Work Text:
“Five, four, three, two, one! Happy New Year!”
As shouts and cheers rang out on the Port Charles waterfront to usher in 2024, Spencer gently turned Trina around to face him and placed one finger under her chin to tip her face up toward his.
“Happy New Year, Trina,” he whispered, leaning down to kiss her softly as fireworks lit up the night sky above them.
When he pulled away, she blinked several times and looked up at him, her eyes dark with desire.
“Happy New Year, Spencer,” she murmured as she slid her hands up his chest to loop them over his shoulders. He heeded her unspoken request and kissed her again, this time longer and more urgently, and she pressed closer against him eagerly, running her hands through his hair and caressing his neck. The world around them faded away, and both of them were unaware of the crowd on the pier, the music from the New Year’s celebration, or anything else but each other.
The need for oxygen eventually forced them to break apart, but they stayed close, with Spencer’s hands resting on Trina’s hips and her fingers still tangled in his hair. After a moment, Trina regained her breath enough to say, “Finally!”
“What do you mean, finally?” Spencer asked, still a little breathless himself.
“I wanted you to kiss me like that last year at Britt’s party,” Trina answered. “But you made me wait a whole year!”
“I’m pretty sure I didn’t make you wait a year,” he protested. “I’ve kissed you plenty of times since then, although I’m always happy to kiss you some more.”
“But not under the stars at midnight on New Year’s Eve,” she said. “You have no idea how badly I wanted you to kiss me when we were on the deck of the Haunted Star.”
“I was going to, but we got interrupted. Believe me, I wanted it as much as you did, if not more.”
“Well, there’s no one around to stop us now,” Trina pointed out, unaware that the same interloper who had interrupted them last year was lurking in the shadows with a snarl on her face and her fists clenched tightly at her sides as she watched them.
“Is that so?” Spencer said teasingly, reaching up to caress Trina’s cheek.
“Yes, that’s so. Aren’t you going to do something about it?” she asked, matching his lighthearted tone.
He leaned down and watched, enthralled, as her eyelashes fluttered in anticipation as he drew nearer.
“Like this?” he asked, pressing his lips to her left cheek.
“Or this?” A kiss on her right cheek.
“Or maybe this?” A kiss on her nose.
“Or how about this?” he whispered huskily as he finally pressed his lips to hers. Trina moaned in response and tightened her grip on his neck, and just like that, they got lost in each other once again.
When they finally came up for air, Trina sighed and looked at him pleadingly. “Spencer? Will you take me home now?”
“What’s wrong? Are you cold?” he asked, rubbing his hands up and down her back in an attempt to warm her.
“No.” Then an icy gust of wind caused her to shiver. “Well, maybe a little bit, but that’s not why I want to go home.”
She looked up at him seductively. “I’m ready for you to help me take off this dress, and I thought you might want to slip into something more comfortable, too.”
Spencer grinned. “I’m always happy to help you out of your clothes, Trina, but I don’t have anything to change into at your dorm.”
“I wasn’t talking about you changing clothes,” she said with a teasing smile that showed the dimple in her cheek. “My bed is pretty comfortable, isn’t it?”
His grin grew wider. “Yes, it is. As long as you’re planning to join me in it, of course.”
She nodded. “The fireworks here were nice, but I like our own private brand of fireworks better. I think we should get back to that.”
“The fireworks we make together are definitely the best,” Spencer agreed as he wrapped an arm around her and they started walking toward his car. “Come on, Trina, let’s go home and get you warmed up.”
Trina smiled and leaned into his side. Last year had been a difficult one, but this year was starting off right. She was in a committed relationship with the man she loved, and they were going to Paris soon! And tonight, Spencer was taking her home to make love to her—the perfect way to ring in 2024. Surely that was a good sign for the upcoming year, she thought.
On the edge of the crowd, just out of Spencer and Trina’s line of sight, Esme Prince watched with jealous eyes as the happy couple walked by. After seeing their disgusting display of PDA, she was sure they were headed off somewhere to celebrate the new year with sex and she wanted nothing more than to stop them, but what could she do? Nothing she said would prevent them from leaving together, and if she tried to intervene, they might notice that something was off about her and suspect she had regained her memories. No, she had to act like her normal amnesiac self for the time being, until she could formulate a plan. Somehow, she would figure out a way to force Trina out of the picture and claim Spencer for herself, but right now, all she could do was bide her time.

Back at Trina’s dorm, Spencer closed the door behind them and watched hungrily as his girlfriend turned around, holding her hair out of the way so he could unzip her dress. He eagerly obliged, nuzzling her neck as he slid the zipper down and pushed the straps off her shoulders, sending the dress to the floor.
“Your dress is beautiful, but you look even more beautiful without it,” he whispered as he kissed her shoulder.
Trina turned around and pulled his jacket off of him before she hurriedly loosened his tie and began unfastening the buttons on his shirt.
“Flattery will get you everywhere, Mr. Cassadine,” she said, pulling his shirt off and reaching for his belt.
“Is that right, Miss Robinson?” he asked teasingly as he scooped her up in his arms and dropped her on the bed. She stretched out on her side, admiring the view as he finished undressing and joined her in bed.
“I’m cold. Didn’t you offer to warm me up?” she asked.
“Yes, ma’am,” he answered, taking her in his arms and kissing her passionately.
After a moment, he pulled away and looked intently into her eyes. “I love you, Trina,” he said softly. “So very much.”
“I love you, too, Spencer. More than words can say.” Trina placed a gentle hand on his face, caressing his jaw softly as she whispered, “Let me show you how much.”
When he leaned down to press his lips to hers again, she felt a thrill of exhilaration.
This is heaven. All I want for the rest of my life is for us to be together like this.
That was Trina’s last coherent thought before she was overwhelmed with sensations. All she could see, hear, and feel was Spencer—his eyes dark with passion, his moans echoing in her ear, his hands and lips and body bringing her to bliss.
Afterward, Trina curled up against him and sighed. “Definitely better than the fireworks at the pier.”
“Yeah?” Spencer asked, gently rubbing her back, as he often did when they were in bed together.
“Yeah. Don’t you think so?” She lifted her head from his chest to look at him directly.
“Of course I do. You’re incredible!”
She smiled at him. “You’re not so bad yourself.”
“Not so bad?” Spencer pouted. “What do you mean, not so bad? You seemed pretty happy with me a few minutes ago.”
Trina giggled. “You know I’m only teasing. I think you’re amazing. You had me seeing stars just now!”
“Seeing stars, huh? That’s more like it!” Smiling, he put his hand on her neck and gently tilted her face to kiss him, and she responded eagerly, slipping her own hand up to caress his neck as the kiss deepened.
Finally, Trina reluctantly broke away to catch her breath. Sighing again, she rested her head on Spencer’s chest and took his hand, lacing their fingers together.
“Sometimes I wish we could stay like this forever, just you and me, with no one around to interrupt us,” she murmured. “But I’m glad we went to see the fireworks earlier. It was kind of a full-circle moment after we watched them together last year. Did you imagine back then that we’d be here now?”
“What I imagined and what I expected are two very different things,” he said. “Did I imagine being with you like this? Sure, I hoped for it, but I didn’t really expect it to become reality. I didn’t know if you would ever love me, but I was just happy you wanted to be friends again. And never in my wildest dreams did I think we’d be going to Paris together. What about you? Did you imagine we’d be here now?”
Trina snuggled closer to him. “Actually, yes. I knew even then that I had very strong feelings for you, although I wasn’t ready to act on them. I was afraid of getting hurt again, but I wanted to be in a relationship with you and I was pretty sure you wanted it, too. And I think I knew deep down that eventually I’d find the courage to let you know how I felt. I went home after last New Year’s Eve and dreamed that you really did kiss me, and I was so disappointed when I woke up.”
“So you dreamed about me, did you?” Spencer smiled. “I dreamed about you all the time. I’m glad I wasn’t alone in that.”
“I couldn’t get you out of my head, no matter how hard I tried,” she confessed. “So yes, I imagined being with you like this, but reality has turned out even better than I imagined.”
She craned her neck to kiss him again. “You make me happier than I’ve ever been, Spencer. I hope you know that.”
“I do,” he answered. “I feel the exact same way about you.”
“We’ve been through a lot together in the past year, haven’t we?” Trina mused. “First kiss, first date, first romantic getaway together …”
“First time,” he interjected.
She laughed. “Yes, our first time. There’s no way I’d forget that! But we had some crazy things happen, too, like being kidnapped by your uncle. I sure didn’t have a trip to Greenland on my bingo card.”
“I didn’t expect to be diving off a boat that got bombed by the WSB!” Spencer said. “And that wasn’t the only wild thing that happened last year. I got a surprise baby brother, and my father disappeared.”
“And I found out my dad wasn’t my biological father, and then my actual biological father got shot,” Trina added. “Let’s hope 2024 isn’t quite so eventful.”
“I wonder what this year will bring,” Spencer said. “Besides Paris, of course.”
“Oh, I’m so excited about Paris! I can’t wait to get there, now that I know you’ll be with me.”
“It’s going to be amazing,” he agreed. “I’m looking forward to showing you all my favorite places, and then we can explore the city and find some new favorite places together.”
“Paris is going to be such a wonderful adventure for us.” She shifted to look at him. “But are you sure you can leave Ace for so long?”
“Ace will be fine. I’ll make a few weekend trips back to visit, assuming his mother lets me see him, but it’s time to focus on us, Trina. Our relationship is my top priority, and I think this semester abroad is going to be really good for us.”
“I think so, too. I just don’t want you to regret going away with me and leaving him.”
“Trina, I could never regret that,” Spencer said, bringing her hand to his lips for a kiss. “There’s nowhere in the world that I would rather be than right by your side, whether that means going to France with you, or watching fireworks on the pier in Port Charles, or anything else.”
She smiled. “You and those fireworks again! Is that going to be a tradition for us? Ringing in the new year by watching the fireworks on the waterfront?”
“It sounds good to me,” he answered. “I don’t have a lot of holiday traditions, but that would be a good one to start.”
“Well, we’re already on our way,” she said. “We’ve done it two years in a row now.”
“Can we also have a tradition of coming home and making fireworks of our own afterward?” Spencer asked as he rolled over, leaning Trina back against the pillows and trailing kisses along her cheek.
“Yes,” she said softly, moaning when he moved to her neck and found the sensitive spot below her ear. Running her fingers through his hair, she asked, “Are we starting that tradition right now?”
“Yes. Any objections?”
“No objections here,” Trina answered breathlessly. “I think I’m going to love this tradition.”
Spencer raised his head to look at her, and she felt a thrill at the unabashed desire in his gaze.
“I’m going to make sure you love it,” he vowed before he did just that, focusing all of his attention on bringing her to ecstasy as she returned the favor.
Indeed, ringing in the new year in bed proved to be one of their favorite traditions for the rest of their long, happy life together, and both of them always looked back fondly on the memorable night when they started 2024 off with a bang.
