Just for the night

Summary:

Kaito's first night staying over at the photo studio.

Work Text:

“Kaito, you’re staying here for the night,” Natsumi tugged Kaito over by the ear to the couch.

“Geez, is that anyway to treat someone injured?” Kaito griped lightheartedly. “Apparently badly enough that I can’t take care of myself.”

“Let us have some peace of mind, will you?” Yusuke said. Kaito sighed and settled on the couch, grabbing the plush turtle that was laying on it and holding it to his chest.

“I can’t believe you’re holding me captive here,” he huffed. “Some heroes you are.”

Kaito truly was not that badly injured, not any worse for wear than the average fight left him. He certainly didn’t look worse than Tsukasa, who was sitting at the table, fiddling with his camera.

“Being a rider doesn’t make someone a hero,” Tsukasa pulled up his camera and snapped a picture of Kaito. “You should know that, sneak thief.”

“Knock that off, Tsukasa,” Natsumi said, moving past him to bring blankets to Kaito. Kaito smiled past her at Tsukasa, receiving a grunt in return. “Here you go. I’m sorry you’re stuck on the couch right now, we’ll get a futon for you in the future.”

“No need to make space for me,” Kaito said, performatively snuggling into his blanket. Natsumi frowned at him. “I’m fine here.”

“We want there to be a space for you here, you know,” Natsumi said.

“Well, if I get really uncomfortable I’ll just crawl into bed with Tsukasa. That’s fine, right?” Tsukasa rolled his eyes at Kaito’s comment.

“No way. I bet you steal blankets too,” he said.

“You know that isn’t true,” Kaito purred back. Tsukasa huffed and turned away.

“Enough of that,” Yusuke scolded, bringing over a first aid kit. “Let me take a look at you.”

Kaito responded obediently enough, allowing Yusuke to poke at him, checking for cuts and bruises. He watched Yusuke just as closely as Yusuke was checking him.

“Do you guys do this after every fight?” he asked, making a face as Yusuke touched a tender spot under his shirt. Maybe he was a bit more injured than he thought.

“Not after every fight,” Natsumi said, doing a similar check on Tsukasa. “Mostly ones where they’re particularly stupid. Yusuke doesn’t need it as much, his self healing abilities are pretty good.”

“Makes sense. Well, you don’t need to worry about me. I don’t fight stupid.” Natsumi snorted.

“Hiding behind other riders isn’t going to make me not worry about you,” she said. “Now be quiet and let Yusuke take care of you.”

Kaito obeyed for once, quietly sitting and watching the others. Yusuke’s touch was gentle and apologetic as he prodded beneath Kaito’s clothing, checking for wounds and applied bandages where needed. Natsumi did not seem to be giving Tsukasa the same grace, efficient and experienced with tending to Tsukasa’s body. Tsukasa looked off, bored, until he caught Kaito staring and smirked at him.

“You should be all good now!” Yusuke said, pulling away from Kaito. He smiled up at him, that bright Kamen Rider Kuuga smile Kaito had to look away from. “Let’s all get some rest now, okay?”

“I am leaving in the morning, you guys know,” Kaito said. Tsukasa rolled his eyes.

“After you make us breakfast,” was all he said.

Kaito sighed, watching them say their goodnights to each other and head to their respective rooms. He made himself comfortable on the couch and planned what he would make for them in the morning.
