoongi cracks a grin and lifts his free hand to give him a thumbs up over his shoulder before disappearing into the kitchen. Their layout is pretty open, so he can still hear them easily. Quickly, he starts putting away the groceries, thinking already about hiding in his room. He suddenly has the urge to lie in bed and eat some comfort snacks. Must be the weird swooping in his belly he can’t get rid of suddenly. Something is just off today.
It will be lunch time soon. If Jungkook needs a valentines day outfit, he’s going on a date. Will he be here for lunch? Should Yoongi cook something up, for them, Taehyung, maybe Jimin or Hoseok too if they’re still here? But Jungkook is still contemplating the outfit on his phone. So he’ll still need to go buy it. Unless he orders it. Right when he puts the Soy sauce away, the last item in his bag, there’s a loud sigh from the living room.
“You really bought it.”
Jungkook laughs, probably at Taehyungs overwhelmingly acted out disappointment. “Not like I don’t have the money.”
“That doesn’t mean you need to buy every outfit you see that’s kind of cool,” Taehyung says. Which is a little weird. Taehyung literally is into fashion and buys clothes himself all the time. Yoongi wouldn’t have thought he would tell Jungkook not to do so. But their argument already continues. Every word makes Yoongi feel worse, where he’s kneeling in front of the cabinet. “What even are you gonna do, all dressed up?”
“Take him on a little swan boat lake tour,” Jungkooks says, as if that’s the natural thing to do. “And there’s a little campfire, look! Totally romantic vibes. And I can set off some fireworks, it’s perfect.”
Taehyung only groans. And Yoongi had enough. He shuts the cabinet door, a little louder than planned, gets up and makes his way to his room. Taehyung and Jungkooks voices fade. The silence is bone-crushing. Why is he so upset? Oh god, he almost feels like crying! And Yoongi has no idea why. The only thing he learned today was Jungkook going on a Valentines Date, which is… just a thing. Nothing spectacular, right?
The date can’t even be that cool anyway. It’s literally February, who wants to go on a boat on the water where it’s cold and moist. And campfires aren’t romantic, you just sit there until the smoke blows in your face and you have to sit somewhere else. Yoongi wouldn’t enjoy that anyway. Not that he wants to go on that date. It’s just Jungkooks date, his taste. Yoongi wouldn’t like it. He’s not jealous at all, about such an outing.
Because there’s no reason to be jealous anyway, right? It’s just his best friend going on some date. Yoongi lets himself fall flat onto his bed. This crushing sadness suddenly enveloping him so entirely is kind of killing him. It feels like his heart is breaking. Which it shouldn’t be. He’s supposed to be fine. Cause if he’s jealous of Jungkook going on a date, that would mean he doesn’t want Jungkook to go on a date with someone else. Kind of implying he wants Jungkook to go on a date with himself. As if he’s in love with Jungkook.
Which he isn’t, right? he’d know. He’d definitely know. Yoongi curls in on himself, facing the wall. He’s staring at it blankly. He’d know. He’d definitely know. It’s not like he’s in love with his best friend and didn’t know. Right?
As his thoughts seem to be spiraling, Yoongi decides to get everything under control. Install some order. Calmly. He can do it. So, is he in love with Jungkook? He likes him, for sure. A lot. Jungkook is always kind, to everyone, and Yoongi admires him for it. He’s a brat often, annoying and loud, wheedling food out of Yoongi. But he never crosses the line with him, or anyone else, into exploiting their soft spot for him. And it’s all kind of endearing anyway, isn’t it? Jungkook can be cute and awfully cuddly, touchy-feely. Yoongi likes that too. He’d been thinking about it earlier, right? that he’d love some Jungkook cuddles.
There’s also the thing that Jungkook is undeniably hot. It’s been getting kind of worse lately. He sends gym selfies to the group chat, and on more than one occasion Yoongi remembers opening these, only daring to look for a few seconds before never doing so again. Why did he do that? It just felt… overwhelming. Like something would happen if he stared too long, like something within him would rise, a wave taking him over and away, to a point he won’t be able to return from.
On top of all that, Jungkook also just fits perfectly with Yoongi. They are similar in ways he’s never imagined, never experienced. He’s comfortable with Jungkook, feels at home in his arms. And Yoongi himself does dote on him a lot. Always gives in to his puppy eyes. He keeps buying Jungkook food and keeps praising him to see is eyes light up.
But that’s just cause Jungkook is his best friend, Yoongi thought. But just to be sure, he does a quick WWPJS (WhatWouldParkJiminSay). Cause jimin knows him, too well sometimes. And when Yoongi talks to him about serious things, he always seems to hit the nail on the head, tells Yoongi how it is, even if Yoongi didn’t want to hear it or never even contemplated that option. So he closes his eyes and imagines telling all of that to Jimin. Imagines his face, how he’d definitely judge Yoongi for going on a rant about Jungkook. Again.
Wait- he did it before. Just last week, Jimin told him to shut up about Jungkook. The Jimin in Yoongis mind is suddenly very clear and precise. There’s a little pity in his eyes, and a little impatience. Yoongi has seen that look in real life before. His Mind-Jimin definitely thinks Yoongi is in love with Jungkook. And Jimin is always right. Imagined or real, he’s never led Yoongi down a wrong path.
Well. Guess he’s fucked then.
About half an hour later Jungkook knocks at his door and lets himself in. He’s been doing that. Yoongi fake-protested, but didn’t really mind. Now he knows why. He hasn’t moved from his spot on the bed, only rolled himself up in the blankets properly to stare at the ceiling. Because realizing you’re in love with your best friend is one thing. Realizing it when your best friend is planning a Valentines’ Date, not with you, is another. Needless to say, Yoongi is not having a good time right now.
When Jungkook knocks he recognizes the specific way he knocks easily (god he’s really a lost cause) so he knows Jungkook won’t take no for an answer. Well, he will, if Yoongi had the strength to refuse him coming in. Like this, he quickly wipes his face on his pillow (he’s been crying just a little) and tries to practice-smile, hyping himself up. A part of him knows it won’t work though, he’s never been able to hide much from Jungkook.
“Hyung, I wanna show you something!”, Jungkook exclaims once he shut the door behind him, skipping over towards Yoongi. “Scoot over.”
Yoongi in his blanket cocoon does his best to make space. He has a huge bed, but he’d been lying in the middle of it and it takes some wiggling while Jungkook impatiently tuts by the bedside. Eventually Jungkook seems satisfied with the space he received and plummets down, stretching and squirming until he’s comfortable.
“Are you so cold? Should I turn the heat up?”, Jungkook questions. He’s turning on his phone but puts it down again before showing Yoongi anything. He seems a little concerned about the blanket-burrito situation Yoongi got going on. Rightly so. But yoongi doesn’t want him to know. Not that it helps him.
Jungkook just needs to slightly lift himself again, a questioning pout ready as he searches to meet Yoongis eyes. And Yoongi did stop crying before he came in, but Jungkook has seen him almost every day of his life since he was a little teenager. So no, the wiped away tears and fake smile do not fool him in the lightest. His face falls, concern dawning upon him. And Yoongi, so used to seeking comfort in one of his best friends, feels his mask slide off, just enough to reveal he is in fact still sad and didn’t just stub his toe somewhere.
“Oh god, Hyung!”, Jungkook whispers in terror, “What happened?”
To Yoongi, it’s just a little funny how quickly Jungkooks mood has changed, how absolutely horrified he seems at the bare hint of Yoongi crying. He snorts quietly, but it doesn’t feel right to laugh either so he shoves that notion down again, and out comes a kind of wet tiny noise. That could be interpreted as about anything. Jungkook seems to think he’s gonna start crying again.
“Don’t cry! Please, it’s okay, it’s gonna be all fine! Are you hurt? Don’t cry, you know I’m gonna cry too,” he rambles at Yoongi and scrambles to half-sit up, reaching for Yoongi. Who is still mainly covered in blanket. Jungkook certainly tries to hug him anyway, tugging him closer while petting his hair. And despite everything, despite Jungkook being the reason he’s like this, Yoongi can’t help but feel comforted. So he doesn’t scramble away, doesn’t mumble about not wanting the hug.
“I’m fine, it’s all okay,” Yoongi answers, closing his eyes and breathing in Jungkooks scent, something that just feels like home. “Don’t worry kook-ah, I’m okay.”
“But you were crying,” Jungkook petulantly defies his statement. He obviously wants to ask what’s going on. But he knows Yoongi as much as Yoongi knows him. So Jungkook knows that if Yoongi doesn’t want to open up now, he won’t. And prying will only worsen it. Jungkook leans back and waits until Yoongi opens his eyes again. They stare at each other inquiringly, until Jungkook recognizes Yoongis mood and gives in. “okay. You know I’m here when you’re ready to talk.”
“I know Jungkookie. Thank you.” Yoongi lets a small smile bloom on his face. Of course he’s afraid of Jungkook finding out, but ultimately, he isn’t too worried. Jungkook is a good man, he wouldn’t judge Yoongi, or distance himself. Hurt him further.
“Okay then lets watch some movies!” Jungkook pets Yoongis hair again, a little too forceful almost, and sits up. Probably to get his laptop which has a huge screen and is perfect for watching movies curled up in bed. “What are you in the mood for? Something good that will make you gush about the cinematographic choices? Something to rant about? Romance? Legally Blond? Frozen?”
Yoongi knows that Jungkook is offering this to distract him. It’s what they do when one of them is feeling sad but not ready to talk it out yet. Just pure distraction. But as much as Yoongi loves to curl up with Jungkook and watch movies, today they shouldn’t. Not when Jungkook has to leave later.
“No,” he starts. Before he can elaborate any further, Jungkooks head whips around comically fast, eyebrows raised, expression appalled. Yoongi has never before declined movie-cuddle-comfort. “You don’t have time, right?”, Yoongi elaborates. He doesn’t want to outright say Jungkook has a date, cause apparently he’s not supposed to know. And now that the crises about his own feelings has settled and he’s in tune with himself, he can recognize that he’s also a little upset Jungkook hadn’t told him about it.
But Jungkook has either forgot about it, or wants to make it difficult. “But I do? Why don’t I have time?”
“Well maybe you still have some time, but you know… eventually you’ll go,” Yoongi trails off, feeling frustrated. Why doesn’t Jungkook just take the hint and say yes? Does he need Yoongi to spell it out?
Apparently yes. “But where? We don’t have any schedules today.”
Yoongi feels slightly ridiculous having a discussion in his blanket cocoon, but he’s unwilling to leave. He’s gonna need the comfort when Jungkook remembers his date and leaves, or worse, gushes about the lucky person. Yoongi does really not want to hear it right now. “Did you forget what day it is?”
“Apparently, yes?” Jungkook looks around, panicked, as if the room will give him an answer. Yoongi groans, staring at the ceiling. Jungkook, still sitting up, is in his vision anyway, handsome even from this unflattering angle. Inwardly, Yoongi tries not to be distracted by his lips, bitten a little pinker in thought now, or his round cheeks. His perfect nose… Ugh, he didn’t know he’d get sappy like this.
And now he also has to power through his conversation, which is really like pulling teeth. Or worse. “February? Fourteenth? Valentines Day?”
“oh,” Jungkook makes, like he finally understands what Yoongi has been telling him. Then he gives another “Oh”, questioning again. “Did I make any appointments for Valentines Day? Why would I?”
“Jungkook”, Yoongi scolds, now kind of upset for real. “Stop it.”
“Stop what? Hyung I don’t know where I’m supposed to go today?”, Jungkook fully turns to him. He’s Yoongis best friend. Yoongi knows him as much as he knows himself. And his sparkly, pretty, pure eyes, that can’t lie. They don’t look like they’re lying now, or teasing. Just confusion, a little hurt.
Yoongi feels bad for causing this emotion, but he didn’t imagine the conversation in the living room. His voice has turned meek when he answers. “Your Valentines Date.”
Jungkook stays confused. “I don’t have a Valentines Date.”
“Of course you do,” Yoongi protests, “You told Tae about it. Just earlier.”
“I can’t tell him about something that isn’t real?” So Jungkook is not giving in. Weird. This is weird. Yoongi knows what he heard. And he also knows Jungkook isn’t lying right now. But that maybe-not-real date made him just realize his feelings, of course it exists.
Now, additional to his sadness, Yoongi is also confused. “But… what about the outfit? You bought a Valentines Day outfit. Why would you do that if not to go on a date?”
“But Hyung there is no date,” Jungkook repeats almost on autopilot. Then, slowly, understanding creeps in his gaze. He seems to waver, like he can’t believe the thought he just had.
Yoongi doesn’t wait before he speaks up again. “What about the swan boat lake thing, or, the campfire? The Fireworks? You should reconsider that lake thing again, though, it’s really not the right weather.”
And Jungkook has the audacity to snort. Not only that, after he snorts again, eyes fixed on yoongi, he starts laughing. Loud and boisterous. His eyes shut with how his cheeks bunch up, he throws himself back into the bed, squirming around a little. Yoongi can feel his own glare turn into a pout. What’s happening now? why is he so out of the loop?
“Jungkook, what is it?”
Between his gasps for breath and new salves of laughter, Jungkook gets out a few words. “You- you thought! Oh my god, a real date! this- oh god it’s hilarious- I can’t-“
Needless to say, Yoongi only sulks more. “Okay, don’t tell me then I guess.”
“wait hyung, I’m sorry!”, Jungkook cries out, finally calming down a little. He’s continuing to giggle though, wiping at his eyes and that smile just doesn’t leave his face. Yoongi has to wait through a few more attempted sentences that end in giggles before Jungkook seems ready to finally talk. Instead, he gets his phone again and opens an app.
While yoongi is sulking, and now even more that Jungkook is just on his phone instead of explaining himself, Yoongi is curious. He leans over a little and spots the In the Seom loading screen. The music he arranged faintly starts in the background. Yoongi is so stunned by it, he doesn’t even tell Jungkook that it’s really uncool of him to play games now, he just watches.
Jungkook navigates to their characters, and clicks on his own. In the Seom Jungkook is cute, in a fancy outfit. Not the one Yoongi remembers all the characters having at the start of this. But what does he know, he doesn’t play the game anymore. Jungkook certainly still does. Finally, a quiet “What?”, escapes Yoongi, and Jungkook turns the screen to him.
“This is the Valentines Day outfit, hyung. They always do new outfits in the game, like Daechwita you,” Jungkook elaborates and clicks on Yoongis character instead, which really is dressed like he was for Daechwita, “and there was a Valentine outfit for my character today. This is what I bought. And I wanted to go on the swan boat in the game, and I can set of fireworks there too. I’m really not going on a date, I promise.”
Well. After this, Yoongi has no choice but to change his name and move to some little town in north Europe where nobody knows him. Where nobody, and Jungkook especially, won’t find him either. For now, he can only slide further into the blanket burrito and hide his flaming cheeks, turn away from Jungkook. This is unbelievably embarrassing. Yoongi has never, never humiliated himself like this. He insisted in Jungkooks face that he had a date, even got upset about it-
Wait. That’s- the date isn’t real. There is no date. Jungkook has no date, he’s single. Which means Yoongis feelings-crises was triggered by fucking In the Seom! A literal game! He groans, feeling like he could sob into his bed again for entirely different reasons. In the background he can hear Jungkook giggling, which is really not helping (!!!) and yoongi whines and kicks his feet a little. He got everything so wrong.
And now he knows he’s in love with Jungkook. But there’s not actually a date. So Yoongi cried for nothing. He was upset for nothing. He thought he’d have to live with a broken heart, but he was just a little dumb. It all makes sense now. Not that Jungkook not having a date right now is a guarantee that he won’t break Yoongis heart, but there’s definitely more hope now.
Something tugs at a few strands of his hair, that must still show above the blanket. Yoongi only makes a noise that should transfer, “I’m never getting out here”. Jungkook only tugs again, then taps at his head. Yoongi wiggles his head to dislodge Jungkooks fingers. How long will he be able to survive inside here? Without food and water… and it’s really warm. But Jungkook will leave, he has too. There’s no food and water out there either. Yoongi tries to not think about the embarrassment he embodies currently, and tries to relax a little in his cocoon.
He should have known better. A few seconds later, Jungkook sighs in exhaustion. Then the mattress trembles. And suddenly the blanket which has protected Yoongi is tugged away. His own hands had still been curled into it and he tries to hold on, but to no avail. He might also go to the gym, but definitely not as much as Jungkook. It only takes a few seconds and Yoongi is defeated, exposed down to his chest. He can feel himself flush, his hair askew, his eyes trying to adjust to the new light. Jungkook kneels above him, grinning sinister.
This is Yoongis only chance to keep this in the room. He wouldn’t hear the end of it, should this get out to the other members. So he reaches out of the blanket and raises his little finger, adopting his best puppy eyes and pout. He knows Jungkook thinks he’s cute. He has said so before, and it doesn’t fail this time either, evident as Jungkooks expression turns softer, a little cooing. “Don’t tell anyone?”, Yoongi mumbles.
A fleeting bout of hesitation passes Jungkook, then he snorts and reaches out to curl his own little finger around Yoongis. His hand is warm. “I hate that we taught you to weaponize that,” he says. And Yoongi could take this further and cluelessly pretend he doesn’t know what it’s about, but he needs Jungkook on his side for this. So he sheepishly smiles and doesn’t defend himself.
While one crisis seems averted, Jungkook suddenly opens another can of worms that Yoongi had already thought he evaded. “Since you refused the distracting move night routine so vehemently, you should talk about what’s bothering you.”
Yoongis smile turns into a grimace. That. “I can’t tell you,” he quickly offers, hoping Jungkook won’t pry much.
He could just tell Jungkook though. Or ask him on a date even. He could try. It’s just so terrifying. Everything is new and raw still, as Yoongi discovered it only some hour ago. But he’s been preaching communication and being open about his feelings for years now. He’s been learning, getting better. Being a good example, instead of a bad one.
“Why?”, Jungkook simply asks and disrupts Yoongis thoughts.
At least he doesn’t have to search for an answer for that. “I think it would make you feel bad.”
“Did I do something?”
Yoongi is already shaking his head before Jungkooks lips can form the last vowels. “Never,” he says and means it. Jungkook has never done anything to deliberately hurt Yoongi. Even today, what really hurt Yoongi was the thought of Jungkook going on a date which he has ever right to do, and he’s not even doing that, as it turns out. “It’s just… a thing. And I guess you’ll feel bad if I tell you and I don’t want that.”
“Oh,” Jungkook makes. He looks a little sad already. Yoongi curses himself and the talk-about-your-feelings personality he’s been trying to adopt. Why can’t he just bottle it all up? It wouldn’t make Jungkook look like this, concerned and a little guilty and struggling. “Would it make you less upset telling me?”
It could. Yoongi believes there’s a chance. A sliver of it. And he wants to tell Jungkook. Wants to let him know he’s loved, so much. He knows Jungkook in and out, knows they’d find a way to stay friends. He’d be nice and courteous, giving Yoongi space if he needed it, or staying his close best friend. “Maybe. But I’m not sure. I don’t know, jungkookie.”
The last few words come out so insecure, Yoongi can see the concern in Jungkooks face worsen. And the resolve to make him feel better. He slides down, until he’s lying with Yoongi again. Reaches over and tugs the blanket back up a little, just to cover Yoongis chest again. He tugs and nudges at Yoongi until they’re both on their sides, upholding a careful mixture of eye contact and staring at each others noses.
“Hyung, will you trust me?”, Jungkook whispers, and already Yoongi realizes he won’t be able to keep silent. That’s the thing when the person you romantically love is already your best friend. You still want their comfort, still want to tell them everything. “I promise it’s okay. Whatever it is, we can share. I’ll just listen, if you want.”
Yoongi loses the mental strength for eye contact entirely, blinking as he stares at Jungkooks mouth. He really wants to kiss him. And maybe- He should just tell him. It’s for the best. If Jungkook rejects him, he can begin right away to try and get over him. He’s only known for like an hour and already has to face the music. Not ideal, but Yoongi thinks it’s better this way. If he’ll sit around with his feelings for just a few more days he’d talk himself out of any hope, out of any chance. He nods to show Jungkook he’ll talk and takes a few deep breaths.
This is hard. He can do it though. He’s Min Yoongi, and Jungkook is the one person he’d ever trust in a situation like this. “I was upset, cause I- Because I just realized I don’t want you to go on any Valentines date if it isn’t with me. But I thought you’re going on a Valentines Date that isn’t with me.”
Yoongi doesn’t dare look up, having settled on Jungkooks shirt-covered chest. It’s a relatively safe view, if he can ignore how he feels about how Jungkooks chest beneath actually looks. There’s silence, stretching out. Yoongi can somehow feel that Jungkook needs some time to understand what he’s actually saying with his cryptic sentences, but nothing beyond that.
It takes several, long seconds, almost a full minute, until Jungkook speaks. “Oh,” he sighs, soft and scratchy voice at once, “hyung.”
And Yoongi, even though he always thinks he knows Jungkook, has no idea what that means. Since it’s not an enthusiastic, equal response, he carefully backpedals. “See, now you feel bad,” he says. And he doesn’t want Jungkook to feel bad, but somehow he, himself, feels better. The secret is out, the weight off Yoongis shoulders. Even though he’s the one with the feelings, it now feels a little like they’re in this together. Jungkook will help him, even if it’s just a comfort hug-
“I actually don’t,” Jungkook loudly declares, and it’s so sudden Yoongi can’t help but look up. Finding… a familiar smile. Jungkooks I’m-so-fucking-happy-smile.
“What?”, Yoongi eloquently questions, because that’s not how someone looks who’ll have to hurt his best friend. Eager, he scoots a little closer, holding his breath.
In the next second Jungkook has leaned in too and is all over him, holding Yoongis face. His hands are warm, gentle, big. His lips capture Yoongis own and it’s a perfect first kiss. A little tentative, a little shy- Yoongi kisses back after a second of shock, his whole body tingling in joy. Jungkook is kissing him! Jungkook! The man he loves is kissing Yoongi! He can’t help smiling a little, and comes to realize he did hold his breath and was then kissed, so he gasps for air against Jungkooks mouth desperately, head already spinning. He’d love to hold him too, but his arms are kind of stuck in the blanket currently. So he can only use his lips to speak for himself, and he pushes even closer, nuzzles into Jungkooks hands while tilting his head and giving them better access.
While he could probably kiss Jungkook for another few hours, just like this, Jungkooks lips part with his after a few minutes. Yoongi is embarrassed to admit he lets out a tiny, pitiful whine. Jungkook chuckles, but he sounds about as emotionally attacked as Yoongi feels when he finally, properly answers him. “I- I’m actually really happy. I’ve had a crush on you since forever and I thought there was just no way for us- I never let myself really fall, you know. And I like you so much still. I’m really happy.”
Now it’s Yoongis turn to go all mushy shock-still, lips still parted and wet. He doesn’t know how, but he manages to clear his throat. “You keep it in for years and I realize and tell you an hour later,” he makes fun of himself, and they both let out twin chuckles, colored in happiness. “I love you,” Yoongi tucks on, because Jungkook deserves to hear it. It doesn’t matter if Jungkook has held himself back and won’t say it back right away. Yoongi will also need time later to come to terms with the fact that Jungkook has had a crush on him for years. Like… he’ll need time to cope.
And they’re already giggling together, but suddenly Jungkook snorts and wiggles around and slaps Yoongis shoulder (gently). “Let me summarize that,” he starts and gasps for breath. And Yoongi feels like he’s set back in time a few minutes, when Jungkook laughed about the In the Seom misunderstanding. He has a bad feeling about this but has to realize no pouting will save him. Jungkook only coos at him, gives him a peck like he isn’t altering Yoongis whole world with being so casual about it, and makes fun of him anyway. “So first, you listened in on me and Taehyung and concluded, wrongly, that I’m going on a Valentines date while I was just buying an In the Seom outfit. Then you went jealous or something immediately, realized you’re in love with me, but thought there’s no hope cause I’m going on a ‘date’ and cried. When I come in, you try to convince me I’m going on a date first and ten minutes later you confess your love? And the cherry on top, I would have put our In the Seom characters together in the swan boat, so you literally went jealous over your own character.”
Yoongi stares at Jungkook, straight-faced. While that was accurate, he never wants to hear about it again. He probably will, he realizes. Cause Jungkook promised to not tell anyone about the misunderstanding on Yoongis part, but that was before he understood it made Yoongi jealous. And now that they’re dating (are they), the others will ask how that came to be. And Yoongi knows Jungkook will tell them the truth, enjoying every second of it. Yoongi is already flushed in embarrassment now, without an audience. This is gonna be torture.
“You’re horrible,” he says.
Jungkook raises both his eyebrows. “Yet you already want to kiss me again,” he accuses. Rightly so. But Yoongi clicks his tongue at him and refuses to give in. Until Jungkook leans forward and stops laughing at him to kiss him, which is the moment Yoongi realizes he will not be able to say no to Jungkook ever again. He kisses him back, no hesitation whatsoever.
It makes Jungkook snort. “I am really sorry about the teasing you’ll have to endure, but really, this is on you,” he states confidently. Yoongi frowns. “I’ll make it up to you. Do you want to go on a Valentines date with me, as my boyfriend? I promise, no swan boat or campfire at all. Just us.”
“I’d love to be your boyfriend. Can we stay in though?”, Yoongi mumbles, “I’ve had a day. We can order take-out.”
“And watch a movie? We can make out throughout every second of it.” That sounds like a good proposal, so Yoongi buries any resistance and nods happily. He gets another kiss as a reward, which is just perfect. Then Jungkook gets up and jumps out of his bed, gesturing at Yoongi to stay put. “I’m gonna take care of the food and prepare my room! I’ll pick you up in like half an hour, dress code is cozy.”
And with that he runs out of the room. Yoongi sinks back into his bed. Jungkook will probably try and clean his floor, frantically look for batteries for his fairy lights and put fresh sheets on his bed. Yoongi is already dressed cozy, so he just has to wait. He grins at the ceiling. He never would have guessed how the day would play out. Who knew In the Seom would get him a boyfriend. Maybe he should download the game again, he can play it while cuddling his brand-new boyfriend.
